Anything that results in fewer hunters is a positive for WoW as a whole.
Turrets are not totems. For starters the totem system only allows one totem of a type to be place on the ground at a time. For example you could only place one searing totem on the ground at a time, and searing totem was the only fire totem allowed at a time. In addition, totems were always placed at your feet. Blizzard offered the talent Totemic Projection in order to launch a totem to a specific location, however that was removed.
A turret system is more than likely just one type of turret that can be upgraded by abilities or talents. In addition, you can launch the turret to a set location, and you can have more than one turret up at once. For example, let’s say you use Rock-It-Turret. You can place 2 turrets that automatically fire at an enemy. You can have a cooldown that transforms your turret into a multi-shot turret that can hit multiple targets for a few seconds, or you can upgrade your turret to fire at a target and slow their movement speed. You can even detonate your turret causing a small explosion that can damage a nearby enemy. When your turret expires it can leave scrap which you can collect and give you some sort of benefit.
Again, nothing like the totem system.
A beam weapon is like a laser cannon. That’s nothing like an arrow. It is an AoE blast in a straight line, and if it has any similarity to an ability it would be the Eye Beam from the Demon Hunter.
Piloting a mech would more than likely be similar mechanically to Druid forms, where you will gain an armor buff, and get a new set of abilities unavailable to you when you are outside of your mech. We know this because Robo-Goblin in WC3 operated exactly like Bear Form and Crow Form.
So yeah, its nothing like ascendance either.
People want Tinker because it’s something actually new and different than what we currently have in the class lineup. We didn’t even get to the part where Tinkers could potentially be the first mana-less healing spec.
Depends on how you set them up.
If a Tinker as example would have one Spec where he is Riding a Robot(Tank Spec, just like Mekkatorque or Gallywix ) that doesn’t take from Hunter, then the “Pets” could be more like Warlock or DK that have … predefined Pets(so no taming involved) … also who said they have to be Ranged … of course they could use a Gun … but they could also be using Melee Weapons they charge with Energy.
Indeed. Plus, they are an essential part of the setting that’s still not playable, and could increase importance and representation of many races that currently are mostly ignored by players.
The Tinkerer Lobby is going to burn your childhood home to the ground for this one, but yes. They strike me as a group that doesn’t care about the consequences they want their emotionally pleasurable class all over their log-in screen and if that screws people, oh well.

Tinker would play similar to Swtor Bounty hunter or Warhammer online dwarf engineer or Wildstar Engineer.
Tinkering is definitely more than an aesthetic.
Other MMOs aren’t as good.
You use traps, venom and primitive grenades.
Tinkers would have ray guns, bombs and all sorts of gadgetry that used to exist before Blizzard’s crusade against engi being good.
Not comparable, only problem is you might have to share gun drops.
And I think you can live with the competition.

Is the point. Other MMOs are doing gimmicky crap (like Pandas) to get players. They should not export their policy to top-tier MMOs.

You’re trying to dismiss something that’s been in warcraft since it’s rts/rpg days…
They can have our bombs and garbage explosive shot. Replace them with kill shot and snake trap and we’ll call it even.
It would make sense if the Turrets would also be placed at the feet of the caster … like Torbjörn in Overwatch.
Overall if they add Turrets that do stuff like Heal … or anything else then shooting … they just like Totems.
Also, the Firebolt Totem back then did prefer a target of your Flame Shock … so adding a Turret that fires at Random Targets … or one you can direct is still like Totems.
As i said … Turrets are* like Totems.

I see them cannibalizing team fortress before hunters.
Tinkers need a healing class with channeled heals/buffs like Medic, a DPS class that builds turrets like Engineer, and maybe a tank class that pilots a mech.
None of those would need to take anything from hunters.
Explosive trap is a trap with a bomb inside.
