Tinker/Machinespeaker Class (MEGATHREAD) - Now is the time!

An entire corps of mechanical engineers is not going to be formed and trained for the purpose of removing a giant sword from the ground. Every scenario the tinker cult comes up with is a massive reach:

  • “The Alliance and Horde need tinkers to support the war effort in Kul Tiras and Zandalar” (both did just fine without them)
  • “We need tinkers to open the way to the Shadowlands” (we got there without them)
  • “We need tinkers to get us to the Dragon Isles” (see above)
  • “Tinkers would be useful against the Void, for reasons” (our characters’ plot armor lets them resist the Void just fine)

I could see Tinkers being made into a kind of ‘shield tank’ as it were, where their primary hardness comes from various abilities that grant shields instead of raw mitigation. Like if a Disc Priest had tanking tools instead of its usual fare. The whole ‘mech suit’ thing isn’t going to work out except as maybe an effect on certain moves though, like the Paladin horde. Tauren Tinkers in mech armor would be so ludicrously large as to be a joke. Probably work fine as a mount, though.

Then the various specs can use portions of the shield as a kind of generated resource, spending it to power certain abilities as need demand. So the balance would be keeping your shields high enough to survive while being able to liquidate enough to hit your next button.

I agree.

I honestly think if Tinkers became a thing, it would be relegated to the tiny races that have tinkering type of background.

Races like…

Alliance

  • Gnomes
  • Mechagnomes

Horde

  • Goblin
  • Vulpera

Maybe toss in dwarfs but that’s pushing it imo.

As far as shielding goes, honestly makes the most sense to borrow what was introduced MoP in the blue energy shields that make the target immune to attacks.

It both looks cool and no other class uses that tech so it’s a unique way to bring it into class abilities.

That’s more a ‘they shouldn’t have mech suits’ than ‘Tauren shouldn’t be Tinkers.’ Thunder Bluff has green energy (windmills), terrain traversal (elevators) and advanced bridge construction to support Tauren weight. Engineering, and thus Tinkering, is as much a Tauren discipline as anyone else.

I went with shields as their tanking focus because it’s the most typical way for ‘tech’ to tank.

I’d be alot more hyped if they did announce a new tinker class. Just an AR dwarf race? Seriously? Who the hell cares about yet another silly AR of a base race that already has an AR? Nobody that’s who. ARs are the biggest scam. They’re almost all just a stupid excuse to seperate out additional customisations for a race you already play. You’re literally playing to unlock new hair styles for the race you’re already playing. SMH.

Reading your title…hmm…no, it’s really not.

Make that ogre a gronn (or, alternately: something that makes Necrolord a worthwhile covenant for anyone who actually does Shadowlands content), and we’ve got a deal.

Your referring to my meat shield ability idea?

Essentially the inspiration for that comes from the Alchemist Hero from Warcraft III as it was a goblin alchemist riding on top of an ogre and as such was silly and interesting.

But I get your point from a coolness perspective as Gronns look edgy and intimidating.

Oh, gotcha (I played Orcs & Humans, but never got much access to the other RTS games). It was more about gronn…yeah, looking cool, and already being an in-game cross-faction designated mount-flunky (and they’d probably retcon the ogre into a hobgoblin, which is less cool, anyway).

As for the rest: it was mostly kind of a snide remark about Shadowlands content not being particularly worthwhile (same route every time), and Necrolord being the least versatile covenant.

I’ll never understand the “engineering is a profession already” crowd. Like damn just say you lack imagination and call it a day :skull: same logic as “Demon Hunter can’t exist, we already have warlocks”, and “Mages can’t exist, we already have the Enchanting profession” lmao

  • The literal planet is a machine, and we just got a presentation talking about how important an entire sub-sect of the Earthen are who dedicate themselves to machinery and mechanics to a zealous extent.
  • The forces of Azeroth also got a rude awakening when Draenor suddenly overwhelmed them with an onslaught of machines- that same force got the most formidable Draenei Exarch killed.
  • The great campaigns of War against both Alliance and Horde, and against the Legion have all been immensely aided by machines of war.

As mentioned before, the only difference would be that “now we can actually play as them”. They clearly exist, and clearly play a large part in the world, so I’m not sure what the pushback here is for? Are you holding out for some other class and are worried that Tinker would “push it back” or something?

🫱🏾‍🫲🏻 You’ve got yourself a deal, mister. We’re the new-age Demon Hunter requesters (except we’ve been yapping about this class since 2010) :smiling_face_with_tear:

If I alone had the power to do this for you sir….you would have it

If not spamming my insane fan-fic steam-punk obsessed bizarre class addition requests means I lack imagination… then so be it.

I don’t want this, or any variation of this at all. In fact, it would almost guarantee an instant unsubscribe from me.

No thank you. No thank you at all.

Lmfao I couldn’t possibly understand how or why one would want to harbour that kind of blind negativity and pessimism towards an idea.

Quitting over a class that you wouldn’t have to play? There are already hundreds of NPCs in the game. It already exists. It just isn’t directly playable (yet).

Blizz trembling rn

So’s alchemy, but that didn’t stop them from making Monks.

And Hunters already have some bombs/grenades in Survival spec.

They could do what they did with Warlocks and Demon Hunters- take some stuff from one class (Metamorphosis was taken from locks and given to DHs), fully flesh it out, and bam, new class.

They’d just need to take Wildfire Bomb from Hunter, and give Tinkers a lot of their own abilties.

I’m way more interested in playing a Tinker than any lame “Evoker” (it’s just another mage) or whatever.

Because you’re one of a hundred thousand people regurgitating their personalized fan-fic of what they want something to be, in a public manner, and receiving scrutiny for it… I’m “harboring blind negativity” ? Nope. Just don’t like your fan-fic essay. At all.

It would be a class that exists inside the game that I participate in. Even if I don’t play it, it would still be subject to my gaming experience…? Are you that short-sighted, or was this deliberately obtuse?

Also, doesn’t exist, wont exist, never will exist. Maybe get some variation of Necromancer in the future, but your “I LUV STEEM PUNK GEMME TURRETS XD” - never.

Why? Are you going to make another 15 paragraph fan-fic class post? Frankly, that’s the scariest thing here.

Somehow it’s always “the time” for tinkers and yet it never happens! :astonished: Amazing! I mean, mechagnomes were obviously the time for tinkers, and the Dragonscale Expedition was the time for tinkers. And this is clearly the time for tinkers. And yet… no tinkers.

Almost… and this is crazy, right? But almost like Blizz isn’t interested in tinkers.
