Tinker Class

If they don’t add a new class in the next x-pack it’s going to launch with a huge handicap. New classes are a huge draw to get players to come back and now that we have had 4 bad xpacks in a row, they need any kind of boost they can get

Discussion around new classes is always generally a bit toxic or unfun, balance, class fantasies and people’s personal wants all clash.

And then there’s you know, the general gatekeeping on what you can and cannot ask for.

They have the necessary resources for balance. It’s not a manpower issue. They could task/hire the resources needed whenever they want. It’s an apathy issue.

The ActiBlizz of pre-Microsoft would fire QA teams to the point where the devs couln’t even get full mythic raid teams together to do raid testing. That’s a company philosophy problem where QA testing and balance are de-prioritized. If you’re going to stand there and argue that their failure to fix those internal issues means that we have to lower our expectations for this game, then all you’re doing is toeing the company line. It’s also remarkably anti-consumer.

FOUR!?!

Feels like “Legion is a bad expansion” is a super unpopular take around here.

Yes, Legion is the most popular in the string of bad expansions.

But everything that people complain about on the forums was as bad in Legion as it is now. It was just new then

7.0-7.2 was trash. They managed to put something workable together for 7.3

I’ve never eaten snails before, but I’m pretty sure the day I bite into one I won’t find it to be delicious just because it’s a new experience.

I’m not saying that it’s fair, I’m saying that it’s the reality we live in. I’m a pessimist, I don’t believe for a second that these issues will get fixed anytime soon unless we stopped paying and demanded better balance (which is not going to happen believe me)

If you’re going to base the game on how much people complain we might as well say the game has been trash since 2004

I’m sure you’re right and everyone’s complaints about borrowed power, RNG locked critical gear, and endless grinds were unfounded.

Obviously Blizz agrees since they double down on them for 3 xpacks now

That’s a point in my favor, though.

If you genuinely believe the company culture is so bad that they will never prioritize balancing classes, and you believe the current meta is so unbalanced that it serves as evidence of this, then how is the game made demonstrably worse for us, the players, if a new class is added?

Seems like balance is going to be bad either way. May as well get a breath of fresh air with a completely new playstyle if we’re going to be riding on this trainwreck together.

Concepts =/= implementation. Legion Artifacts definitely did not feel as restrictive as BFA Azerite powers.

My only real question is how is the class fantasy going to feel when your super awesome mega-tech-gundam-battle armor gets beat in pvp by an orc in a yeti onesie with a sharp stick?

About the same way it feels when masters of the arcane, conduits of elemental power, and manipulators of time itself are bludgeoned to death by people whose entire class is designed around being able to hit good.

Because it can always get even worse lol. It isn’t like there is a cap on how bad balance can really get. I’d rather have bad balance then really bad balance you feel me?

So bad. Gotcha.

we already have people that can shoot lazer beams from their eyes, burst into giant explosions and cast fel bolts while flying in the air get rolled by gnome warrior beating up your shins.

Hello to you too!

I like your ideas for a Tinker “meta form” (steam punk mechasuit), but the main thing should be guns, explosives, bombs, and little robo gadgets, like “sentry turrets” that fire at the enemy.

You ever been kicked square in the shin? It freakin hurts, man.

I disagree. I definitely think there is a cap on how bad it can get.

Massive disparities in player power will cause sub losses. If one class starts doing 20% more damage than any other class in the game, that’s a hill that can’t always be covered by player skill alone.

There is a dev incentive in an MMO to at least do a modicum of balance work. How much that balance is prioritized is the question.

Nobody seems to bat an eye when a warrior beats a mage. Sometimes you just gotta not care about lore implications all that much.

I think you just summed up Blizzard’s entire design philosophy.

True but, to be fair, we’ve known this for years. They’ve been pretty up-front about their adherence to the “rule of cool.”

Sylvanas, Kel’thuzad, and Mal’ganis all working together on the same faction? To hell with the lore! That looks cool, make it happen!!!

that sounds awful to me. i don’t want to see a bunch of people riding around in mechs.

Can’t argue with that.
