Time walking Holiday Loot not worth it

Yes, the “regular” raids of old, which barely anyone did.

Yes, there have always been alternate pieces of gear. And we still have those exact same things, sans Valor. But we do have Titan Residuum, which accounts for the 3 most powerful pieces of gear you can get.

And yet, people who aren’t doing content that actually drops that ilvl aren’t running around in full sets. Because what they have access to is limited. And should stay limited, instead of being expanded.

Kinda like Valor was limited, and took months to gear through if you weren’t doing anything but currency farming.

I… never said Mythic+ was a problem because it’s ilvl matched or surpassed Heroic Raiding. Mythic+15 is fairly hard. I have 0 issues with it dropping 5 ilvl higher than Heroic Raiding.

The issue is that you can spam it all day every day for as long as you personally have time, and have your chance at that reward EVERY time. That’s the issue. Because NO other content in the game that rewards ilvl worth mentioning is as unrestricted as that. Even Mythic 0, which only matches LFR, has a lockout to prevent spamming it.

My argument is that every form of supposedly equivalent content should be equally rewarding. Mythic+ never stops being rewarding, whereas other content does. That’s a problem regardless of your opinions of raids vs dungeons.

my rouge alt loves it. I wish there was more catch up stuff so i could play my other 4 alts but all i can do is this shaman and my poor rouge. Don’t take this from me.

this is soo true, with titanforging and warforging gone. Blizzard needs to consider better loot options from time walking and conquest caps. 445s and 460s are just to low compared to grinding other options

Doing a 15 key nets you BETTER than heroic rewards.

You do a 12 for heroic rewards, and a 12 (and even 15) is piss easy.

I haven’t done a single piece of group content on some of my characters and they’re over normal and close to heroic ilvl, that really shouldn’t be a thing. You should at least have to do M+ to get that ilvl.

Oh okay, I only skimmed the M+ section and might have jumped too soon. I agree that M+ should have a lock on amount of loot you can get per week. It does though, for the highest tier gear, so thats semi acceptable.

The extremely random nature of M+ combats that some. You can target a Raid boss and only do that one, or redo that one and roll again with a coin. With M+ the nature of the drops could be a repeat, or a very bad piece. It kind of balances.

they should add 500 timewalking badges to the weekend event quest instead of azerite

“Haven’t done a single piece of group content”

Yes thats a problem.

Gearing up to a herioc ilvl, slowly, with “Easier” group content should likely remain a thing though.

I brought this up above. With the valor comment. Now this was countered with every slot not being obtainable, BUT thats not really true.

The last of fond memory for me of valor gear, was DS tier, as that was when I leveled my first Alt that I tried to actually gear and play.

Between the Mixture of, Valor Gear, BOEs, and Crafted Gear pieces (which as a tailor, that raided DS I made BANK off of, thats how I bought BOEs lol) I had every slot, but Weapon, of which I got a carry to the boss for the Steps of Time to get thag on my new Alt priest, that I ended up hating and not playing again till next expac where it sits still today, always being max leveled and never played lol.

Point is, back then Every slot was fillable, outside of Weapon, with a Normal or Above. In the case of BOEs and Crafteds Herioc tier. Not only that, but they even shared a similar appearance with a diffrent color variation.

My priest was wearing (still is but the newer Blue LFR for Lock, themed) the alt color version of my Faceless shroud that my main had.

Granted they didn’t include a set bonus. However personally am all for set bonus and PVP power/resins return.

And that was Normal Gear for Valor if memory serves, and the Crafted and BoEs (crafted requiring raid mats, essence of destruction I want to say) to get the Herioc Gears.

So that equivelent today would be Mythic Gear in alot of slots bought with gold, crafting.

As AFAIK, and as I fell out of the hard core raiding seen in Mists, Herioc is Mythic, a symptom of casualifying the game, by adding 2 easier modes below and bumping the old 2 up.

Which can further be seen in Mogushan Vaults, with the first AOTC and Cutting Edge, where the later was for Herioc.

Doing 4 mythics week gives heroic and is faster to complete. Normal isnt enough to do 5 of these for me.

Gearing matters below the Mythic Raid equivalent too though. So few people play at that level that only balancing content vs other content at that level is nearly pointless.

I feel like farming base level drops vs raid drops is… comparable enough. A dungeon is gonna have, like, maybe 7-8 pieces per spec in total? Vs a raid having like 3-5? So yeah the raid is a bit more targeted, but it’s nothing too crazy.

And as before, the endlessly rewarding nature of M+ kind of counters any slight disadvantage it has for getting a specific drop. I can run a raid boss once a week. 3 times total per week if I use coins (for one boss, not as many bosses as I want per week). Meanwhile I spammed Shrine of the Storms 17 times in 1 week to get my trinket back in 8.1. Because the current (flawed) design allows it.

Like, if it’s slow enough, I guess I’m okay with this. I think Cata-era JP/VP vendors were a little too generous (I had like 7 equally geared characters in a short timespan because it was stupid easy to catch up to par), but I guess there’s precedent for it at least.

Personally, I liked the version of Valor Points that were used to upgrade existing gear more than I liked the vendor. Incentivizes doing higher content in the first place a lot more.

I’d even be okay with VP ilvl upgrades stopping at a certain point (either Heroic or Mythic level) rather than being a # of upgrades you can do full stop, so that people with lower gear would eventually get to play with that higher level of gear. But it’d take a lot longer if they’re starting from bare minimum.

That’s probably how I’d want it handled in a hypothetical world where we bring back that sort of currency grind.

Most bosses have 2 it seems per spec, a few have up to 4.

I don’t understand what the issue is here, you’re getting an equivalent reward for the content you’re doing which is guaranteed.

It has been a long time since timewalking has felt worth the time investment.

It is only really useful for leveling now.

Otherwise I would just avoid it - much better (more efficient) alternatives for gearing.

Equivalent to what?

How do you judge equivalent exactly? Time invested? Skill required? Where?

I will say this, pugging a TW Manatombs is harder than pugging any boss on Herioc in the tier.

So no the rewards really aren’t equivalent. Part of the big issue with the Time Walking is likely that higher end players don’t do it.

Time walking is a major time sink. You get a herioc piece for Mythics which include +s that you would be doing anyway.

I think honestly both should scale start as normal chest, and become herioc after x boss kills, like they use to.

I mean, that’s a flat out lie, TW is super freaking easy.

I appreciate blizurd making this a normal loot since that saves me from having to do 5 time-walkings.

Ya the dungeon is easy, when done correctly.

The problem is the people.

Which applies the exact same to Herioc Nya.

You also cannot ever outgear TW. Mythics are easier than TW, I can solo those and yet they give a 460 cache.

Same with BT dropping 445, BT is MUCH harder than Nya (at least it was when I did it, but its been awhile) with again no ability to outgear. Sure you can out on effect gear, legion legendaries ect. But 95% of the people you get grouped with won’t.

Eh in like 5 hours time completely by myself I went from heirloom gear to item level 420.

I agree that getting friends to carry you in M0 is faster or joining a pug where they are carrying their friend is most optimal. However this is amazingly fast to get from heirloom gear to a point where you don’t need to be carried to get gear by yourself.

I mean, I’ve done about 25-30 time walkings, solo, this week and not a single one has had issues beyond overpulling (like 4-5 groups, you can easily do 3 groups)

And every single one of them had leveling people in them. Lot of healers leveling right now honestly.

TBC tw isnt the issue I’m worried about WoD tw they “changed it” after the last time it was live.

As for the loot well what else can you expect at this point… emissary rewards so far nothing but AP, azerite and 0 freaking weapons… at least on the alliance.

Well, you have had a tough go at it.

In the last week Horde has had a Weapon Box, A Turtle Trink/Ring Box, an Azerite Box and yesterday a global box (honorbound)

I actually got an upgrade from the honorobound box this AM. That reminded me that TF is still kind of a thing. What adds insult to injury, is I was helped my buddy that I brought to retail they are of the ilvl where they needed that box. They didn’t get an upgrade, and I did.

I had 460 bracers, I got 445 bracers. However the bracers were better stated, socketed and have leech. The socket according to the loose calc is worth 25 ilvls for me, so that is a good upgrade all in.

Which is actually something I forget after being in classic and the retail community drills in. Ilvl is not everything, optimization is worth more. So I am going to do my TW tonight as a Socketed Dres trink, or Nzoth ring might be worth it.
