I misunderstood I think
He’s not trolling. Are you talking about the tier set bonuses or the appearances though?
Bonuses. Maybe I misunderstood! Apologies. Just when people say tier sets I think of the bonuses, I’d expect people to say transmog for the appearances.
If it’s the appearances we’re talking about, then yeah they’ve always been mostly raid-themed with a little bit of class flair so nothing has changed.
I know I was talking about the appearances, maybe I’m the one who is having a different conversation completely. I agree on the transmog comment. The tier bonuses will always have to be based off the class abilities. Sometimes they add some raid themed flair to those too. I particularly remember the Firelands tier having fiery set bonuses.
I actually just reread your post and realized you were probably talking about the actual tier set effects
The Paladin set being a robot-owl is kinda weird. But the hilarious part is the boots. If you want a good laugh, check out the absolute clown shoes that are the Paladin set boots.
I’m scared to even look at what they’ll turn into on these hooves
You might be lucky, and they’ll cut off the oversized shoe portion.
Tier 1 through 3 had nothing to do with the raid aesthetic. Tier 4 and 5 was just based on concept art - justicars and crystalforge were a Draenei thing for example. Tier 6 also had nothing to do with the raids and were just class themed sets like Lightbringer.
Most of the armor sets weren’t based around how the raid looks until BFA.
A lot of the tier sets from WotLK were clearly raid-themed. The warlock set from ICC is an outfit worn by some random non-warlock caster mob that I remember seeing in one of the ICC 5-man dungeons. The rogue set from ICC just makes you look like a geist
Tier designed for the raid was introduced in everyones favorite expansion WotLK
.
Also I think some of the tier sets from Antorus totally look like they were designed for BfA and they just decided to use it for Legion for some reason. The shaman tier set from that looks troll themed, which is probably why the mythic version of the helm has the same color scheme as the Zandalari troll heritage armor (and probably also why you can see mobs from De Other Side wearing some version of it). The kinda random pirate aesthetic from the rogue tier set makes more sense for a Kul Tiran-themed set.
The cloth tier set looks like literal dogwater.
It’s so bad and amateurish wow.
Wotlk had some very iconic sets. But for me vanilla-BC had some of the best. But maybe I’m just a salty boomer.
i actually love all of them. it’s been a long time since i’ve worn paladin tier that i liked and liked the helmet enough to wear it
i think the last paladin tier that i actively wanted to get pieces for because it looked good to me was the WoD highmaul/blackrock foundry one
some classes ill never play, but the few alts i have i hope to get a couple of the tier colours before next expansion
I feel like legion had some good paladin sets! Like the class hall armor and temple of sargeras
That… i cant even tell what class is which.
i dislike the legion chunky boots and pants, so a lot of the legion sets i wasn’t a fan of
the tomb of sargeras boots and gauntlets are just way too oversized. the shoulders are great though
class hall was fantastic though for sure
How many times can you realistically reinvent a typical Warlock look? Or any class?
That being said even though I like the overall quality of the Warlock set, I feel it kinda looks like Paladin judgement tier 2.
Rogue is the best one IMO
Druid, shaman and hunter got did in dirty though.
Agreed. And thematically it just doesn’t fit some classes. Like why would a dk or warlock or shadow priest wear that bright shiny stuff lol, obviously some players who play those classes might like these sets but it just doesn’t fit the class theme for me
