Yeah, I do think I would go oom on Everbloom last boss but I am avoiding that one until I get better gear after how bad it was last week. Since this season seems easier than last I might eventually try 21-22 or something if I’m bored, but just focusing on getting as many 20s as I can right now.
That is disappointing to learn but thank you for sharing it. I felt that my holy mana was good in low keys but I see in Nax’s logs that there is a lot more need for healing as opposed to spending almost all the time dpsing and I imagine the mana becomes harder to keep up. I wasn’t sure what to make of the logs, it seems like the best holy in the world are doing maybe 80k hps in M+ while rdruids can get like 125k if you include what the Aug stole, and mw about the same. Disc seems a little lower in terms of hps but also has things like barrier and pain supp for 40% damage reduction, and shields to increase bars for one shots, no? So disc just blows holy out of the water? Am I just using the wrong holy build I can barely get like 100k on rise garrosh/Andy in fight. Another issue is for my healing to be good my damage kind of sucks, I’m not sure to what extent other people feel this way? It seems like MW healing can be very good but their damage is not so good?
Mana on disc is just broken once you get the 4-piece. I switched over to Shadowfiend from Mindbender and I got 412047 mana just from Shadowfiend in a +21 EB on-top of 119898 from only 1 point in Throes of Pain. Disc is literally like lol what’s mana???
Holy doesn’t even remotely get anything close to that. They need to nerf Disc’s mana return and buff Holy’s.
Honestly, I’m not dps-ing much at the moment and just focusing on healing (unless there is a zero damage phase, like the ghosts on first boss in BRH) but I haven’t done anything above a 20 so healer DPS isn’t as important as it would be at a higher key level.
There’s really no point in playing Holy in M+ anymore. Not only is Disc better at healing, but with 4p it also does a consistent 40k+ dps throughout the entire dungeon. And since there’s no dps stop to heal, you’re basically taking another 1/2 dps with you. It’s a no-brainer which spec to invite.
is it really? pls back that up. Ita been meta in mythic raids. Never in mythic plus. Ive been playing disc since wrath, all through keys. At no point was disc meta in keys
Druids and pallies were meta in legion and bfa. SL was varied from shammie to holy priest. So when was disc meta
I did a +5 DOTI last night as my first Mythic in Im not sure how long as Disc. Wasnt fun.
Trash and 1st boss was fine but the 2nd boss we wiped over and over and over. Finally got it done. 3rd boss was fine. Final boss we wiped so fast. Then finally got it done.
Im going to stick with +2s for a while, or just DPS, because I just dont spend enough time on it. Healing takes way more effort than tanking and DPS.
Yeah, sucks holy just ain’t it. I played the hell out of this spec back in SL and thought it was great.
Now my spells feel like they don’t do much of anything. And sanctify, my favorite ability, does nothing. I swapped to disc yesterday and it’s miles better, but only because I had to.
Only thing I will say is stressful about disc is the beginning of the fight getting set up for atonement’s
Disc was meta in SL S1 + S2, but fell off hard when Holy became FOTM in S3 + S4. I played Disc and Holy last season and there wasn’t this wide of a gap between the two specs.
Holy had better single target + emergency spot heals and damage whereas Disc was better with atonement and group healing. Things weren’t miles apart like they are now.
Disc shouldn’t have better single target healing, infinite mana, and significantly better group healing. The 4-piece on Disc closes the damage gap between Holy and Disc because now I’m doing 70k+ dps in keys on Disc compared to 35-40k.
Holy needs big buffs for M+ and raid.
Holy’s benefits is that disc strengths heavy lean on setting up cooldowns. Holy’s tool can mostly be used on an ad hoc basis. You will have a bad time on disc if you make a mistake and start falling behind. Holy is a lot more forgiving.
This is my thing at the moment but I just need more practice. I play pretty equally Hunter, Paladin and Priest so I dont dedicate the time to Disc healing and it suffers because of it.
When do I Pain Suppression? When do I Barrier?? When do I Desperate Prayer? With so many cooldowns do I just rotate throuhh and assume the 1st CD will be back by the time Ive used the last?
Etc.
I mean…
Meta in the sense of being meta? Or meta in the sense of being the priest spec people played?
Because those are 2 different things. Disc was far from meta in SL M+, people just played it over holy in S1/2. Disc was mid tier at best, and even after Boon of the Ascended got huge buffs, it still was pretty mid tier if you went kyrian. Paladin, Shaman and Druid were all still destroying it.
From what I “hear” some people are really enjoying how Discipline feels right now. That’s great. Good for them. And Mistweavers seem to be kinda happy, too?
I just don’t get why there hasn’t been much attention to Holy even after this with all the love Disc got, and was surprised for there not to be a bullet for Holy in the initial 10.2.5 notes. My expectations these days are extremely low.
We got hit so hard to nerf Holy in raid, it seems, and while the single target buffs and the buff to Pontifex are nice… it kinda feels like once again it’s “here, have some super strong Holy Word tier, now go away.” It was the same with Divine Conversation. I think Holy, in raids, still plays fine, it’s not very clunky. But in M+ it’s always been in a weird state and have thoughts.
- I agree that Lightwell should move up in the tree. As has been stated, we have a whole heck of a lot of Prayer of Mending talents. Combine a few of those or something and move Lightwell up.
- Divine Hymn could use more oomph in M+. It’s nice to use for a heal amp, but maybe it’d be more enjoyable at its current power level if it could be channeled while moving. Maybe.
- Prayer of Healing just… needs some love in M+. As it stands now sometimes it’s nice to help build HW: Sanctify stacks but it’s not used for actual Healing and that’s just sad! Playing whack-a-mole with single-target heals works but we’re presumably a generalist ‘basic’ healer, at least that’s the draw , to me.
- Being able to use Divine Word more often would be amazing, I love that ability so much (it plays into the whole flexibility / generalist vibe)
- What the heck happened to Power Word: Shield (this is rhetorical, I know what happened). It was so cool that it was brought back for us, and it was a chunky absorb for us (not optimal, but that’s fine), too. Then health bars got boosted, and the absorb was boosted for Shadow, but not us. I’m not asking for Disc levels of chonky, I just like the spell and want it to be a bit more satisfying to see on health bars.
- Restitution should NOT be a choice node with Miracle Worker. It absolutely should not. This is my biggest gripe, it’s a festering bitterness. Maybe because during beta it was a choice node with Afterlife (which made more sense)—and at first this seems like a power issue in Arenas. But then when seeing where so many of the other cheat deaths are, and even that the DK one is guarded by a single talent node… perhaps it’s more
- Miracle Worker shouldn’t be a capstone given that Protector of the Frail (pain suppression gains charge) isn’t, or
- Restitution should also only be guarded by a single point node (unless Miracle Worker moves up)
- Regardless, we’re thematically made of paper, and very slow (because if we could Vault we’d almost always Vault) and “heal from beyond the grave” is in our spec description
- Is there a choice node with more friction than this? I’m genuinely curious
- Do you want to be able to heal the key OR survive a random missed interrupt
- Obviously it’s possible to play without Restitution, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want it, just like I want Boon of the Ascended’s swirling halo animation on Empyreal Blaze
I get that some people want fewer buttons but give me all of the buttons. Some people want to do the damage themselves but I really don’t care to (I do it because it’s best for the key, I don’t really get any joy out of spamming Smite and spreading Shadow Word: Pain). Fae Guardians (specifically Benevolent Faerie) was fun (if not a bit clunky) because I could help CDR someone’s offensive CDs and I was super-sad to not see that come back in some form. A DPS “Hymn of Power” of some sorts. Or maybe make a choice node on Empyreal Blaze to get some kind of “Mercy beam” damage amp for others, since Power Infusion isn’t good for all specs.
This is without mentioning an Interrupt or Battle Rez, because if the things above were looked at, I think it’d be fine without them, though with how much MD, PI, and Symbol were hit, I say that more from the “low expectations” side of the house. Obviously opinions vary.
Restitution MUST be a perk for holy priests. Nerf it to the ground for PvP but for PvE it should be THE iconic ability of holy priests.
Having an auto brez is just too unique and so in touch with the fantasy of being a holy caster and they gutted it to the ground at the start of Dragonflight for no reason at all
But yea apart from that holy priests does feel quite underwhelming this season.
How are people doing so much damage on disc? Would anyone mind looking at a log and helping me? I think I am missing something, I dropped holy nova as well is this fine or going to make a huge difference? I saw top logs using it like 7 times so I thought it could save me a button. My issue is I feel like I understand the DPS for holy, and the healing for disc, but not the converses lol
Wasn’t disc also meta in early legion or thereabouts?
I think in nighthold tier it became pretty meta, yeah.
In EN, people thought it was terrible, and in dungeons it was a shadowmend bot.
Though, Legion was also the start of M+, so meta was kinda wild in those days.
I think Disc’s best tiers were actually during BfA. Still weren’t the best, but they were at least pretty decent then.
My best dps parse so far (was 100k on details with Aug buff):

Pretty much I’m slamming out Shadowfiend/Mindbender on cd and using Penance/Mind Blast/SWD to maximize its output. Also, Penance spreads your dots around.
Then you have things like trinkets (waycrest + nymue), shocking disclosure pots, glacial fury phials, etc
Thanks, how do you decide when to use divine star and holy nova? Do you just use them on very large pulls (what is your rule, it looks like 7+ and 10+?)
I dispute that heavily. I played disc and only disc this whole time. In beta it was meta. Not in live content
You are an accomplished healer bro but i played disc and only disc since wrath
a quick google
Shadowlands Healer Rankings - Best Healers for Mythic+ Season 1 - Wowhead News
When i talk meta im talking keys. I said keys and im staying with keys. I know disc was meta in mythic RAIDING. Im talking mythic plus.
Meta in the view of sub creation or universally seen as meta in keys by everyone
Thats how i remember it
