This thread brings up a point I was thinking about just yesterday. So I am in the process of leveling my first ever toon on a pvp server. I did the research and chose a server that had a pretty close faction balance. I like arenas/BGS. I liked the old SS/TM wars.
I was expecting glorious battle. What I got was anything but. My toon is almost level 40 and has been in exactly 2 fair fights. The rest have been high levels (that I have no chance against) killing me for shiggles. Some were even gracious enough to camp the area and kill me repeatedly for a while.
I get that pvp happens on pvp servers, but this is not what I expected. Silly me, I expected wars in high level zones. I expected capitals constantly under attack. I expected territorial combat around raid instances.
What I got is high levels camping low level quest hubs just to be annoying. High levels sniping you on their way by. No wars. No glorious battles. Nothing interesting- just griefing lowbies.
I have a few theories about why this occurs and the numbers shared by OP very strongly reflects those theories.
this lopsided pvp server drama has been the FUNNIEST thing about classic. legit i think some people intentionally roll on the heavily skewed servers just because they want the bragging rights of being on a pvp server w/o any of the inconvenience. i feel terrible for everyone who was originally on these servers tho.
i was on Incendius, it was a great server almost 50/50 and then it became the joke that it is nowā¦My guild stuck there till it went about 90/10ā¦ Very sad.
Basically we where a low pop 50/50 server. They opened up transfers and a bunch of ally who where probably outnumbered came to our server. Horde who donāt like to pvp got scared and moved off because it was 60/40. It just kept snowballing.
70/30
80/20
90/10
By the time we left, there was no one in org. Could not pick up pugs to raid, it was a ghost town.
Iām familiar with why the horde left Incendius because the majority came to my server. When they came over I was still ranking my druid and ended up joining their groups which meant a lot of time spent just chatting with people. So for that and some other reasons I know why the horde transferred.
The horde of Incendius transferred LARGELY over queue times. It was causing a lot of problems to sit in a 4-hour queue to raid etc.
Earthfury was 60% ally/40% horde. They came here hoping to make it 50/50 but the 30+ horde guilds made it 55% horde/45% alliance.
Again I spoke with quite a few when they came over and many love PVP including world PVP and did not want to leave Incendius. To say most of them hate PVP is incorrect.
In every game that doesnt prevent high levels from camping low levels (kudos to warhammer online for fixing this) you will see griefers doing that. So this must be your first experience with pvp?
This is the way PVP servers are. This is the way PVP server people are. Theyāll never engage in combat unless they have superior numbers or level. When they say āworld PVPā they mean a 60 camping the FP at Chillwind picking off level 51 as they land. They mean a group attacking a solo, they mean high levels attacking low levels. What they DO NOT mean by world PVP is anything that might resemble a fair fight.
Canāt handle getting ganked by a high level? I believe the popular phrase for that is āgit gudā
Inbalance is a player made problem. Blizz helped by giving Paladins both seals. Unless they offer something significant to transfer things will stay the same
I played on incendius when it was a perfect 50 50 realm. It got to that in the first place because all the alliance free transfered off of skeram. Once several top guilds do it, others follow because they lost protection in phase 2. Incendius was 50 50 after that leaving skeram completely horde dominated. Then, on incendius the alliance were sweaty and dunking on the more casual horde that played on incendius in 50:50 Wpvp. So the day free transfers opened up again 13 horde guilds left to eathfury. Making it 80:20 alliance over night. The 20% horde slowly disappeared to 0% for obvious reasons.
These servers were fine but free transfers, although felt nessecary at the time, had insane consequences for our servers.
