Streamers - Pretty much. Rarely I’ll come across a streamer I like but for the most part I can’t disagree here. Maybe I’m in the minority but if Soda / Asmon being seen as representative of the Classic community is just so lame. I’ve been watching more Twitch lately because of beta and came across a couple of the Yogscast boys playing Beta… good lads but considering that they haven’t given a sh!t about the game for like 10 years that was surprising to see. Found myself a little salty.
Layering / Sharding 2.0 - Meh? Necessary evil I guess. We’ll see how it plays out in practice. I don’t fully understand how the server tech works but it certainly isn’t comparable to todays infrastructure. Servers are basically ‘in name only’ if not meaningless now w/ CRZ, Realm Groups, Communities, Cross Realm Grouping etc.
Release Date - I’ll confess I had a slight chuckle that there won’t be as many summerkids running rampant on the servers around launch but maybe that’s just because I’m old now. Combined w/ streams hyping the living daylights out of the beta it sort of made release feel further away.
everyone is complaining about not getting into beta. because of it blaming streamers. this is stupid as heck. blizzard i think its clear you need to open the beta. If you think they’res isn’t enough servers then just continue to open more servers and inv more people as room is available cause at this point its just driving people away! it may be classic but its 2019.
Number 1 is what made me unsub for good. I was already pissed with retail changes (portals and water strider) but I was still gonna stick around but this whole streamer debacle made me say bye. Seeing Blizzard suck up to assmonwhatever when he called vanilla players “retards” for not being on beta was my last straw.
I dunno how I managed to not see this thread before now but god damn is it spot on lol. And #1 has become even more poignantly accurate in the weeks since. Take my well deserved upvote, OP.
Its not that only 50 out 2000 people are streamers. Its the fact that ALL 50 streamers got in.
Now, lets take this a step further. It’s known they will get privilege from the stress test by Omar knowing who Asmon was and screwing with him from the shadows until he reveled himself.
This shows they are watching the streams, know who the big names are, and are also aware of the hype.
Now imagine this same streamer a few weeks after launch is doing BWL or MC and has 100k viewers. They can see the hype from this. Whats to stop them from altering the loot table to give them that ONE DROP they have been talking about all day?
It Would boost their views a TON.
In these delusional peoples minds this is the new reality. And this cancer spreads fast even if it is false.
And that’s where the cancer starts. A substantial portion of people are going to start thinking this the more fortune streamers get. This entire beta selection process is putting that in peoples minds.
Im not saying its right, but damn is it a cancerous thought.
I don’t think streamers are going to get any special treatment on live but it will turn into a fall back after a while…
I don’t watch TV period let alone ESPN. Never had an interest in watching guys play with their (foot/base/soccer)balls. That directly carries to video games, did I love a pickup game of ball in the neighborhood when I was a kid? Sure. Watching “pros” do it has always been boring to me though. If I was watching these streamers it would actually dampen my enthusiasm I think. To each their own.
Classic should have hit with no beta and at the beginning of summer. And definitely should not have hand picked streamers for advertising purposes. It is a fifteen year old game.
Blizzard is milking it for everything they can, which isn’t surprising but still depressing.
Don’t endorse streamers. I wish everyone would just stop watching so twitch and streaming would die over night.
