Every single private server (Kronos, Lights Hope, Nost) all were leaps and bounds better. The overwhelming majority will agree as well.
It’s actually astonishing that a major corporation could screw up such an easy scam dunk in every possible facet -
PvP - can’t think of a worse way it could be done
PvE - can’t control any bots. First Blizz post is nearly 10 months since release. TEN MONTHS
Questing/Leveling - allowing boosts to continue for this long and still allowing
(I went to type slam but it auto corrected to scam and I figured hey that fits better)
This is a legit complaint, and it’s not that they can’t control bots… it’s a lack of will to do so. They very clearly don’t want to devote any actual human man hours to the problem.
Lets be honest a big part of why private servers were better is that they also had better communities. Blizzard made many mistakes on classic, but the playerbase is also very bad.
Yea man. The private servers where people could literally buy level 60 characters in full Naxx gear were definitely better versions of classic. Super great take.
Do people seriously played all those past pserver of Classic. They lvled 1-60, farmed farmed instances, farmed BIS gear, lvled same professions, farmed mats/gold, farmed pvp ranks? Then official Classic came and they did it again? I am asking legit questions because I would shoot myself doing same stuff over, over, over and over again.
Every problem you listed is a problem because of the PLAYERS and not activision. You say they can’t manage it properly but you think they can do a good job changing it?
The private servers were for a much smaller audience than classic is. I love some good ol activision hate as much as the next guy but how things played out is because of the players not the company.
They tried to change something as small as the instance limit and its been a disaster. I don’t think any further interference from them will go any better.
Yes…because they truly love this iteration of the game.
They even like it so much that they are willing to pretty much make their old characters obsolete…they will demand fresh servers and new progression. They will never touch their old characters. I hit level cap on a pserver 2 weeks before they made a fresh one…I figured: “Hey, maybe some people will stay on this old server.”
Blaming the player base to an extend yes, but giving Blizzard a free pass here is laughable.
For starters their decision to use layering instead of the dynamic respawn system already opened the door for changes as we experience now. So this was bad, because it also severly skewed the impressions players had when lvling their toon. Horde was always gonna be more popular but on some servers its comically bad. (+ layer hoping to exploit resources or mob spawns). Combine that with Blizzard being absolutely secretive with the server ratio and stats as well as severly underestimating the amount of people wanting to play the game (remember when they launched server after server because literally every server had a 5k queue?) led to some mega servers with 10k+ population, with every player not wanting to move again 2 days after launch because they were already lvl 20 by then.
So now we had a bunch of fresh but dead servers and a ton of servers with just too many people on it. A world designed for 3k people that is a playground for 7k+ people will result in issues.
Resources are too scarce (hence we had to adress the lotus issues), phase 2 was a mess for most pvp servers which led to people taking advantage from free server transfers even more. Server transfers that would also not inform the players how bad it was on the old server or new server. So we got abominations like skeram and heartseeker.
Blizzard then introducing paid transfer without any restrictions and applying restrictions way too late and still not in an optimal way.
The bot issue that is not dealt with for months (on pservers youd just get insta banned if you used a program. Atleast on the good pservers).
Like I could go on but this is already so long. To claim the playerbase is at fault for the current state of the game is… well partially true. But the OP is also correct.
They did a piss poor job for a company worth billions on how they managed their servers, managed the launch and how they treated the game after all the initial problems. I also expect that some of the negligence is absolutely calculated to make em more money (like the paid server transfers and their “slow” response on capping those).
Its a disgrace and shameful that they are actually doing a worse job than some Russian kids in their basement. And if they do not do a worse job in your opinion the pserver community still gives em easily a run for their money.
They’ll never accept any responsibility for the state of affairs in Classic. EVERYTHING is Blizzards fault and if they see their friends doing things that will later cause situations just like this, they will STILL say “Blizz should fix this.”
Noone is saying Blizzard isn’t primarily responsible. But, to say that PS had a more authentic experience is a lie. Folks have talked, in detail about the poor management of PS and folks want to make it seem like all that never happened to create a false narrative.
There is NO balance in the discussions, it is ALWAYS Blizzard’s fault. One player went to a overcrowded server, even after Blizzard put up posts saying not to(cause his friends) and then demanded that Blizzard fix it.
