This new loot system sucks!

The issue is how do you go about determining whether the item is better or not? Item level is a horrendous indicator of power level, especially for unique raid items. For instance, the best trinket for me to heal in M+ comes from raid even at several dozen item levels behind the next best trinket I can get from M+. Then even with similar item levels, different specs want different secondary stats; the item that just dropped may represent a throughput increase even if it’s a few item levels behind what I’m wearing.

And that’s to say nothing of people chasing transmogs…

Wait until the bulk of the population comes back to check out Dragonflight and see loot system is back. I was on the fence about buying Dragonflight, but this decision by blizzard has closed my wallet once again. It’s design is open to abuse, we need less things that segregate the community not more.

If you don’t want to come back for Dragonflight for whatever reason, that’s your choice. Truly, enjoy the break.

But what I don’t understand is why so many people feel GL is more open to abuse than PL. As I mentioned in a previous reply, there is a social dynamic that can make loot decisions by players feel worse under GL than with PL, and that may be good enough justification to not change it for PUGs.

However, I genuinely don’t know why so many people feel GL is rife with abuse potential compared to PL. Loot generation is different between the two systems which can lead to better or worse chances for players, but on average in a PUG setting, the acquisition chance for each player is roughly the same as with PL, even if everyone rolls need on every item the system allows.

PL and GL both award a set number of items; with PL the game rolls a number for every player behind the scenes to determine who gets loot. The game then selects an item from the boss’s loot table that matches each player’s loot spec and awards them the item. That player is offered no ability to choose whether to roll for an item at either stage, regardless whether the item is useful to them or not. In essence, you’re rolling against everyone rather than only rolling against those who could use the item that dropped for their selected loot spec. Then while it may be a rarity, for anyone who greeds or passes, that gives you better odds at that item than you would’ve had with PL. At worst, your chances at loot are roughly the same, with the potential for your chances to be better if someone doesn’t select need even when they can.

Enjoy the break? lol I take a break every xpac, wallets been closed since early Shadowlands. I dont give Blizz money for bad design or decisions.

Item level is they way blizzard determines the better piece. As for transmog farmers you can still win an item you just can’t easily beat someone that actually needs the piece.

They could implement it the same way they did trading with personal loot. So when you equip the higher ilvl on that slot the bonus for that slot is removed. You can’t please everyone but it’s a solution instead of just complaining.

My point is that item level has never been a good way to determine strength of items. As a result, any system that makes someone ineligible to roll on an item that is lower item level than what they’re wearing would be terrible. If Blizzard redesigned the item level system to accurately reflect power level then perhaps this could work. But as it stands today, an item level 265 Gavel of the First Arbiter is probably better than any 304 2H strength weapon that can come anywhere else for nearly every 2H strength user, and even guardian druids.

My point is that people who are after transmog (who are going to roll need) aren’t going to be concerned with item level at all. While I’m sure many would be happy to tell me that transmog should come after people using an item, that’s a rather artificial restriction requiring one person to dictate to other players what the most appropriate use is.

I’m not complaining about the current system. I’m actually in favor of the GL system compared to PL because I think there are more upsides than downside. Each system favored different folks for loot creation. Loot distribution is nearly identical if everyone needs an item, but is strictly better whenever anyone greeds or passes. Yeah PUGs will become more emotional due to the player interaction when somebody rolls an item they think they deserve more for whatever reason, but over time I suspect that complaining will decrease.

because most people around here believe they’re entitled to any piece that drops, and if it goes to anyone else it’s because that other person cheated or abused the system or ninja looted or “turtled” or whatever else

Not gonna lie. I actually feel pretty vindicated seeing everything that went down with the ML change now happening to PL

All these made up problems when the reality is people crying are the ones who are just unlucky when it comes to rolls (that personal loot did anyway you just didn’t see when you rolled a 1)

The bonus for rolling is already in effect in lfr. When you roll on something that’s not your current spec you roll the normal 1-100. If someone else is rolling for their current spec rolls on the same item they get a bonus I’m not sure if it’s 100 or 50 in the background.

Honestly for transmog I want the trials of valor system for the raids. Set the drop rate to require 3-4 clears or the equivalent and let you earn the look that way instead of just drops. Weapons could work that way for looks ( I may have the raid name wrong but where we killed helya)

Because they feel like people who don’t deserve loot having the audacity to roll against them is inappropriate.

yah it sucks was getting gear every 3-4 bosses did all fated boss’s today so like 25? got zero gear so personal much better imo prob just gonna do mythic dungeons at this rate since its still personal maybe lfr just to see the raid like once at this rate

Yeah and I’ve had toons get more than 6 items for the span of all the bosses with group loot, where as personal loot I’d be LUCKY if I got 1 maybe 2 pieces.

Goes both ways man, rng is rng. The only difference is you get to see when you roll a 1 now.

go do all the world bosses there’s like 100% chance to get atlest one thing if you do all the lfr everyone’s gonna need on everything and probably get nothing :3 back in legion they added a forgiveness system with personal loot in that you get a better and better chance the more you lose till it’s like 100% chance so about every 3-4 boss’s from what i noticed but dont seem to work with this new system i guess cause people are rolling on your gear maybe iono

Do you have evidence of this? How?

Also, I highly doubt any MMORPG reverted things back. Name one ONE MMORPG that did a change, everyone hated it, then reverted it back to normal.

Well, it gives a reason for people to bring friends

Nah I strike out on world bosses plenty.

i’ve gotten like four drops from world bosses across all my characters this entire expansion

We’ve done every world boss the last 3 weeks and I’ve gotten nothing for gear drops. My friend who needs the gear git one piece in 9 bosses.
