This isn’t wow related but I’m out of my depth

So my wife wants a “laptop” of sorts for writing short stories and poetry maybe some browsing the web YouTube or listening to music. Mainly the writing aspect though with a keyboard. It’s been a while since I built my own pc and I’ve only ever geared them with gaming solely in mind. I’ve noticed he chrome books but I’m out of touch with today’s newer tech and what I should look for (I replaced my 7yr old phone with a used 5yr old one and had the same pc since pre mop and it’s just now starting to crack on ultra settings). Looking on the more inexpensive way atm unless she really gets into it so basically something to start off with. Sorry for the ramble but any advice at what to look into and get ideas would be much appreciated thank you.

If that is quite literally all she wants to do, a ChromeBook would likely suffice. However, it’s important to remember that these aren’t necessarily x86-based systems, nor do they have the same software ecosystem as something using Windows, so if she wants to do anything else further down the track it may make it more difficult to advance without replacing the unit completely.

Importantly, ChromeOS is not the same as Android, either. Fundamentally they’re quite similar, but they’re not compatible with each other.

Realistically, anything with either an Intel or Ryzen chip is going to be more than adequate. AMD’s A-series would also work, but I find they suffer from a poor user experience. Just find one with a screen she likes.

Oh, and check the storage configuration. A disturbingly increasing number of low-end laptops boast a decent capacity (1TB+) but note in the fine print that this is online storage. As a cost-cutting measure they ship with horrendously small drives (32GB or less) with “the cloud” covering the rest. ChromeBooks aren’t exempt from this practice.

If they want wow to run on Chromebook then enable Linux commands on the Chromebook and then install lutris

echo "deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/strycore/Debian_9.0/ ./" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/lutris.list
wget -q https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/strycore/Debian_9.0/Release.key -O- | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lutris

Then just install the WoW client, EZ

Thank you guys. It gives me something to look into and at least have an idea of what to look for. Especially the cloud storage. I might end up just getting an external or docs writer in that case cloud is nice but your at the mercy of others to keep your info. Thanks again.
