unemployment is not one fixed rate. making stuff up to drive a point is a common practice here.
if someone else’s unemployment is higher than your normal gross then that’s just you working for min wage. being on unemployment will not hold the same benefits for you as it does them.

Well, my FT job only slightly pays better than minimum wage. Unemployment benefits were 800 a week. Do the math.
I see hundreds of “we’re hiring” signs everywhere. Facilities are running on half capacity. No one wants to work in a high risk environment either

The $600 a week top up from the federal government ended almost a year ago in December 2020, before vaccines were widespread. Afterwards, the federal top up was reduced in half to just $300 a week.
I make almost 12. That’s roughly only 480 dollars a week gross at my hours. Unemployed make double that.
I work for my money. Always have. But I have friends with family who are unable or unwilling to work making double. But, I love my job. I wish it paid more

I thought it is. We went to Disneyland last month. We watched Marvel’s Shang-chi in Imax last Saturday and the restaurants in the mall are crowded with people.
And Covid cases are rising again.

only last week they decided everybody should have to wear masks at schools because so many quarantines result after the first week of school.

Last I checked, $300 a week from the federal gov isn’t double of $480. I know that doesn’t include state benefits that vary for each person, but still.
No, it isn’t. If people are getting that money, it’s backpay from months that they qualified and weren’t paid that amount.
All year in 2021, people have only been getting $300 a week from the federal gov PUA program and whatever their state benefits are. It was cut in half to incentivize more people to look for work since vaccines were being made more available.
By the way, that program just ended yesterday. Now people who don’t qualify for traditional unemployment have been cut off, and people who receive regular unemployment now get $300 a week less.
If it was up to me, I would have everyone paid more during the pandemic - unemployment raised even higher (to incentivize people to stay home since the pandemic is far from over), wages increased for essential workers, and government price controls in effect to prevent greedy companies from raising prices on essential goods.
A lot of people seem to still be running off the idea of the normal Covid strain instead of delta, which has a higher infection rate among children.
Sara, you and I have disagreed on a ton of things in the past, but I wish you to be healthy and stay safe in the lockdown. Make good choices and be kind to others, and yourself.
