Tanking is fun. Toxic and/or clueless dps isnt
Problem with ILVL balance is that theres like absolutely no balance in always dead and wiping or alive. I don’t get why they’re so opposed to second death systems. IMO it could be a whole lot funner if for M+ they gave each tank a toggle like ability like the Corruptions rez where if they died, a temporary 1-3 second aoe stun would go off and theyd have the choice to get a cheat death rez (with no repair bills) Also tanks could offer -75% durabiliity damage taken and - 75% repair bills and it could go a long way.
Reduced repair bill is a step in the right direction
What they need is to give more incentive to tanks to be tanks! They need to discourage jerks from pulling mobs ahead of the tanks. They could give a 30 second debuff to any non tank that pulls aggro without a tank. It could be an accumulative debuff for each mob you pull that increases the damage taken by 10% per mob. After they start dyeing off fast, they will learn to quit pulling aggro.
There are LOTS of people that gave up tanking because it wasn’t worth the hassles of dealing with idiots.
Adding more tank specs will do nothing to increase people’s desire to be abused and annoyed by the other obnoxious people in a group or a raid. There’s a reason many tanks say they will only tank for guilds or friends.
Never say no to more tank specs, but lack of variety isn’t really the reason why people don’t tank.
Tanking felt horrible at the beginning of BfA with the GCD, loss of artifacts/leggos, and changes to M+ design. So many people switched over just because of that, and the Azerite armor system kept lots of people from multi-speccing.
Then we have PvP, where most tanks are fairly useless. Some are busted but in most cases you’re holding your buddies back by not playing a DPS.
Add that up and you’ve got a game that incentivizes all but the most enthusiastic tank players to switch specs.
Tbh, you’re totally right on this. I’m leveling up a paladin right now and wanted to tank. However I just remembered tanking on my Druid, I got kicked even though I thought I was doing good. Pulling aggro and such, I got kicked for no reason. Apparently “I wasn’t pulling aggro at all” when I was but the tank would pull it right back. So that is why I went back to dps because I just didn’t want to be kicked all the time when most of the time it isn’t the tanks fault.
my blood DK is pretty nasty in pvp. It will take a while but one on one you’re going to die. This pally is a free hk though

I’ve tanked. It’s not fun. It’s really stressful.
I would love a tank assist addon. One that tells me what targets the mobs around me are on, links a chat box directly to the other tank and sync’s us up with stack rotation. Shows me the ideal place to stand in the room. Gives me tips on the best pull strat. All of that would be nice.
Ive been saying it for a while, I love tanking but dont like gearing alts. If hunter had a tank spec, id tank.

They could provide a option for dps 10 levels above a dungeon’s min range to tank and provide exp and a taunt hot key (and a symbol above their heads). This would be a interesting option for dps to help out other dps. It would help the lower levels out a bit.
Then you’re not wired for it and that’s cool.
And you don’t need more wasted tank specs people aren’t going to play.
Uhhh they better make a new healing spec if they’re ever gonna add another tank one. We’re getting pretty bored too lol
I think this would help the most. The problem is you only need two tanks for mythic. And way more dps.
I am all for shaman tanking. They could easily rework enhance into a tanking spec, based on earth element as the OP said.
Back in burning crusade i effectively created an enhance shaman off tank. With the proper gear and speccing i actually reached the def cap at the time and off tanked karahzan for my guild with it.
I stress off tank as due to lack of certain abilities and talents and main gear pieces it was not effective as the main tank. When lich king launched i was unable to achieve the same standard though.
But having things like earth shield for armor rockbiter for threat it worked for its intended purpose.
Enhance as it stands is not really a useful spec in most aspects. Im not saying its bad by any means, but its not up to standard of what most other melee specs can achieve. Its kind of in a weird place.
Im all for a rework of the spec as they did with survival for hunters and combat for rogues.
The game doesnt need more classes, we just need some touch ups and reworks on what we have for some new style (
