Except that the people saying WoW will only 25k players so “No Sharding!” are also saying it’ll be bigger than Retail.
It’s hard to nail people down on their predictions when it suits them to change.
I predict Classic population will be over 9000.

Thing is, everyone has different criteria.
Do people get bored and quit 6 days after newer expacs? Sure… but we don’t see any WoD private servers, excuse me if those are a thing. There’s more to the game than clearing the latest raid and bailing.
I’ve always played for fun and socializing. Things that again, depending on your perspective, are conspicuously lacking from retail of late. Nobody talks, nobody cares who’s in general, queue up from Org and go go go, do your WQs, farm your mythics blah dee blah… that’s boring.

Vanilla game-play as nature promotes grouping and communicate with others and create friend-lists. Even Blizzard seems to forget why many in-game mechanics seems to exists. Long spawn times, to be able to kill 20 mobs alone or group up, elite quests, all these encouraging people to play together. While waiting for 10 minutes spawn time boss, the groups are talking to each other and making friendships.
As soon as ActiBlizz adds sharding all these elements will vanish and we will have a dull retail version which is a single player game. Also with this attitude I do believe you are going to quit faster than many as no one likes naysayer or who claims with negative predictions telling people what they are going to do.
I mean you have a great point.

To be honest I have not seen anyone or many say these things in here lately. Could be I don’t get sucked in by the title though.
THIS is the only forum on Blizzards forums I will go to… I still stand by my years old self induced absence from the toxic other forums.

Sure you do, its not a big deal and its not a main release right, its just a pet project that won’t do very well but you don’t “think” its going to fail…nice double talk bud, I would hate to be your significant other and have to decode every word you speak.

It will not be the same experience as 2004-2006, it’s impossible to be for most of us – the veterans. We already know the game, and we have different lives.
What won’t change is the game … only if it adheres closely to the original that is… meaning, Vanilla was a masterpiece . Nothing will change that. It had flaws and wasn’t perfect but it’s one of the greatest games ever made. As long as Classic doesn’t steer too far away from it, it still will be that same masterpiece.
No amount of negativity will change it from what it is.
That being said, the way you experience it this go around will be different.

• Hunter will have mana not focus 
• Will have to feed pet/gain loayalty
• Ammo to use abilities
• Wanting to and excitedly waiting to play a game for the simple fact I enjoyed how it was as opposed to trying “recreate my experience” which I will be doing anyway since my “experience” was enjoying the game.

I don’t love myself though. Far from it. I actually hate myself. But, I’m told that’s a huge problem, so… I dunno what to do about it.
Certainly dealing with people who want everything to be a circle-jerk echo-chamber doesn’t make me love the rest of humanity though.

He’s trying to claim moral high ground against things that happened months or even years ago. You don’t see them now because he’s crafted the argument to target people who we know Blizzard didn’t follow.
Then he lumped every other person he didn’t like into the “same” group.
I’m one of those people who say the “playerbase will drop off”. I can all but guarantee it, because the Classic sub is included in Retail, so at a minimum every single Retail player is going to at least give it a few hours whirl. So there’s definitely going to be a big bulge that falls away later.
My prediction is around the 4-5 million mark of people trying it, and maybe 10% sticking with it, because its a harder game than any of the themepark “We all worship you specifically” stuff that’s out there now. People who like to be told how awesome they are won’t like being laughed at and told to collect zhevra hooves.
So 500k people playing on the regular is still going to be a successful game built on gameplay not nostalgia, but plenty of people will still “lose interest”, or only “come back for nostalgia”.
The argument is crafted to be antagonistic, despite the fact that both sides of the more recent argument he’s claiming he’ll win, are achievable at the same time.
He probably just doesn’t want sharding.
