That there is a connection between the endgame and outside world makes me only focused on endgame? I disagree. My meaning there is the opposite, I feel like the two parts of the game are too isolated from each other.
No, I’m suggesting the story integrates better.
That’s exactly what I said.
I did not imply that. I said the storyline was hard to find.
Dont know if it has been hit upon yet, (stop reading around post 150), but retail is a terrible starting point for new people to mmo in general and a hard point for returning player is they haven’t played in ten years. But the light at the end/beginning of the tunnel is you have a choice to jump in the fire or go straight to the roots of the game and hit up classic. Classic has several options as well with classic classic, classic hardcore, classic wotlk, and classic sod. I would recommend to lvl up a toon in classic wotlk to get a taste of lore and tons of chat. You will also get to learn you toon better as well as leveling is much slower. You can start out just doing regular dungeons and move up to heroic and then heroic +. Can even get currency, to buy last phase raid gear, from heroic + dungeons. The best part is you can find a guild that will take you to any raid with any spec you like to play as long as you can play that spec well. Then when you feel comfortable with the game in general jump to retail.
I think theres almost too much going on in the current expansion to try to jump in as a new player. Its why i spend most time in the classic versions, far less stress and its almost relaxing compared to being a job to keep up in dragonflight. I will say dragonflight is much better than shadowlands so its better starting new now than 2 years ago.
I think it’s because retail marketing and community is really only about hard end game, and everything else is presented as an afterthought, so you feel stressed out and forced to compete, or else you’re led to believe you’re not getting your time worth. The proclaimed fomo.
Whereas classic starts at level 1 at your own time, and it’s much more inclusive when it comes to player activity, and so you feel like you’re getting your time worth even when you’re going at your own pace.
I always enjoy the arguments that the game needs to remain needlessly complex from the people that kill normal Fyrakk 3 months after the raid releases.
Gotta have those 40 keybinds so normal Gnarlroot feels challenging.
Legendaries still exist are are inherently FOMO as they are designed to be obtained solely through RNG rather than effort and time. Evokers have one, and 2-H weapon users have one too in DF. Drop rates are stupid low, why do you think people wear so much crafted gear? (Its not due to higher ilvl or better stats)
We tested it out last month when a friend from Old Republic came over to WoW for the first time. They went through Exiles Reach, got introduced to Chromie and chose to go Warlords because they wanted to see what the Garrison was like.
I told them it wasn’t the best idea, because Garrisons weren’t like Strongholds at all. They were disappointed and went back to Old Republic. lol
yeah i see that… i just don’t understand how you equated “removing expansion restrictions”, with removing the restriction of needing a character of a specific level on the account prior to accessing the feature.
TBF it appears that most games that require long-term investments don’t appeal to younger players. There are just too many games out there, so much diversity.
I don’t think commitment in general is really a Gen Z quality and it feels too early to tell with Alpha. Not a sleight on them at all, they grew into world of plenty. As an older Millennial I grew up with limited options, and WoW was just at the right place at the right time for us. But western culture shifted at some point.
I honestly feel like the only way this game can appeal to younger players would be if they designed it in such a way that it drove older players away from it. There may be a sweet spot, but I can’t really picture it. Good luck competing with Roblox or whatever the game of the week on Steam is.
Y’know, coming in fresh to WoD would also be pretty fun with that opening sequence, but probably a letdown when you realize the games not that high energy after it.
This isn’t an age thing, its an everybody thing. Multiple planned or already released live service games have been canceled/shut down because there is just way too much out there now.
Its not just games either, EVERYTHING is fighting for eyeballs. Games, streaming services, mobile, social media, etc., and its way too much so people are just sticking with specific titles.
Wow is definitely filled with childish and sometimes disabled people. I’m thinking if you can’t tell the difference between those and actual children you either fall in the same category, or you have never seen a child. A child would not find a raid entertaining, children do NOT play this game.
