“He’s a Key. Stone. Hero. Da da da da da!” ![]()
They made parody songs against TOS I think , although I have written several for wow , that I am very afraid to mention here. Somebody put video of gadgetstan to Wierd Al Yankovics hardware store and that is about as close as it ever came to parodying wow officially.
I am not sure why it’s frowned upon, but I sing parody songs to myself and short of removing my brain, nobody can stop me doing them in my head.
You notice Weird Al’s most recent album is polka songs not parodies, an attempt to stay relevant I’m sure.
Weird Al has always done polka songs. Since back in the 80s.
FWIW parody is protected as far as the law is concerned, but I don’t know about ToS.
They certainly are out there, though. Sharm did a bunch.
Key-stone-hero… got loot in his eyes…
I thought parody was protected. But I remember years ago finding this parody music channel on youtube called Butcher Bros. They had a couple of really good parodies. I temember one of You’re Beautiful and one of Polkaface that both made me laugh. But then eventually they disappeared from youtube. I always figured the copyright bots got them. I even googled and couldn’t find any sign of them. I should search again.
Speaking of Weird Al in the thread, i did a Dr. Demento Dead Worgen Aren’t Much Fun parody of his Dead Puppies Aren’t Much Fun song.
i think it was on the old General Discussion forums though.
Edit: I FOUND MY OLD POST
i think my original posting of it was older though, pretty sure i posted it well before 2023. So maybe i had just reposted it on the newer forums.
Keystone Hero
Verse 1
Logged in, flask up, stone in hand,
Party’s forming, here’s the plan.
Tank pulls big, healer’s sweating,
DPS says, “No resetting.”
Kicks are ready, stops are clean,
Dodging swirlies on the screen.
Timer’s running, mobs are low,
One more pull, then boss—we go.
Chorus
We’re climbing higher, key by key,
Pushing through the dungeon spree.
Bloodlust roaring, cooldowns glow,
Chasing that Keystone Hero.
No wipe can break us, no affix wins,
We release, run back, and go again.
Through every tyrant, every foe,
We rise as Keystone Hero.
Verse 2
Tank says, “Trust me,” pulls the room,
Healer types, “That’s certain doom.”
But somehow everyone survives,
Barely holding onto lives.
Interrupt missed, the cast goes through,
Mage ice blocks and blames the queue.
Rogue says, “I had kidney soon,”
Hunter’s pet pulled half the room.
Chorus
We’re climbing higher, key by key,
Pushing through the dungeon spree.
Bloodlust roaring, cooldowns glow,
Chasing that Keystone Hero.
No wipe can break us, no affix wins,
We release, run back, and go again.
Through every tyrant, every foe,
We rise as Keystone Hero.
Bridge
One percent left, the timer’s red,
Half the party’s nearly dead.
Last cast stopped, the boss goes down,
Achievement flashes, wear the crown.
Final Chorus
We climbed it higher, key by key,
Timed the run and claimed glory.
From broken pulls to perfect flow,
We earned that Keystone Hero.
Raise your weapons, let it show,
Another season, another goal.
Through every dungeon, friend or foe,
We stand as Keystone Hero.
Right? Tell me you know nothing about Weird Al by thinking polka wasn’t always half of his music to begin with.
I do parody lyrics here all the time as well and never had anything come of it.
Parody songs need permission from no one. Weird Al just has the decency to ask for permission first, as he doesn’t want hard feelings.
His polkas are awesome because they’re almost like little time capsules for particular eras of music. This one was from 1999, and man it just takes me right back!
I think most musicians consider it an honor to be parodied by him.
I remember Amish Paradise. One of my favorites.
Also, this might not be Weird Al, but I want to share it anyway. Fun piece.
Standing in Silvermoon
With his head hung low
Couldn’t get an invite
It was a meta group show
Saw the groups disappear
He could post on GD
Put a topic on the wall
Then like a distant scream
He heard one refrain
Just blew him away
Saw io in his eyes
And the very next time
Listed his own damn key
In a second or two
Didn’t know how to take it
But he knew for sure
That listing his key
Was the ticket in
Didn’t take long
To form a group
Just one keystone
Sprung forth the show
Was one use item
But the sure way to go
So he started listin’
Ain’t never gonna drop
Gotta keep on grinding
Someday gonna make it to the top
And be a keystone hero
With io in his eyes
This took me more time than I thought it would, but it’s not very easy to actually parody this song to this particular topic.
Ok , when y’all are rattling a tin cup in internet jail, I will remember you.
Keyboard warrior has asterisks in his eyes *_*
Yup, he has even won awards for them. I know because a polka band I knew was complaining because they lost to some guy called Weird Al.
They had no idea who he was, much to my amusement.
I am not really sure about this song other than the chorus.
Speaking of wow parodies… I remember being online and reading the forums when this song was practically being live workshopped… and then Sharm used the lyrics and made a song with it.
She even credits the poster who wrote the lyrics in the description. This song was made on the forums basically, so I think it’s probably OK to do parodies.
I’m going to go see Weird Al in September at Paso Robles. I’m pretty excited.
I sure hope he does Albuquerque. It’s one of my favorites.
“I. Hate. Sour kraut!!!”
Crosby Stills and Nash really wanted to be parodied by Weird Al, which is why he did the Corporate Speak song. It’s more like an homage to them. It’s a cool story.
I’m waiting for him to come back to the casino that is 5 minutes away from me. Last time he was here, I had a schedule conflict. ![]()
We were supposed to see him at the Venetian in Vegas, but life happened. I’m so happy he’s coming to Paso.
