There Has to be a Middle Ground

Blizz…I get it’s only like 3 weeks into expansion. I know I’m basically complaining like a sweaty try hard because I don’t have a 226 ilvl already. But, it’s seriously annoying AF to spend so many hours playing (whether all at once or spread out over a whole week) and get very little to nothing for my effort. Yes, gear drops. Yes, SOMETIMES it’s an upgrade. But, I’m really tired of playing at the Blizzard Casino. I don’t want to gamble anymore. I will seriously play for another 15 years if gearing just felt more consistent instead of feast/famine.

Just saying…

Dude, looking at your gear I can promise you could leave for a month and come back without missing a beat. With the current loot strategy, it will be exceptionally hard for you to get any meaningful drops for a very long time.

Yes, Shadow Priests should get more hard casts and not be mobile, healer, tanky, and bursty, and consistent dps all at the same time. Sub Rogues shouldn’t be able to have Overlapping effects continually overlap to add percentages of increased damage to the thousands. Ret Shouldn’t be able to heal for full every 5 seconds. There has to be middle ground indeed.

I don’t care about gearscore, IO, ilvl, any of that crap. This isn’t about getting into groups or anything like that. I consistently out-perform dps in every group (with the exception of MM hunters and unholy DKs–and the occasional, well-played aff lock). I play because I love seeing the progression of my character’s power. Performance is what I enjoy. Seeing performance stall because I can’t get anything to drop is debilitatingly frustrating.

So this is scores better than BfA where real upgrades were extremely rare, and the ability to actually equip the upgrade was in jeopardy as well.

Mathematically, this is WAY better than BfA was with it’s RNG.

I wish people would stop complaining about this, and actually use some common sense.

THIS IS THE MIDDLE GROUND!

It’s anecdotal, but here’s some evidence to back it up. Just in this week (since Mythic+keystone opened), I just finished my 20th dungeon, a PF+8. Most of them have intentionally been at the +2 level though, so I could spam them back-to-back. After 20 dungeons (which is anywhere between 70-100 boss encounters–i.e. chances for loot) I got 4 drops…including repeats/non-upgrades. On the extremely optimistic side of those numbers, that’s a 6% drop rate. SLOT MACHINES give better odds than that!!!

If you want guaranteed loot, get honor gear. Then upgrade it to 184. Or use it to fill in the gaps.

I have a higher ilvl than you without spamming mythic…just doing what I’m in the mood for (188).

Does anyone have about 200+ Ilvl yet?

Or is that just people that are buying the BoE’s.

That right there is making my argument for me. If blizz is willing to do it for pvp, why can’t pve have a similar system?!?!?!

To gear up in all 184? I don’t see an issue with them adding that. But much like with honor gear, the guaranteed pieces should be limited in ilvl, imo.

Sorry Blizzard only works in extremities, Middle ground is non-existant. Everything is either 0 or 1 there is no 0.5 or 0.3333333…

Well played sir. Well played!

Mythic+ is 1 drop base 1 drop for timing (max 2). It doesn’t go by boss count.

So if you did 20 runs and all were untimed and got 4 items that would be 20% loot chance.

If you did 20 runs and all were timed that would be a 10% loot chance.

It’s also unclear to me if you time a key if the same person can get both items.

To me this largely has meant that there is a lot of benefit to making friends and running a consistent group.

The more items you get, the more difficult it is to get the next item. PvP, Trades, and the weekly chests can help fill those slots.

I remember trying to find my BiS trinket in BfA. It ONLY came from the weekly chest drop. Talk about some low odds.

Then there was corruption gear (50 corruptions). Getting the correct item with the correct corruption and minor stats was pretty close to impossible. Repeat that 16 times.

If you’re doing it with ONLY 15’s, and you didn’t have a weekly chest and gear trades (duplicated), it would take ~138 dungeons to fill 16 unique slots (it’s a bit lower than that since rings, trinkets, and weapons can sometimes be duplicated at a slot-level).

Also, there will be a lot more trading as the weeks go on. When you get a trade, it reduces that number of dungeons significantly (as I showed in the earlier thread) since it’s usually targeted (no duplicates when you receive a trade).

My kingdom for a group of like-minded, mail-wearing friends who want to run M+…

With how pathetic the loot drop rate is I really wish they would add in bonus rolls. Especially after the raid loot nerf. Playing just kinda honestly feels like I’m wasting my time. 10+ m + dungeons I get 1 loot. Two nights of raiding I get 0 pieces, yep feels real bad.

I can’t seem to run De Other Side without queuing with 2 more Hunters. I got that bow last week, then immediately upgraded it to a 200 two days later.

Wowprogress database shows only 41 characters in NA at ilvl 200+ as of today.

Yeah, mail has it tougher, although a part of me hates how armor stacking allows for gear drop cheesing.

But, many slots are not armor that can be traded.

If you use a MH/OH it’s actually split exactly in half.

8 slots mail

8 slots non-mail

Then, I guess perhaps my complaint has more to do with it feeling like a waste of time to do SO much…and gain SO little from it. Even if, like I said in the original post, it is literally only 3 weeks into an expansion intended to last at least 2 years. I just don’t like feeling like I’m gambling every time I try for loot. What can I say, I’m a conservative Republican boomer that only invests in government bonds…XD
