There are 7 versions of WoW supported by blizzard

Retail only. If I want to visit zones I played in days gone by for the nostalgia (Howling Fjord is my most nostalgic zone), I can go there and take in the ambience any time I want. There is no way to capture the original feeling of WOTLK launch again (as an example), just memories and nostalgia.

Retail, intermingled with Hearthstone.

You and me both!

My favourites are retail and classic vanilla. Not really a fan of classic expansions or SoD.

I thought I would have liked SoD as a mix of two, but I my real dream is revamped leveling in retail to recapture some of that classic leveling immersion, while leaving retail endgame as is. My biggest gripe about classic is forced group play in the end game. I know it’s supposed to be the staple of classic, but I like it more for game mechanics and love playing it with one another person. Retail allows for much more content while playing as a duo. So I’m usually enjoying classic leveling each release and then step back into retail.

If classic was actually popular, they wouldn’t need 6 different versions with constant gimmicks to get people to try it again.

Blizzard was right. People thought they did, but they didn’t.

Who would have thought that letting players play the way they want to would be an effective strategy?

Something for everyone works well, apparently.

Retail. But I played Classic simultaneously alongside it. Actually I’m the only person I know in my WoW group who raided in Shadowlands and in Classic simultaneously when it dropped. I was raiding 5 days a week? Or something like that. And yes it did make me go insane.

I’m also the only person I know in my WoW group who played all 3 simultaneously. I was gearing my Druid in Cata Classic, playing SoD and also pushing keys in Retail.

Retail is still my favorite version though. You don’t need the past versions since the community is completely clown world now, it’s no where near how it was back then lol. I don’t care how many streamer events you throw.

I’m not interested in HC though. I already play other single player games where you perma die. I’ve been playing Terraria HC Get Fixed Boy with random loot. I had like post Moonlord gear and still got 1 shot by a Jungle Mimic. I was like uhhhhh… Granted I was at half HP, but still.
I also lost my Project Zomboid character last night because I forgot to pause before I got up to make food. Came back and I was a zombie lmao. Oh well.

I’ve played since vanilla so having experienced it back then I’m not keen on going back .

Also , classic was awesome but it was the people and friendships back then that really made that era so amazing .I know that’s weird to say with todays ā€˜ community ā€˜ - but really - it was the players and community and interactions back then that really made vanilla what it was . I made friends from all over the world and it felt like an adventure every time I logged in and started chatting with guild mates .

So going back to classic with the game population from today - it’s not the same .

You’re just getting half of what made the game fun back then .

Retail.

Im a wrath baby and when wrath classic came out i didnt want to relive those moments again. Wrath was good for its time but retail has too many QOL improvements to ever go back and relive the past.

Less than that considering they put in the awful, stupid version of AV and did everything in a dumb way.

Retail. I play WoW to do its hardest content. Classic raids have nothing going on.

Gotta be retail for me. I’m taking a break from TWW to play on the Anniversary servers, and it’s been a fun jaunt down memory lane, but I’m only enjoying it now because a lot of people are starting fresh again and we’re all pushing.

Once this ā€˜season’ is over and the hype dies down - and it will die down -, I’ll be going back to Retail. 11.1 looks like so much fun, and I can’t wait to mess around in my new car.

Yeah, this is something that I’ll never understand about the Classic Andy crowd. You had LOADS of people swept up in hating BfA that they were willing to believe any of the streamers and content creators who claimed that vanilla was ā€˜that much better’.

And then they played it, realized that maybe it didn’t age as well as they thought it did, or that - shocker - their tastes had changed and the old game wasn’t doing it for them either. Or they played it, got to see the old world, and left.

I love the thought of taking old content and repurposing it or changing it to make players approach an old thing differently. I loved Pandaria Remix as much as I loved Leagues in OSRS, and I think Classic is a fun little playground to do that, but my freakin’ god, the game now gives me WAY more mileage than vanilla ever did.

I got to level 2 or 3 in Classic before hauling my donkey back to the warmth and safety of Retail.

Classic:
ā€œMissā€
ā€œMissā€
ā€œParriedā€
ā€œMissā€
ā€œDodgedā€
ā€œGlancingā€

You don’t get hit gear til like level 55 and even then it’s so little it’s laughable.

Then in TBC they bake hit and expertise into all the trees. Gee, I wonder why. It’s just a joke. I don’t even mind hit rating that much. Classic was designed to be a full experience.
By the time BC comes around, no one cares anymore and everything is linear and the questing experience turns into ā€œKill 500 beastsā€, ā€œkill 500 demonsā€.

Me too. I really liked HoTS. Was a simpler version of DoTA and LoL but still fun.

Retail. I’m just not a teenager with endless time anymore like I was during BC/Wrath. I can get as much or as little and I like how of retail. Classic is too time consuming and would sadly keep me from enjoying other games. I did enjoy season 1 of SoD though.

Retail go to boring. Flying around and herbing or farming dirt mounds or doing dailys… every single day… just gets old super fast.

I was about to unsub and then they brought back HC, and now I play that nonstop.

HC is the best version of WoW.

I could see how HC could be fun, but I can’t see how it could be challenging.

Pull 1 mob. Kill. Pull one mob. Kill. Repeat. That’s not challenging. It’s just one giant prep the entire time and tons of credit card swiping because I know people in HC aren’t farming gold. Laughable.

In MC you should never be dying really. It’s some noob that’s gonna get everyone killed, not your own mistake. Beyond that it’s a meta nightmare of bringing only the most perfect things to kill everything perfectly so no one dies. That sounds like crap.

Remix was as far as I will likely go into alternate dimensions of WoW (and only because the rewards fed back into my collection).

I don’t really have any interest in revisiting past versions of this game … when I started playing WoW, the main reason was because all the alternatives were either being abandoned to a zombie state by their publishers or becoming heavily monetized (or both).

If I’m going to split my time starting over in another game I want it to be something completely different than WoW, not just a variation of WoW.
