The Wyrm's Rest Accord: The Cabal Neighborhood

We’re getting close enough to start setting up some kind of RP neighborhood. The premise here would be (in no particular order):

  • We can each place 1 character in the neighborhood so our character list has access.
  • Houses would be first come, first serve. Move around as you wish.
  • Events can be held with or without advertisement, but if we have numerous ones scheduled at the same time that overrun whatever Blizz puts in as attendance levels, we’ll try to negotiate that out.
  • Players from other servers (MG, ED, etc.) are fine.
  • Visitors are fine, but they’re your responsibility.
  • RP in public spaces should be respectful.
  • Players and characters should be 18+.
  • It’s fine if there are more than one tavern, more than one restaurant, or any other type of business in the neighborhood.
  • We won’t be creating server canon.
  • If someone needs to unsub for awhile, let us know and we’ll keep the character in guild for (some amount of time - 90 days? 6 months? idk).

Still don’t know which faction or a guild name. Discussions of the above list or any other details, suggestions, etc. are welcome at this time, regardless of whether you plan to put a character into the guild.

(Note: Joining the Cabal neighborhood does not automatically make you a member of the Forum Cabal. There is no such thing as the Forum Cabal.)

Well now you’ve gone and done it. I would prefer Alliance, but I am not particular. I’ll make it work no matter which side we end up going with.

Horde Housing Plots:

Each neighborhood has 50 plots in the first instance. If you have more join, I think the system automatically creates a second instance, creating another 50.

Horde!

I also want to be the spooky guy in the woods.

when the other hoods come out, will there be plans to swap?

I’m down! And again, I will help in anyway I can. I’m cool with Horde or Alliance. I actually do have a couple of Alliance characters.

Guild name suggestions… Dramatic Fiasco or Dramatic Fiascos LLC. Cabal Realty (optional LLC). Dramatic Cabal Ventures. Sorry, it’s been a day and I’m tired.

For some reason, I suddenly started thinking about how grave robbing for the medical school was a big business in Edinburgh in the 19th Century.

I’m going to have nightmares tonight.

Well I am a pirate already, so I just make a game out of it… I call it “Six Feet Plunder.”

I’m down.

I have nothing else to add. Horde, mostly, but I can bend.

Even though I do not RP much anymore, I’d still like to be in a WrA neighborhood. Are folks like me still welcome? Or are we hoping to maximize RP potential with true RPers? (for lack of a better term.)

I think this is a good thing to settle because I’m sure I’m not the only one who identifies as a RPer but doesn’t really RP at all anymore.

I’m in a similar position to Topsail, being Oceanic I can often not be available at ‘organic’ times for American players.

I’d love to join but if spots are filling up and folks need access, I understand.

I don’t think spots fill up. If it’s a guild neighborhood, it just phases in another section. Or that’s what I’m given to believe. So yeah, I don’t see a problem with RPers who don’t RP as much anymore joining. Or RPers from different time zones. The only thing is, Rakham will probably go full highwayman on us, lol.

As far as a swap to other neighborhoods, I’d guess we’ll need to wait to see what Blizz does? Maybe they’ll let us have 3 or something, idk.

Is housing on WoW going to use a key system like in SWTOR? Potential weak point is keys may be required for entry if the host is offline. For example, my strong hold requires a key if offline. If online, the palace is listed and publicly assessable. If keys are required, I feel sorry for you guys. I truly do. Interviewing 3000 players (WCP, HOA, and WRA-D) for keys is the equivalent of onboarding the workforce of choice of an Amazon FC, 8 Wal-Marts, 2 New UPS Hubs, School District for a larger suburb, you get the drift…..

Then there are shard limitations. How many players does a single house allow? My strong hold holds 50. I often host music events getting about 30 - 40. Per neighborhood? Warcraft seems to have about a 75 players limit before performance takes a nasty hit. Blizzard stated we will be able to not allow players on the front lawns as well! Now there are 3 shards, one for house, lawn, then neighborhood. Seems like this will create alot of technical limitations on the ability of neighborhoods holding many players.

From what I saw on the PTR, they won’t need keys. You can choose who has access to the yard as well as the interior. It can open to anyone, nobody, or limited to neighbors, guild members, people on the friends list, and/or people in your party.

Here’s a screenshot from an alpha access video (nabbed it from SoulSoBreezy on Youtube) showing the permissions.

Only way I see that working is running on WoW 2.0 which much of the game will be in Midnight. By the end of Titans, the entire Warcraft apparatus should be running on WoW 2.0. From an engineering and cost perspective, screening each character for ‘character friend, Bnet Friend, IRL Bnet Friend, ignore, Bnet ignore, etc….’ all for 3 tiers of access from house to yard, to neighborhood, will require significantly more scalable computing. For example: I play on a character on MG while RPing off and on with another toon on WRA. Over the course of the hour, the two characters will shuffle between MG, WRA, and Stormrage, more often WRA. Why is this? Because the software decided to put the two characters on WRA before spawning another copy of Dornogal. The housing system from the shown description adds 3 entire new layers of computing. 40 players in my SWTOR stronghold handles great. Add all that mentioned uping to 70 players, it will take much longer to place the avatars short of purchasing more scalable computing. It’s really a wait and see proposition.

I’m good in a horde or alliance neighborhood. FCHOA seems appropriate for a name.

Edit; If I get a spot, I’d be parking Iggyscardust there to host a performance venue.

I’d be interested in joining.

As for location, normally I’d vote Horde but the Alliance neighborhood was actually pretty nice. Either would work.

I didn’t get much time to try out interior options in the PTR, but I did start on two concepts. One was a large tavern with several small mini guest rooms. The other was a single large staircase room setup as an apothecary shop, with a loft apartment above that had a hidden lair behind a bookcase. I was originally planning to do the tavern, but the more I played with the shop, the more I loved it. If I’m allowed to join, I’m leaning towards setting up a “Totally above the board” apothecary storefront, with a little night market in the backyard. (Edit to add: I’m thinking more along the lines of oddities and illicit potions, not a Breaking Bad kinda thing)
