“The WoW Killer” Who Knew?

“The only thing that will kill WoW is WoW” -Totalbiscuit 2012ish.

Given Blizzard’s push for esports, the Blizzard arena, and everything else, I think they are still counting on WoW to help them make that next phase successful. I would think, if WoW was really on that shaky of ground you would see more drastic measures being taken, at least the replacement of key people to help right the ship. Activision-Blizzard is a successful company and they haven’t gotten there by being stupid, regardless of what we think. You have to assume they will take action when they feel its needed, unless they truly feel WoW doesn’t bring value enough to save.

But then again, I would have thought Ion would have been shown the door awhile ago so what do I know…

Err… i don’t know about that, Activision has this thing for killing formerly profitable franchises. Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk’s pro skater, Prototype come to mind but the list goes on and on. They have also aquired and later killed a plethora of studios…

You do you boo boo :tipping_hand_woman:t3:‍♀️

To be fair, this was the most popular response to the “wow killer” games back then that I ever saw. Just because you see the train coming down the tracks doesn’t mean you’ll be able to get out of the way.

Yep… the Vivendi-Blizzard-Activision merger was a marriage made in hell.

Given that we’re 15 years on and many of us have a constant sub to show for it, WoW is unlikely to be killed any time soon. Even if they produce bad content for a few years, the decline will be slow and drawn out.

Yep. Came here to say this. That phrase has been around since Vanilla, although it was boasting about how great the game was.

Answer me this, Blizz. If the future is mobile, then why did you kill the WoW mobile armory app?! Double standard much?

Okay, that made me spit my drink through my nose I laughed so hard.

On a serious note, I see WoW going down the same road as SWtOR, it’s sad, truly it is.

Semper Fi! :us:

WoW has never been better

I’ve literally been saying it for over ten years now:

The only thing that can kill WoW is Blizzard.

It has been better, but it’s also not as bad as it could be. Still, the scaling needs to go away. What’s the point in gearing up if the mobs around you increase in HP as well?
