Weather is the single easiest way to immerse a player into the environment.
I feel like WoW has become 90% MMO and 10% RPG. We need more immersion-devoted elements in this game, and weather is one of them.
Azeroth isn’t a calm planet if you haven’t noticed. It has a moon-sized sword sticking out of it for goodness sake. Where’s the weather that reflects this?
I’m tired of logging in and seeing calm skies. We need more dynamic weather and skyboxes everywhere.
What are some suggestions? Here’s my top one:
- Violent sandstorms in Uldum.

Lightning storms that shoot you when you’re on your flying mount either fly low or walk through that zone when it’s storming.

They used to have very strong weather earlier in the game’s lifespan but people complained about not being able to see well during these weather events so instead of giving an option to dial it down, they just nerfed weather across the board.
Rain in WoW Classic, Silverpine Forest.

Oh man, now you’re just reminding me of the times I spent a half hour in one zone in ffxiv just watching the storm…

I have always thought it would be neat if more random events happened in zones, and weather was always one I thought would be neat.
Torrential downpours making it difficult to see for a few minutes.
Random tornado tossing you if you aren’t paying attention.
Lightning, meteors, earthquakes that make it difficult to walk or run straight.
I’m sure there are other ideas, and it should be as simple as toggling it on, mild or off.

Yeah, thats about right.
But… when was the last time you made a decision to affect the world around you in a meaningful way that wasn’t completely scripted to have one specific outcome? I mean… even if you picked to be a Sylvanas Supporter in BFA… well that’s done, and your on the “SyLvAnAs ToOk OuR DuDeS!” maw-walker team.
Thrall doesn’t even remember that were super best friends, that I stood up at his wedding, or that one time we killed Deathwing together to save-the-planet / Get-me-armor. He just calls me “Maw-walker” and not “My best friend who literally walked the elemental plains to put my soul back together on my wedding day”. No immersion, No continuity, and no actual RP elements.
So… 95% MMO and 5% RPG.
Because Wolvar/Oracles was a meaningful choice to me.

Oh man I hadn’t thought about the wolvar/oracle dailies in ages. I farmed those SO hard for the green proto-drake.
That was good content. Wrath was great. Every time someone reminds me of wrath my immediate thought is almost always ‘ya, that was fun wasn’t it?’

Basically the “casuals” cried about weather in classic like they cry about everything so it got removed. lol
FFXIV’s visuals are so good. Everything from zone design, to character animations, to weather… it’s just so pretty.

I remember when I first started playing WoW, there was a rainstorm in Elwyn forest.
it was just so nice.

Wasn’t the casuals. Was everyone. Mainly because WoW is on a 24 hour day/night cycle. Meaning, some people were perpetually playing at night. As opposed to other games where the cycles was just a few hours.
But you go right on ahead and toss around blame about things you have no clue about.

If you did the Highmountain questline with Warbrave Oro, he remembers you in Bastion. May be a small one, but there are a few of these around.

You fine folks have pictures of this phenomenon?
I turned it off on my toons. Hard enough to see as is.
Use the below to turn off.

And use this to turn back on if you want.

A picture won’t do it justice… but I’ll see if I can upload one to imgur… https:// imgur .com/gEtBXWR
I’m apparently not allowed to include links in my posts for some reason… so you’ll need to remove the spaces…

Would be more immersive that’s for sure.
Bliz screwed up day/night cycles cause they based it off RL time, it should’ve been something like 3hrs day and 1hr night.
