The Unofficial Stonemaul Ogre Playable Race Discussion Megathread! (Part 1)

I wanted to share another art piece from DeviantArt of a comission that involves an Ogre warrior fighting the Lich King. It was created by aened and was uploaded to the website on May 12th, 2025.

“Arthas vs Ogre World of Warcraft Commission” by aened on DeviantArt.

It’s a shame we didn’t get to see the MU Stonemaul Clan help out against Arthas in WotLK. Seems like they get to miss out on bashing several big bads of expansions, which would’ve helped out a lot.

Though looking at that art piece above, I’m sure a bonk on the head would’ve done some major damage to Arthas. And if that wasn’t enough, the Ogre could easily treat him like the Hulk did with Loki in that one movie. Puny king indeed! :muscle:

It also makes me imagine how with my Ogre Warrior character, I’d run through dungeons and raids while smashing things instantly to farm for various drops. Honestly, it sounds like a lot of fun and is likely something I’d do with my Ogre character. Hopefully I’ll be able to do that someday

Anyway, I’ll keep an eye out for more Ogre art pieces to share for playable Horde Ogre idea inspiration!

Reminds me of the Ogre character I want to have that would either be a Death Knight or a Necromancer.

Hes supposed to be a double headed ogre and was a ogre magi during the 1st and 2nd wars. He ended up being found by Arthas frozen in the Ice around the ocean of Icecrown. How he ended up there is a mystery as when Arthas raised him as either a Necromancer or Death Knight he had only scant memories of his past remaining. He then served Arthas willingly even after he regained his freewill during the events of the Battle at Lights Hope Chapel. (Regardless of the class he ends up he was at the battle.) Its not until Bolvar takes over that he basically becomes “good” to the rest of Azeroth and since the Lich King was destroyed forever hes been working alongside the Ebon Blade.

I really want Ogres as a Horde race and Necromancer as a class…

Arr me hearties! I be wishin’ ya a merry Talk Like a Pirate Day! :parrot:

Image of a Pirate Ogre Maneater taken from this reddit post.

There is apparently a new transmog for Pirate’s Day in Retail WoW. You can find more info here along with older activities you can do:

I’m sure we’ve seen Ogre pirates before in-game, so it would be neat to see what transmog sets people come up with for their Pirate Ogre characters.:crossed_swords:

Anyway, I hope everyone has a fun pirate holiday! :pirate_flag: :japanese_ogre:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems he was loyal to the Lich King position and without one he defaulted to the Ebon Blade.

Yeah pretty much. Hes a follower type guy. With two heads. And an interest in dark magic.

If someone else took the position he’d follow the Lich King again regardless of who it was or who it pit him against.

Ogres for the Horde, please!

My Ogre Warrior is proud member of the MU Stonemaul Clan and the Horde.

I haven’t thought too much on his backstory, but a lot of it is to help repay his clan’s debt for the Horde saving his clan multiple times. And of course getting shinies by smashing and bashing things is a fun bonus for him.

imagining him as a champion of the Horde and Azeroth is a fun thing to think on and I hope I get to create him and see that in-game someday.

Happy Fall, y’all! :fallen_leaf:

Fall is my favorite season and I love the cool temps and holidays in it!..if only Summer temperatures would back off so Fall would be longer.

Also, Blizzard is having a Deep Dive on Midnight with a live Q&A afterwards:

The thread to ask questions is linked above, but as soon as I think of some questions for the various megathreads on here, I’ll link to it in here.

Even if we don’t see anything about the Horde Ogre clans in there, at the very least, it can still bring attention to them and show how popular a request playable Horde Ogres are. Regardless, I’ll report anything of interest when I think of some questions.

Please pardon the two posts in a row in one day thing here, but I did make a post for questions from various playable race requests for the upcoming Midnight Q&A, including Ogres of course:

“Given that two of the three Horde Ogre clans (MU and AU Stonemaul Clans) owe the Horde a big debt for saving them and a Horde capital city is getting attacked by evil Void minions that could decimate the world (of Warcraft!), will we see any of the Horde Ogre clans appear and assist us in Midnight?”

Seems like the easiest thing to ask for involves the debts the MU and AU Stonemaul Clans have and to have them help save the world 9of Warcraft!) to repay it. Not that the chances of it getting answered is high of course, since I’ve asked it multiple times across many years, but still worth a try. At the very least, it shows the support for playable Horde Ogres.

I did try to ask questions for playable race request megathreads that would have a vested interest in the next expansion. It’s usually what I try to do with these Q&A threads. Unfortunately, I’m unable to do that with every playable race request megathread, usually if I can’t tie them to an expansion.

Still, I wanted to try to give who I could a chance to have a question asked and show interest for that race to become playable, so for any I missed, I do apologize in advance and if anyone can think of any questions for the megathreads I missed, please post as well.

If anything of particular interest does come from the Q&A, I’ll be sure to post about it, but it’s best to keep an open mind. Especially since there are plenty of great questions in there :japanese_ogre:

Will there ever be the day when I can play a 2-headed Ogre Magi? :frowning:

Perhaps.

I’m not sure on how the two heads would work with playable Ogres, so we might just end up with one head.

Though during an interview in 2012 the developers stated that “We considered them for Cataclysm instead of goblins. Figuring out the females and the two-headed mages would be (fun!) challenges. Maybe someday.” Showing that they did want to give us that option to have two headed playable Ogres.

I think people would be scared to see several Ogres falling from the sky. Not much place to take cover. :stuck_out_tongue:

But of course, the perfect place to drop them is on the Horde side of that character creation screen. Carefully, of course. Otherwise, all the other race selection icons would go flying everywhere and the UI would crack and break. And we want a functional character creation screen to make our Ogre characters.

At the rate we’re going, we may have our Megathread sequel pretty soon, so I’d guess that. We’ll be partying where ever we go, of course.

I can see one-head Ogres being at launch while a team works on getting two-head customization working.

I assume it’ll be a lot of work to get that working, so to be able to have a team do that on the side to put it in when it is ready, possibly as an unlockable questline, could work out well in the long-run and also act as a bit of hype when that gets released.

And I do think a lot of time will be needed to get it working decently. We’re talking a second pair of male and female models complete with animations, customizations, armor transmogs, and so on. And even with AI helping with some of that, it would likely take awhile.

Definitely worth it if it can be done, though, since a lot of people want two-headed Ogres and it would be huge news in the marketing buzz that playable Horde Ogres would cause.

That would make sense. Though if they do get the two headed system working, I can’t help but wonder if Blizzard would just automatically include them or make them as apart of a reward. For example, the Seeing Red quest chain unlocked the Man’ari skin for Draenei characters. So could we see a quest chain focused on the two headed Ogre ritual, unlocked the two headed option for Ogre characters?

They make you use an Altar of Storms to empower volunteer ogres.

A nod to the old lore.

Even more fun. They have you build an Altar of Storms in Dustwallow.

I still remember when Ogre Magi were created in Warcraft 2 when they captured Eleven runestones (that can still be found in Ghostlands near Silvermoon) and so got brains

Ogre Head 1: “I got the brains!”

Ogre head 2: “Nuh uh!”
