Regardless, Night Elves are the only “pure” elves in existence.
Not really? They were evolved by the Well of Eternity, and can be sustained by the Moonwells (though I don’t believe they have magical addiction).
The only pure elves are Trolls.
Which is why pure was in quotations.
I mean, fair enough. I would say considering the lore and cosmic charts, arcane is probably about as, ‘pure,’ as you could really go as far as a power within the Universe, considering Arcane is a direct product of the universe.
Sure. That works if you ignore the actual group of high elves we are asking for that have lived in dalaran and other human kingdoms for a couple thousand years now. It really isn’t that hard to say they have interbred with humans but are not really half elves because they are still mostly elf. Just a bit of human blood mixed in there.
I mean, if Kul Tirans can be an Allied Race because they love their sausage, there’s no reason High Elves living with the Alliance and thus having a different diet as well as lifestyle, couldn’t be a bit more muscular and larger than Blood Elves. Talendrion’s models come to mind.
exactly. Even without taking into account possible human cross breeding they still live vastly different.
Blood elves are pretty much universally nobles or would have been in that upper class before the scourge invasion. The commoners died. Most of the soldiers died. Most of the survivors would have been those living in silvermoon itself.
Meanwhile on the alliance these high elves are commoners. They live just like the humans.
More muscular is one thing, but taller? I don’t care how much I work out, I won’t be getting any taller.
Still, these models look great and would absolutely work for Half Elves.
I agree, I don’t see Taller being much of an issue. Bring those models down to the Thalassian height, use the Thalassian animations, and you’re more or less golden.
I love Talendrion’s mockups and I wish Blizzard would use them >_>
Talendrion did actually make a Half Elf Concept. The link is this:
But if I did have to choose between the two it would definitely be the ones Vexander linked.
Those look incredible!
Yea I like them too. If High Elves couldn’t happen for some reason and we could have half elves as a compromise, I’d prefer Half Elves like this.
No one can complain if they use the Night Elf model.
He he people always find something to complain about.
Just give them the Blood Elf model since we are actual High Elves.
Horde at least won’t complain.
At this point I feel it’s more “when” and not “if” they add High Elves.
They know there’s a lot of people wanting them.
The reasons to add them definitely outweigh the reasons not to add them.
It makes sense from a story stand point.
It also makes even more sense from a business stand point.
We know they’d be popular.
The resource needed to get them in game would be fairly low.
It’d likely drive revenue via subscriptions, race changes, and boosts.
Just sounds like a smart move.
The issue I see is that it then leaves 2 Thalassian elves on Alliance and one on Horde, but then that is once again easily fixed and features the same reasons above.
Popularity, ease of implementation, revenue…
San’layn for Horde. It also pairs nicely.
High Elves and Void Elves vs Blood Elves and San’layn.
We’ve already seen the San’layn featured in this expansion, so it’s likely there could be more plans.
Being undead elves, they could also be shown as being more loyal to Sylvanas. Perhaps with her encouraging them to raise/change blood elves into San’layn. If she’s not the one doing it, it doesn’t go against her deal with Lor’themar…
The Blood Elves also make sense as being the source of populating Void Elves and San’layn. Being the largest number of Thalassian Elves, drawing from them makes sense.
There’s been talk about the Void Elves looking for a way to increase their number…which you’d think they’d already have with how many keep showing up. Easy solution, and it’s already been foreshadowed. Unintended lashing out of the void against the light. Blood Elves draw on the Sunwell. Have them go up against Void Elves and they lose control of the void, with it feeding on the light within the Blood Elves, void corrupting them in the same manner as void Elves. They then try to return home and are shunned due to potential corruption of the Sunwell. The Void Elves then take them in, as they are also now Void Elves.
It’s also be interesting having all three Windrunner sisters leading their own race/faction.
I also saw some debates on Alleria being a Void Elf…kinda sorta. She’s not the same kind as she’s a High Elf wielding Void Powers, but she did undergo a different transformation.
I feel that whole thing is similar to Sylvanas.
She’s an undead elf leading a band of undead humans that were exiled from their people due to what they are.
Then we have Alleria being a void powered elf leading a band of void imbued elves that were exiled from their people due to what they are.
Both races mainly being able to replenish their numbers by changing others into what they are.
For Void Elves it’d be interesting to play a little off the vampire motif…one of the first things Umbric talks about is the hunger.
So we know there’s a lot of draw backs to being a Void Elf including potential insanity.
So unless one is just wanting the power, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to become one.
So having it be more of a loss of control forcefully changing others makes a lot more sense.
Similar things could be mirrored with the San’layn, but then you have the added benefit of undeath cheating death.
I’m sure there’s some other stuff I wanted to comment on while the threads were locked, maybe I’ll think of it.
Personally I’d rather see a Highborne variant on the Alliance that look like pre Sundering Azshara.
I think they are going to do Dark Rangers, the undead Night Elves, as an AR. It makes perfect sense if Alliance gets another version of the Thalassian model.
