Removing it’s identity/core wouldn’t strengthen anything. There are also several instances that wouldn’t make any sense cross-faction. No, removing factions would be a terrible idea that would do more harm to the game then good.
Optional cross faction for those that want it is best solution, so the ThIS iSnT wOrlD of oF PeAcE CRafT crowd can play how they want. No enemy faction players in your city or anything, just optional overworld and instance cooperation. Honestly it’d add a lot of flavor to the game within the factions, since not everyone would be willing to play with enemy faction. Would create some interesting friendships and moments imo.
Look, I agree with you, I think the faction divide is stifling and, tbh, I’m only playing this red faction for the fox people. I’d jump ship to Alliance in a heartbeat.
But ‘Muh Faction Pride’ and Blizz has flat out said they aren’t getting rid of it, no matter how much we whine, so… Lok’tar Ogar, I guess.
Yay.
Whenever anybody asks me how whiny this game’s community is, I just link them these threads. The amount of people having hissy-fits over being able to have more people to do content with is just pathetic.
People being able to play the game smoothy > Your fee fees about doing LFG content with the opposite faction.
Make a guild if you don’t want to see a gnome.
Blizzard has said “no” to a lot of things over the years, and then put things in a patch later right after saying no at times.
This is something that’s needed for the health of the game going forwards.
It’s either going to happen, or Horde vs Alliance dies in game.
No as a void elf I dont want to be with blood elves, I want to kill/enslave blood elves only not let them exist in the same space as me.
Especially the ultra generic blood elf paladins lmfao. Destroy them on sight!
That is like the Burning Legion 2.0 except all voided out.
I really hope so. Legit. I’m tired of balancing two characters because I want to play with my IRL friends who main Horde and my In-Game friends who main Alliance.
Blood elves are corrupted by light. Ugly af yellow eyes
Boy, I got my aqua eyes cuz I drank too much Mountain Dew Baja Blast!
To be fair, I don’t like the yellow eyes either.
Go Red team.
Blue team sucks.
I’ve wanted a third faction since vanilla, actually.
I always wondered why NPCs have more freedom of choice than players because they can apparently leave the horde or allowance to join the Argent Dawn while we can’t.
It really hasn’t been for a while now, and expansions like BfA that try to focus on it turn out to be giant flaming disasters which spiral off into being about world-ending threats anyway.
As Lustrois said above, the explanation for continuing the war is predictable now: faction leader goes nutters, contrived betrayal happens, etc., etc. yawn
If they want to keep the two faction system, fine, but allowing cross faction grouping would go a long way toward fixing so many of the game’s problems that I’m sure the devs must be heavily considering it at this point.
The focus of WoW has been Azeroth vs. World Ending Thread of the Month since BC. The faction war took a back seat a long, LONG time ago.
YOU
ARE
NOT
YOUR
CHARACTER ![]()
You are NOT an elf! You’re pulling your external biases into a game that sorely needs a refresh, and that’s bringing down the game. Keeping the status quo is what ends games eventually. Even if there is new content, it’s still the same type of content. See my post below:
Blizz needs a separation of pve (anyone can group) vs. pvp.
The nature of most servers ends up MASSIVELY skewed to one faction unless it is Emerald Dream.
How often do you get a player base going against their own self interest by joining a server faction with less people?
I invite anyone to look up numbers on, “wow realm population”.
Blizz can redo factions for pvp and player character can be a mercenary and fight for one loyal side if they wish.
Light vs. void
Nature vs. urban factions
Elves vs. everything else
Order vs. chaos
Something that may be aligned to warcraft 4.
I understand people’s loyalties. A good game I played in the past was Red Orchestra. 20% of players would exclusively stay loyalty to Axis/Soviet faction. Players were loyal because weapon loadout, to play underdog, or larp as a historical charicature, but the overwhelming majority just wanted to play the game.
The player factions need to be realigned like it is warcraft 4 faction reimagining, and not by race, but another dividing line that is player choice (including if they just want to play the game and not wait in a long queue), and by those that will never pvp.
The current situation could align with Alliance holding the majority of eastern kingdoms, and horde holding majority of kalimdor; however when Tyrandes and the void elf leader return, split from the alliance and they form an order of chaos with sire denathrius (since he is too good to be killed), the forsworn, kel thuzad, while velen and Anduin leave the alliance to support the light.
The other alliance/horde leaders see it as a useless conflict as there is too much faction fatigue from past wars and morally gray intrigue to choose which side.
It could simply be an arms race of both sides trying to resurrect the dead with light magic and shadow magic from the Shadowlands.
Love all the OP points. One additional item that was left off (and the Goblin in me saw immediately) is the gold! Think of the AH house!
I’ve been saying this since BfA as well.
I get some people don’t have a personality beyond “I don’t like the other guys!” but it’s important for them to know this is harming them as well.
From story, to game play, to design, to balance - It’s harming all of us because everything has to have extra work put in to be split up anyway.
Anyway, the bulk of the people who disagree will likely be Horde because they are impacted less, but realize you are still impacted.
Idk man. I look a lot like a male kultiran.
We have so many neutral factions in this game.
Would be a lot simpler just to let people join a neutral faction like “Friends of Azeroth” and be able to choose any race on this, the people there could interact with both sides as all the NPC in neutral factions do.
It would be REALLY nice.
I don’t, would join “Friends of Azeroth” for sure and would join the mercenary system to kill people that kill trees on both sides.
Don’t worry OP. It’s coming. This is the last expansion where we have a faction divide.
Go ahead and bookmark this post so you can look back at it in about 1 1/2 years.
Hope you weirdos that actually think folks on the other faction are somehow, (in real life no less), horrible people, or whatever idiocy, enjoy this last hurrah.
Also, get ready for new specs, inspired by the covenants, for each class
I honestly don’t understand why people are like that about a game. It’s one thing to identify with a character, but waaaaay different to project your character as your real life self.
