I do like that there is a system to try and maximize your gear and traits, by allowing players to purchase specific pieces

That’s where you are wrong. They have stated this is just a bad luck protection system. So if you are not getting what you want for a long time, you can still eventually get something you like.

At this point I think that it’s better to roll for the random than to go for the specific.
That being said I think that the intent of the vendor was to essentially be the ‘bad luck protection’ system. If rng goes long enough without favoring you with the proper traits then there is a way to insure that you can get them however it’s just that, a last resort. The high cost seems to reflect the appropriate amount of time that they believe to be long enough to say that it’s taken too long to get the drop.

I would guess that the vendor was meant to correct bad rng as it’s primary purpose.

It is indeed meant for back luck protection. Random drops have always been a part of the game, like never seeing Druid gear drop in old raids for months, but this system should allow a light at the end of the tunnel to fill in what you haven’t gotten by then.

Overall, how would you say the residuum is working as a system?
