A true good businessman is one who is attempting to run a stable business, not one willing to run it into the ground and lose a lot of their customer base in order to maximize short term profits.
MAU’s are down across the board for Blizzard games. There’s a reason why.
During Legion Ion told us in a forum thread that they measure player engagement as a 43 minute play session, since “fun” is subjective and not quantifiable. Even at the time I was surprised to read this, because people who are having fun will play more because it’s fun. But fun is one of those things they think is superfluous and won’t be missed.
Remember: “fun” = 43 minute play session

Exactly why I’m concerned about the new expansion. I really doubt their ability to create a good expansion as they have their heads so far into their numbers they don’t know what fun actually is.
Ill say this, what I got from the trailer and interviews was an extreme lack of passion (compare to the mobile game announcement - one team is passionate). Ion seems to make everything "interactive’ and the way he describes it is the kind of game I DO NOT WANT TO PLAY.
However, the change to the meta for Children’s week give me hope.
Weirdly, so does the announcement of the mobile game. It gives me hope we can have silly fun like poop quests again instead of “burn it, burn it all” edge.

One of the most stark aspects of player behavior I’ve seen over the many years of WoW is how strong the domino effect is.
One player leaves, suddenly you’ve got 3 people leaving, then 5 people leaving, a guild collapsing, tons of people going inactive.
One person comes back, one or two friends of theirs then reappear wanting to play with their friend again, then more people who were friends of those people come back, etc.
It’s not wise to discount the opinion of the people who stay just because they keep paying for a subscription. Those people are often the link that gets that first inactive person to come back, and if they do finally leave, it often signals a stronger break than the average player, and their friends take notice. I have seen this before, “WoW? LOL, not even (well known WoW addict’s name) is playing WoW anymore.”
These are forever linked and difficult to untangle.
Drop the rewards from anything and participation will tank. Does that mean it was never actually fun?
So wait, doesn’t that mean they’re making the game based around what they think most players would like? If it wasn’t something alot of people liked they wouldn’t be buying it, yet they do.
Show your work, I’d love to see these venn diagrams mapped out.
I’m sure they’ll be bias free and perfectly accurate to the entire population~
How to you propose Blizzard act before alpha is even out?
If I did it would look something like this: diagram split into four quadrants. X axis would represent content engagement as a spectrum between end-game on one end and leveling on the other–a player enjoying content somewhere “in-between” would represent the average player who might level one character, but never set foot in a raid and only does command table, dailies, zerith mortis, etc. The Y axis would represent content complexity as a spectrum between simplistic (i.e. players who enjoy social interactions, role-playing, etc.) and difficult, representing those few players who enjoy hard-core raiding or pvp content that is traditionally competitive in nature.
Next, I would poll the community and plot the groups as circles with sizing representative of their relative population. Where the most circles overlapped within this matrix would represent the target area I would have my devs focus on for maximizing content creation–AS WELL AS PLAYER FEEDBACK ANALYSIS.

If Dragonflight is doo doo goopy gamer doo doo engagement metric skinner’s box nonsense I will simply play Guild Wars 2/LOTRO/FFXIV again.
There is absolutely no reason at all to stick to this game if it sucks. There are many quality games out there to play that don’t fund Bobby’s Armada of Super Yachts. Imagine being a WoW Only Andy. Pathetic.

This game hasn’t really had top tier raids since WoD, they’ve really fallen off big time since Legion. FFXIV has better raids that are more fun to learn and you don’t need add ons. GW2’s Fractals are also incredibly complex far more complex than the trash they pass off as Mythic+

I agree, though there is a glimmer of hope. In the case of BfA and Shadowlands, the design was obviously flawed from the start.

Faction war (zillionth edition), Sylvanas and Old Gods
Nice zones (as always)
Small surprise that the only positive proved the zones.
The design of Shadowlands:
AP (third edition)
Covenants (divide content by 4)
Sundry obnoxious systems
Torghast (youtubers were enthusiastic, but it was obvious it would be a trainwreck)
Pathfinder
Cosmic war, Sylvanas and Zovaal
Nice zones (though somebody hate them)
Small surprise that the expansion proved… underwhelming.
