The only reason that I can see for time gating is the flying would increase the rate that you could farm stuff like herbs and ore. Not saying that it should be gated for a year or anything but there should be some time gating for the benefit of the economy early on.
Yes. There are.
A flying world and non-flying world are different. Players interact with it, and each other, differently.
The designers want not just single players to experience the grounded world experience, they want the WORLD to be a grounded experience.
With the time gate, you have that.
If players enjoy being on the ground their ground mounts still work.
With the time gate, you have me not experiencing the world because I’m not even playing the game. They don’t have that in my case and many other people, at least the ones who have said so in this very thread and in other threads on these forums or other WoW related websites.
But the players on the ground can’t enjoy YOU (colloquial you, not You you. The flying not-you) being on the ground. They can’t see you run by, they can’t /emote you, they can’t see you making the world a busier, more populated place.
But, demonstrably, the people that are gone are not missed. If they don’t want to play, they don’t want to play. Clearly who ever is leaving is not having enough of an impact on the decision making process. Maybe the fourth time is the charm, maybe this time it will matter. We’ll have to see.
It’s technically the 3rd time in Shadowlands in terms of the time gating because in WoD we were under the assumption we were never going to get flying again at all. Then it was time gated in Legion, then BfA, and now apparently Shadowlands.
I know I’m not personally willing to keep playing and waiting around for flight to be available for a third time again. At most I’ll come back when it’s enabled, but even then I’m still really angry at the devs for making me wait so long to finally enjoy the game.
That’s a terrible and selfish reason.
Quest areas are very populated because everyone has to land to do the quest. There’s where the interactions happen.
Add in some pvp and crafting requirements to balance everything out and sure.
Oh lord the rage that would happen. Lol.
Pvp is a side game very few care about. Remember when Blizzard had to bribe people to participate in wpvp with heroic level raid gear before flying was available? I do.
I think there should be a parallel path for PvP folks. Some rep building thing that could be done via PvP, and then the PF requirement is “do this PvE thing OR this PvP thing” i.e. get Revered with this PvE rep , or this PvP rep. That way you can’t PvE AND PvP, you simply have to choose one.
Not for the entire thing, but for a part. I do think the PvP folks are at a bit of a disadvantage for not being able to progress PF by “just playing the game”, as they play a bit of a different game.
I would agree to this two pathfinders ago when pvp players were forced into pve instances. I would like to see once them forced into pvp at least for one pathfinder.
We’re all still at a disadvantage anyway for not being able to progress PF by “just playing the game” because we still have to wait around for flight to actually be enabled even though we’ve already completed the requirements for it because of the time gate.
PvE players were “forced” (I hate using that word) to PvP for the legendary cloak in MoP. See my aforementioned “the rage that would happen”.
Nothing close to amount of people wanting pathfinder though.
You guys aren’t complaining loud enough.
I try to yell more but the flesh is weak and spongy.
Use those strong orc lady lungs! You can do it!
I love you. Can i be you when i grow up?
