THE success of ARCANE and the problem with Blizzard/Warcraft

Just do a character redesign like LoL did.

Ok boomer, the term has changed from its traditional meaning to just meaning people not in the younger generation.

WoW is already a boomer game lol. WoW is pretty much the nursing home of video games.

Maybe in your world.

But in the real world it is 1946 to 1964.

If you insist on using RL functional terminology to pigeonhole people, the least you can do is educate yourself on it and use it accurately.

No one cares about Zovaal wanting to remake the universe, because why would we?

We don’t know what he wants to remake the universe into. We don’t know why he wants to remake the universe. We don’t, really, know who this guy is. We don’t have any true concept of power level or scale or… Just, anything. Zovaal is the biggest, blankest slate imaginable. Sylvanas is an attempt to make the story relatable, but she’s been so badly twisted by the narrative that she’s barely even recognizable as a character anymore.

Answering those questions is how you give that story meaning. The story doesn’t have to be small scale to be relatable.

For instance, Zovaal’s entire goal seems to be to remake the universe. That’s what he wants. But that’s not a real goal, that’s a means to an end-- that’s like telling a story about a guy who just really wants to take a bus to Miami. Not that there’s anything in Miami for him, he doesn’t want to do anything except take the bus to Miami. It’s not a story about some grand cosmic entity anymore, it’s a story about a child who wants to knock down a tower of dominos “Because I can and mommy said not to”.

So… What does he want? Does he want to reshape the universe to get his dead wife back? Was a friend of his somehow wronged by the mechanisms of Death? We can understand those motivations, and connect with the character that way. Even a deity should want things for a reason, and we can relate to those reasons, no matter the scale.

I’m not too worried about the IP, considering it will still go on.

A Younger generation, from what i’ve seen, would join if the game is good, regardless what age group it’s trying to get. I don’t mind admiting that WoW is in pretty bad shape, despite me enjoying it still. So personlaly i think the solution would be to make the game better first.

Oh don’t worry, removing emotes don’t fix anything in the game. If anything, the game benefits having more emotes, and sure, their should be more emotes with animations and voices. Sure. There’s time where i wish /pick, actually has a nose picking animation instead of just orange text, just to complete the silliness of that emote.

…Well yes, because fortnite is a pretty big money maker that any company can get a slice of. Even DC comics iirc.

It helps that Arcane was received pretty well.

What is wrong with it becoming a boomer game exactly? Many of the “Boomer” games are still great and can still have enjoyment to be had. Some of them are even quick and easy to get into and start having fun immediately.

Also, wouldn’t it be a zoomer game since it came out in 2004?..

…Again, it helps because it’s good.

Agreed. And tbh, this way of thinking needs to be applied much more often then just video games, but i digress.

Hopefully they learn the lessons that a trillion dollar company couldn’t even figure out before launch that Blizzard from 2004 did… Not to make this about New World, but there was simply no excuse in 2021 for Amazon to put out a launch for an MMO or any game this sub par.

The irony is that the way zoomers are using it is reality so you’re the one being an old head not using it correctly

Insults do not change facts.

Please don’t mention the ruination… I usually love league lore but the ruination is just, ugh.
Can’t really care for e-boy dead king, and i was with such high expectations for the ruined king.

You’re argument is basically.

"Cool means temperature "

*kids calling their friends sneakers cool

I have no idea what you’re talking about, but I’m very sorry I triggered your League PTSD.

The part i quoted you is litteraly the plot of a lore event not too long ago. And it was garbage. Like, actual wow lore levels of garbage. I thought you were mentioning it, my bad then.

It should’ve been about Xerath.

As I recall they already have plans to add Diablo and Overwatch series for netflix. Something tells me those will coincide with the launch of the two games.

I’m going to be honest, the game was never design for boomers.Boomers are oldies stuck in their set patterns they make for themselves over years. The young are still growing to that point,so they can change with no problems.

As for the game using another newer effect to gain the attention, well that would be about as good as a lie from a parent promising a Disney trip and never getting there, because kids remember they been wronged.

Make a story in the end that can drive an emotion is better than a story that is heartlessly mechanical. In the end be human.

Actually it was “appeal” since he included the word “to” immediately after

WoW will pretty much remain a boomer game. Only aging millenials will continue to play it. I don’t see a lot of new blood coming to WoW or caring about it at all.

Yeah I work at a movie theater, the young kids play league or valorant.

The only blizzard game they’ve played is Overwatch… they’ve never touched Starcraft or Warcraft

They die.

Starcraft is a great game but it became a boomer game and died.

Even though Battlefield and CoD are still around they’re pretty much dying to Valorant, Fortnite and Apex legends.

Plus, wasn’t their many new games that died too?

Wasn’t New World was pretty recent and already it dropped about half what it had in it’s peak lifetime? Not something i would call a “Boomer” game. (Nor a zoomer game either since it’s way more recent)

It died because Blizzard wasn’t interested in adding another game to it.

Dying in what by the way? Twitch views? Profits? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

CoD and Battlefield are still going on today. And i don’t think anybody (well normal people) would care about the amount of views it gets on an adult website or how much a CEO makes from MTX. They would only be concerned if the game is fun or not, despite it being a boomer or a zoomer game.
