Not sure why people on the forum say ret is dead/bad. Ret is far from dead, it’s actually looking really good in Shadowlands both PvP and PvE…No we’re not S tier dps like MM hunters and destro locks, but we are holding our own. I play ret because I like the play style and animations/lore, not because it does the most dps in the game.

This doom and gloom is getting old, yes ret was mediocre in Bfa but it’s better now, it’ll probably be ok-ish at 60 but saying it is in a bad spot atm is just weird.
Is this a buff ret thread in disguise?

Story time:
I’m in a similar position as OP mentioned here. I’m a returning player from WotLK days (dabbled in Legion, rolled a DH cause new and then stopped), came back a few weeks ago in prep for SL and decided to completely change up what I’m used to and roll a ret pally. Boy oh boy, I am having. A. Blast(burst?). I feel great in PvP, viable in PvE, and overall enjoying myself thoroughly.
Then I read the forums. I heard the cries for help and outbursts on how we got nerfed and ret is different and people are saying it sucks. I would’ve had no idea because see for me, I joined in not having the old ret pally to compare it too because, well, I never played pally let alone play BfA at all. I see the sadface when it comes to auras on gcd now (played myself a few times in PvP because of this) but I love the class/spec.
I used to main war since Vanilla days through WotLK and to be honest I feel like my old arms war back in classic more than a new arms war now. Hell, I even rerolled and lvl’d a new war to 50 and got him catch up geared to even compare the two in PvP and PvE - I’m still choosing my main as pally come xpac because it’s fun (don’t get me wrong though, warrior is fun too but faceroll on keyboard ez to play it seems, at least as fury). FoTM is real, I know changes will happen, and I feel confident where I’m at now. It doesn’t seem gimped to me at all.

Ret is fine, just needs more mobility
People complain about every class and spec because everyone wants their mains to be better than the rest.
Check some tier lists from more impartial, better informed sources like skill capped.
