It cannot be only one per lock out.
Pretty sure the quest is called “Only One May Rise” not “The Entire Guild May Rise”
That’s the least of the questline’s load of painful grinds. The bug farm after the head part is easily the single worst
It was unfortunately one of the biggest mistakes with that questline IMO. A questline that requires an entire guild investment and lots of work from everyone that only ends up rewarding a single player feels very bad over time. There should have been guild wide rewards as well as individual rewards for that questline for SoD. They have the technology to do it.
Looking through the lenses of gaming in 2024 - I totally agree with you. Gaming was different back then so I don’t really consider it a mistake for when it was made. I would say more-so that the priest questline they made for the racials was a mistake. Dumping all those resources into that long questline for such a small percentage of the players to actually see when they could’ve worked on things for the masses instead.
I think the quest remaining as it is now is fine. It’s throwing a bread crumb at your “no life” community and all they get in return is an ugly black bug w/ a title - not a big deal.
The title wasnt introduced until burning crusade. And its a big deal because its the single rarest mount in the entire game, even rarer than the spectral tiger.
As someone that started wow in 2005, I do. It’s cool to have that limited factor, but it was so disheartening for some many guilds going into TBC and Wrath later to watch the only remnant of their efforts for their guild leave for other guilds or vanish from the game. It was pretty quickly realized as a bad long term solution. Even if at the time it wasn’t.
I don’t really have a problem with it existing, but I think it’s a huge missed opportunity for this seasonal game mode to really get people interested and doing it. No one I know is bothering with the damn quest at all.
As for the big deal, as someone that saw this TWICE in my WoW career I can tell you 100% that it’s not about the bug mount or title, it’s about the testament to the effort your guild made, the journey, and the connectedness that means. To have the only commemoration of the 40+ people you worked alongside for weeks be given to only single person that could leave, quit, transfer servers, etc feels really upsetting. It’s not about WHAT it rewards, it’s about not validating the work that goes into it.
