I mean, Hollowfall certainly is. All of the people there were soldiers, even those who turned farmers. There’s strict curfews when Beledar darkens. Even the children are the children of soldiers, accustomed to that hard life.
More military like war like clans, i should have specified taht but yeah either way, they had a great moment to make an interesting human faction but we just got light worshiping humans 10.0
Then let’s move on from the Scarlet Crusade too, they’re way more overdone.
Cool that you think that, i was just trying to throw your logic back at you
This is such a good point.
Emphasize the “good” aspects of the Light through the Church. Meanwhile, give us some Alliance villains for a change.
My main issue is, blizz has had the alliance do some pretty shady/outright evil stuff before. They’re just extremely allergic to actually having it stick and it mean anything in the long run.
It always get handwaved away or whitewashed.
Exactly, and it’s high time to break this cycle.
Saying, “You have the Church of the Holy Light to encompass all good aspects of the Light in the Lore,” is a bit disingenuous.
I mean, the Church hasn’t been an active player since… ever? I mean, heck, the Archbishop was revealed to be the head of the Twilight Cult, and after that… nothing. Blizzard couldn’t even be bothered to add a new Archbishop.
If you removed the Church of the Holy Light from the setting right now, would anything change? Like, at all?
Which not to bring back or praise the dark times, it is what made at least the first part of “A Good War” at least half compelling in a vacuum.
“I believe the exiles of Gilneas will never forgive the Horde for driving them away. I believe the living humans of Lordaeron think it is blasphemy that my people still hold their city. I believe the ancient divide between our allies in Silvermoon and their kin in Darnassus is not easily mended.” There was a smile on Sylvanas’s face. It was not a pleasant one. “I believe the Darkspear tribe hasn’t forgotten who drove them from their islands,” she continued. “I believe every orc your age remembers being imprisoned for years in filthy camps, wallowing in despair and surviving on human scraps. I believe every human remembers the tales of the terrible Horde that caused so much destruction in its first invasion, and I believe they blame every orc for that, no matter what your people have done to redeem yourselves. And I remember very well that I and my first Forsaken were once loyal Alliance citizens. We died for that banner, and our reward was to be hunted as vermin. I believe that there will be no permanent peace with the Alliance—not unless we win it on the battlefield on our terms. And believing that, answer this, Saurfang: what use is delaying the inevitable?”
By the spirits, she is cold.
Silence hung between them for a while. When Saurfang spoke, his voice had calmed. “Then we should talk of preparing for the next war, not starting it today.”
“The boy in Stormwind will not start a war tomorrow,” Saurfang said.
Her eyebrows lowered. “With Genn Greymane in his ear? We will see.”
That was a concern, Saurfang had to concede. In the thick of the fighting against the Burning Legion, Greymane had launched a mission to kill Sylvanas. It had gotten some of Stormwind’s few remaining airships destroyed.
There were whispers that Greymane had ordered the attack without Anduin’s permission, but as far as Saurfang knew, Greymane had not been punished. The implications of that were troubling, and every possible explanation led to same conclusion: the old worgen would always drive the Alliance toward war against the Horde.
Thats not to mention the number of things not mentioned above and discussed ad nauseam here. The Stonespire, the switch of Garrosh starting the war in Cata, Theramore/KT incursions into Durotar, even during BFA of capturing Talanji just for talking to the Horde and killing Rastakhan, the list could go on.
This doesnt even mention all the shady internal things the Alliance has done over time.
So like we all know, the opportunities are there its just a matter of making them stick and mean something in the long run.
You misunderstand.
I’m saying the Church of Light should COME BACK to the forefront as a relevant example of default morally “good” Light.
My entire point is that the Church doesn’t get enough spotlight. I think that should change.
I also think it’s high time for Alliance to have some villainous aspects again. Aspects they actually follow through on and don’t whitewash later.
I understand the point being presented here in that the church of the light should be coming back as the forefront.
It’s a genuinely valid statement considering they’ve been the backseat ever since Draenei released (and Tyr to some extent), or have been written to be the exact same foil I am complaining against.
I’ve seen a lot of good ideas tossed around in this thread and it would be cool to see them explained upon and expanded upon.
The church of the light and the church of the sacred flame having a sit down and doing a comparison of theology and a oral history of their own shortcomings would be pretty interesting to see as npc dialogue.
So, I know this is going to sound childish…
But we’re way past the point that should’ve happened.
Were the Church to be active in the story for like, the first time ever, were we to see priests of the Light moving around spreading healing and what not, people would ask, “Well, where were they this entire time?!” It’s a question that only has one answer, and that’s not a lore related one.
Like I said, you could remove the Church of the Holy Light from the setting right now, and not a single thing would change. It’s been that much of a non-entity in the lore. I don’t think it even gets mentioned in the Chronicles beyond, "Oh, and Benedictus was the Archbishop.’
I think its clear the writers just don’t care about it. I’d rather them throw something in they did care about.
Inversely there is no better time to bring them up and make them relevant again.
I can think of dozens of times before now that would have been a better time to bring them up and make them relevant again.
Your boy just lost faith in the light and is regaining it again. And you think now is not a proper time for the church of the light?
Just lost faith? The boy lost faith 4-5 years ago, counting the time skip after Shadowlands. The boy was struggling all throughout BFA, even Legion. Heck, where was the church when we were fighting the SCOURGE?! I can only assume they were holding a party with the Blood Elves, that the Forsaken were fashionably late to.
It’s never Too late to fix anything in a setting such as this. And as far for the people asking Where were they this entire time?. Why worry about those people? Those are the same people who can’t even keep track of the newest lore for the most part, let alone discuss the old lore…
Yes.

Lol nah, burn this dollar store imperium of man to the ground.
Children of the Emperor! Death to his foes!
I mean, if the Arathi emperor was sitting on a skull throne, demanding blood for the blood god and being honorable in combat than it would be WAY cooler.
The Arathi atm are interesting. I’ll save any criticisms of their actual empire when and if we ever see them ingame
