That’s not how social distancing works. Compare how San Francisco County has performed per capita at its very high population density to how states like Idaho, Wyoming, the Dakotas, etc., have performed.

Yep, in the U.S. the top 5 covid hotspot states in cases per 100k residents, 10/28/20 are:

#1 SD
#2 ND
#3 WI
#4 MT
#5 WY

All five are rural states. Yes, WI is mostly rural.

Even democrats admit this is false.

Not the problem of the federal government under federalism…

Looks at the EUs skyrocketing cases yeah OK…

I don’t think anyone doubts that

You’d be surprised. People in the U.S. don’t know much about U.S. geography.

Even if I am not traveling making a Thanksgiving dinner takes loads of prep-time ya know? Turkey takes hours dependent on how you make it, pie takes the day before and heaven forbid someone in my house wants jello for some reason as that is another “a few days ahead” thing. Homemade everything takes quite a bit of time and preparation.

Let’s say it’s not, for the sake of argument, the federal government could still gain widespread cooperation from the states in implementing statewide mask mandates by making it a condition of receiving federal funds. A JAMA article titled “Universal Masking in the United States: The Role of Mandates, Health Education, and the CDC” argues for such an approach.

That’s your opinion which is not supported by how the United States Federal Government has actually operated for well over 100 years.

Look at their daily and total cases per capita compared to ours when the increases began. There was always going to be an increase in cases going into winter for the reason we have more colds and flu in winter. Our performance is still abysmal compared to the vast majority of the civilized world and even some of the less civilized world.

How old are you? That makes a difference.

And kudos to your mom who is apparently at high risk but doesn’t worry about covid. Just be sure there’s a Marine helicopter ready to chopper her to the best hospital in your area when needed and that she rates experimental treatments. No fear!

This thread is some kind of American joke we’re too COVID free to understand.

Bolded the relevant information.

Yes we have used the fed as a national piggy bank for a number of years… Doesn’t mean its true to the idea of federalism. Means we are stupid in our quest to give more and more power to a centralized government which the founders literally tried to avoid at all costs. Even to the point where the first version didn’t work cause the states all made their own currencies and interstate trade rules.

Or they simply prolonged the inevitable. That’s what is happening to a lot of states here atm. Take Oklahoma for example, OK sat at less than 500 cases state wide for months. They never had a first wave… At all. So they are now experiencing the first wave of COVID and yeah its like wildfire. Serval of the major cities have mask mandates btw… Not working. Italy has a mask and lock down mandate and they are getting smashed atm.

Picture it like this: the coronavirus relies on a reservoir of ignorance and dumbness to propagate.

Unfortunately, those reservoirs are endless in the U.S.

Look I get its popular to hate on the US but you are welcome for pretty much most of the technology you enjoy. Including WoW… Ya know the game whose forums you are on right now…

That’s still the federal government using its power to enact a defacto national mask mandate. Argue the semantics of it all you want.

So what you’re saying is, things didn’t work out too well without a central government and some uniform system. The rest is again your opinion, which is kind of irrelevant to the discussion of how things actually work or could work in the framework we have.

And how did they “prolong the inevitable?” If they were able to control the spread while we didn’t, that means there is a technique that worked vs. ours that didn’t. Oklahoma did have a first wave back in July like many other states. Do you not look at actual data when you make these claims?

As for Italy, you’re comparing a country with 977 infections per 100,000 people to the U.S. with 2,655 infections per 100,000. Italy only imposed a mask mandate on October 7th in response to the sharp increase in cases. The sharp increase did not happen in spite of a mandate. New “lockdown” restrictions were only imposed on October 25th.

I couldnt agree more OP. This ensures that everyone should still social distance celebrate holiday in moderation not too many gatherings etc. SL is perfect time for launch. First time seeing a WoW expansion release other than Summer, I started playing Dec 2015. Cheers all.

I’m immunocompromised, I have three auto immune diseases and take immunosuppressant medications. I don’t have the luxury of getting to go where I want, when I want and have a carefree attitude like you seem to have.

People that have the same mindset as you are the same ones that I have to stand near in line at the groceries because they don’t care about the safety of other people around them.

Simply selfishness.

For… a… handful… of… things… Contrast that to what it is today… Just because its over grown now doesn’t mean we should continue feeding the beast… Which, this is all opinion as to what YOU think the government should do.

You cannot… Lock down… Forever… Hiding in a hole is not a viable strategy. Yes they prolonged it from March till June when stuff finally opened up. I am old enough to remember the plan was to “flatten the curve” why and when did that turn into “hide in a hole until we say its OK to come out”?

Yup and their spike is just now getting off the ground. What I keep hearing is “the US is the only place that doesn’t have it under control” and its driving me insane cause no… No one has it handled unless they are hiding in a hole. Which again… Not a viable long term strategy…

And you’ll keep hearing that because a bad COVID day in most any other developed country is better than a good COVID day in the U.S. Take your America beer goggles off and realize that we’re not handling this like we should be or could be. In this case our American exceptionalism is an exceptionally poor handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
