The PvP gear curve is too steep

That’s why WoD or MoP system worked so well. There was still character progression, but it was easy and straightforward, because you literally earned points when PvPing and buying BiS gear slot by slot. It’s when you bring PvE into the mix, it becomes messy.

this is the problem. The game can’t be designed around people who only want to spent a bit of time on content, you guys can’t support the cost of the game.

So no.

says you don’t get to have shortcuts while the other guy didn’t - that isn’t competition that is participation trophies.

Except it was in the past.
The time sink required to be at a semi-viable level out the gate is the steepest it’s ever been. And even a long time ago when gear did matter more, there was a progression curve with the MMR so you were facing low geared players as well at lower ratings.

You used to be able to spend a couple nights in Ashran or BGs and you’d be ready to go. Now? You have to grind M+ for 460+ gear because getting it from arenas is absolute hell for people who actually need the gear, you have to grind your essences, you have to grind your cloak, and you also need to wait for corruption vendors to rotate.
People are playing with 470+ gear with BiS corruptions as low as 1600, and that’s discounting people who tanked their rating to farm echos.

You cannot base end-game PvP around who spends more time gearing or the ladder collapses, and it’s indeed collapsed. There’s no entry level anymore, and the progression curve is gone, causing the lower end of the ladder to collapse even further because there’s no new/low geared/low skilled players left to bolster numbers.

That person I suspect spent most of the expansion playing classic and guess what there is no shortcut to gearing in classic.

Those essences don’t take that long to earn 2-3 weeks in the majority of cases for rank 3s. That isn’t an excessive amount of time for someone who wants to compete at the top end.

It has been immensely difficult for me to get back into WoW pvp because of this. I took a break mid-BfA, which might have been a mistake on my part, and when I came back I felt like I was SO behind.
I was never much of a raider and much prefer pvp in WoW to its raiding. When will Blizzard get this figured out?
I liked it better when gear didn’t matter in pvp.

Or they could put each rank on the vendor

rank 1 - 500 essences

rank 2 1500 essences

rank 3 2500 essences

You have no idea what you’re talking about.

That one is pretty easy. If someone only plays for 2 months, they don’t give blizzard as much reliable income as people who play continuously.

In addition, if everyone only played 2 months of the year, then guilds would fail, raiding would not happen and servers would die.

There needs to be a reason for people to play throughout, that should be encouraged because that is what makes this game healthly, not the people who just play for a few months of an expansion and expect to not have to put in any effort to catch up.

You are delusional if you think this game has been sustained by “hardcore” raiders or people that play every single day.

You just gave someone grief because you “assumed” they were in classic and didn’t “dedicate” time to retail in order to get essences.

Paying a sub has no bearing on whether or not you play and how much time you do.

“Casuals” by sheer volume of customers are in fact, and have always been the target demographic and what sustains the profit of the game.

The people who are complaining about ‘catching up’ are people who haven’t played throughout the entire expansion. Those essences do not take very long to get to rank 3.

People who play for a couple of months of an expansion can’t even be considered casuals and they certainly aren’t the ‘target’ demographic for this game regardless of what you believe.

If they were the target demographic then there would be no time gating of content and no systems which would result in these types of complaints.

No they are not. At all. It’s mostly people who want to play Alts.
And people who want to PvP without having to be forced to the PvE.

It’s not what I believe. It’s how the game has always worked.

The time gating is precisely because they don’t play every day… sigh…

I suggest to blizzard to check the sub histories of these people complaining if they are unsure because most often when people say things like this, it means they haven’t been playing BfA.

When people complaining about alts, they usually state alts in their complaints.

They don’t need to time gate content when people don’t play every day, there is a built in gating progress already…

pvp in bfa is lost shadowlands will be 100% better with pvp vendors and gear you can upgrade through pvp.

Your attitude is really weird. You know what I’ve done all expansion? Roll alts. As a result none are better than 450. I have zero rank 4 essences, a single rank 3 (the easiest one), and my highest cloak is 7. I’ve never completed the war campaign on either side, only ground 4 ARs.

Yet I’ve been subbed the majority of this expansion and have nine 120s. If I’d put all that time into a single character I’d be double mythic++++ but who cares. It’s how I chose to spend my time, rather than pushing I get bored and move on to the next class.

I won’t touch PvP because if I thought I didn’t like failing into gear under the old system, well I certainly am not going to push PvE content (only 460s I get are from warfronts) just to do it. Failing up with resilience looks downright sweet compared to what we have now.

It doesn’t matter if you play an hour a month or 8 hours a day. You still pay 15, you still have the same weight as a customer.

And what does that have to do with things?

The people asking for changes made to the game typically haven’t been paying blizzard anything for months and months.

People like you typically aren’t in a big hurry to get things done in a month so you don’t generally ask for things you haven’t earned.

My fairly unpopular opinion is this.
The following needs to be normalized gear:

  • PvP. Every bit of it.
  • Mythic and Mythic Plus dungeons
  • Mythic Raids

In PvP, level shouldn’t matter, gear shouldn’t matter. It should all be normalized and very controlled. You win 100% based on your skill.

For Mythic Raids, the rewards can be PvE gear, mounts, xmog, pets, etc. The additional bonus of this is after the expansion is over – people can’t come back and trivially farm it. Meaning your hard work is always shown – it can only be earned and you earned it.

For M and M+ – they are for competition. Pushing the extremes of your characters capabilities.

Alternatively, create a “competition” server where everything is normalized. I’d be all about that. Or perhaps a “competition mode” for things where whatever you put in for is normalized and has bonus rewards you can’t get anywhere else.

Those earned achievements will always be a big deal by doing this.

No cheesing. No “I’m not better than you, I simply have better gear”. None of that. If you’re better, you’re better. Simple as that.

so then playing some cookie cutter alt?
no need for pvp vendors or pvp gear if ilvl and gear doesn’t matter.

what point is there in grinding gear if non of it matters?
this isn’t CoD or Overwatch. its an MMORPG. gear progression is part of your character progression.

You are correct. The point of playing is to get better and beat others. If the ONLY reason you do any content is gear then I suppose no one does pet battles or cares about xmog or cares about mounts or toys so I suppose we can remove all of those, right?

You’re right, this is a MMORPG where it’s lost a lot of it’s original intent – what that means is things change, as such the game changes over time.

Ever notice how you don’t need to farm wood and metal to make tools to then begin the process of farming to make your weapon? No? Then the game has changed.

But, like I said, my opinion isn’t popular because most people don’t want skill to matter. They need to cheese to win or they’d never have anything at all.

I also assume you aren’t aware of the PvP tournaments that go on from time to time where things are normalized. I wonder why those people do those… oh right…

I also imagine you aren’t aware that chess exists and chess is different than CoD, Overwatch, etc. You may also not be aware that Starcraft 2 exists and you can’t “out gear” someone else and that’s an RTS! Not even a FPS!

See, I can throw the silliness back at you. You need a stronger argument or it’s trivial to dismiss your statements.

So you’re upset that you spent a week trying to catch up to players who’ve spent months working on their characters? lool

Well considering during WoD you could do exactly that in a queue session or two in PvP, yeah, he has a right to be.
