“no u”
You guys are really bad at this.
If that was only true. As I stated before its the outliers that give a fandom a bad name
Most of the community are artists at heart. They like to create an avatar for themselves and tie an alter ego to it, honestly that shouldn’t be such an alien concept for a WoW player as its not entirely different than any form of roleplay. For a lot of other people its just a community thing and are mostly part of it because of that and mostly wear their suits at conventions. Its the case for my roomate.
And knowing fully well what happens at Furnal Equinoxes, one thing i can say is that they know how to party :p.
But like i said, its just too jarring for your average Karen or bro-dude to ever wrap their head around it.
That’s great, keep it to yourselves though.
Why are you following this thread then?
Because OP failed to keep it to himself. I’m the equalizer.
Just like you keep to yourself your WoW habit from your bro-dude construction co-workers?
Absolutely!
Oh I’m sorry I thought this was america. Isn’t this America, or are we living in a communist country now?
We do what we want good sir! You cannot stop us!
I read this in Randy Marsh’s voice.
How is kink shaming being open minded?
LOL omg this thread
The best part is before they said this they told me to “get a life”
which one is it? XD
I think for me the cringe of furries, otherkins, bronies, etc is the Peter Pan syndrome to me of what are supposed to be adults. I have watched documentaries about furries and bronies they usually strike me as a bit off as in red flag lizard brain something isn’t right off, not just harmless community culture.
I suppose if they dressed in more Halloween serious or scary animal costumes the kiddie cartoon factor wouldn’t be there as much but as stands there is too much Gacy in their look and behavior.
Apologies, was attempting to sidestep directly referencing those who do practice and engage in harmful acts that disrespect or abuse.
There’s open minded, and there’s dangerous indifference. I’m all for flying kink flags (we’ve all got some, I’m sure) but when people or animals are endangered or otherwise exposed to unacceptable scenario (to be vague and encompass many things), it needs to be a problem.
And most people rightly aren’t that problem, but they do exist, and some lines need to be drawn. Again, sorry if I was unclear, but indifference isn’t good 100% of every case
You know I think perhaps the most amusing thing to me about all of this is every post I linked and made is bigger than the last one, getting more replies and flagged/unflagged within the first hour.
Pretty sure you can find documentaries that would give you that exact same feeling from WoW or MMO players in general.
But yeah there’s a decent amount of people on the spectrum for example in that fandom, so yeah a lot of them might look “different” from the outside. Doesn’t mean evil or batcrap insane like John Wayne Gacy lol.
In a lot of cases, there’s also a ton of artists in it. Who often also seem very “different” from the outside. Would David Bowie had been as accepted as he was if he wasn’t such a talented musician? Just an example of someone who also created a persona for himself.
I think the problem has always been the usage of labels or terms to purposefully separate one’s self from others. The entire strangeness on the flipside of human beings surrounding themselves with a personal identity baked into one word. To be honest if the term Furry was never used or made, then the person would simply be one stating the following: “I am a fan of anthropomorphic characters in media and art, I sometimes enjoy making or purchasing mascot/anthro custom costumes and wearing them.”
I suppose where it hit one of those real drama nails was concerning a person’s heavy identification with the ‘fursona’ to the point of behavior deemed anti-social in the sense of societal well being and an individuals own well being. People are usually annoyed when another shoves political, religious, and sexual identity in the face of others whom may not share the same views or beliefs. That was always the problem, unpleasant behavior pared with the constant declaration of ‘I’m different from you all, my identity is unique, look at me!’
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to make a furry community for the alliance side as well. I am thinking moon guard. And then perhaps a battle.net one as well since we’re not going anywhere.
The WoW comparison doesn’t work outside of addiction. When it comes to furries, your entire fandom has concrete history and it’s full of some pretty sick stuff. There is a unified culture of sexual activity and attraction to animals. And it seems a large portion of your community are into some pretty illegal and sick things, that the rest of the community brush off as “frowned upon”.
