But why would there even be an “emerald Dream Zul’Gurub” when the Emerald Dream is supposed to be Azeroth without intelligent life.
Did you even read what I was responding too? I was saying to doesn’t make sense about him dying in that realm.
We get a lot of talk about how, when things die in the Shadowlands, they are dead dead. I’m wondering why that doesn’t apply in some of these cases.
Blizzard: there, it’s not my problem anymore!
They’re not in Ardenweald! Hakkar doesn’t die in Ardenweald! He peaces out and ditches Mueh’zala after being resurrected and goes to Zul Gurub lmao
De Other Side will be brought back when we see again Vol’jin in the storyline.
I can even imagine a patch where we actually see the whole other side.
You’re awfully sure of yourself for a poorly constructed story point.
Here’s what I do know from the quest: Hakkar was clearly in Ardenweald. There is a quest where we literally try to go find his wildseed and find out Mueh’zala stole it. I assume he was resurrected with the other loa we find there, in Ardenweald.
De Other Side is a “pocket” dimension in the Shadowlands (the entrance is in Ardenweald, but God only knows how pocket dimensions work). It clearly says it’s in the Shadowlands. So, if it is “Dream-Zul’Gurub”, then it’s a dream…in a pocket dimension…of the Shadowlands…
There is literally zero to indicate that Hakkar just “peaces out” and magically resurects in Zul’Gurub like all is well. All we know is that Bwonsamdi says he will be back. It’s all very confusing, so give your exclamation points a rest.
It’s literally the map name. It literally says “Zul’Gurub”, same way the Manastorm room is in “Mechagon” and you have to go through “West Sprocket Avenue” to get to their house lmao
No lmao
The map is literally in Zul’Gurub with the green-mist effect and upside down Temples and jungle. It is not Ardenweald, only the Broker room in labeled Ardenweald.
It’s not poorly constructed, yall just aren’t observant lmao
The Emerald Dream is not in the Shadowlands for the love of god lmao
How else would Bwonsamdi know Hakkar would be coming back unless he is personally ensuring his soul is back in a Wildseed in Ardenweald after not dying in Ardenweald as that would destroy his soul lmao
You’re the one that said this:
Why did you call it that if you meant that it is the actual location on Azeroth?
The Emerald Dream is the Life-realm parallel dimension of the planet Azeroth. There is a “real life” Zul’Gurub and a “Dream” Zul’Gurub.
What do you think the Emerald Dream is???
I know what the Emerald Dream is. You said that it was “Dream” Zul’Gurub. Now you are saying it is flesh and blood Zul’Gurub. You’re making no sense.
… the map is literally labeled “Zul’Gurub”.
The instance background has green mist and upside down Temples.
You’re either attempting to troll me or incredibly dense. Either way, not worth my time. L2R
Let’s make this even more fun, since it’s so clear. Here’s Wowpedia’s blurb on it:
https://wow.gamepedia.com/Hakkar_the_Soulflayer
At an unknown point in time, Hakkar passed on to the Shadowlands, where he was sent Ardenweald and came to reside within a wildseed to start his rebirthing process. His wildseed was later stolen by Mueh’zala loyalists led by High Priest Rakazodu, who sought to resurrect him and Dambala to serve in their master’s army. However while Dambala fought and died under Mueh’zala’s banner, Hakkar left Ardenweald for the Emerald Dream.
No longer content with being the loa of blood, Hakkar sought to become the loa of Blood and Death. To that end, within the dream version of Zul’Gurub, he called upon the souls of his Atal’ai Devoted for war. However, Bwonsamdi, who claimed he and Hakkar made a deal in which the former handed over some mojo for Hakkar’s rituals, decided it was time for Hakkar to pay his debts. Thus Hakkar was once more beaten by the mortals of Azeroth. After his defeat, Bwonsamdi remarked Hakkar will return sooner or later.
So, I suppose he did escape to the Emerald Dream version of Zul’Gurub, which would mean he was resurrected in Ardenweald, jumped ship to the Dream, and Bwonsamdi’s pocket dimension in the Shadowlands has a way for you to hop on over and kill him in the Dream?
Yeah, all makes total sense. But the map says “Zul"gurub” so kudos to you for making the lore more clear.
They were actually going to villain-bat him, IIRC, but made him into more of a semi-benevolent trickster-god in response to the public.
It really goes to show they don’t know what it is players enjoy. Like, they completely ignored the fact that Bwonsamdi was more or less our guy as Darkspear Trolls during the pre-Cata reclaiming of the Echo Isles event, and brought that spooky troll voodoo vibe but for the “good team”. He may not have been your friend but he was in your corner 'cause you (as a Darkspear) have done right by him.
We literally know the Other Side and the Dream have access to each other since BFA during the Rastakhan questing lol
Thanks ![]()
I would also say that some of their narrative motivations have some internalized racism tbh but that’s for another thread.
At the risk of drawing out the topic that you said you’d leave for another thread, I don’t think it’s racially motivated, so much as some very boring black-and-white thinking in terms of cosmic morality.
i.e.
Bwonsamdi “Him do spooky magic, him bad.”
vs
Rezan “Him do shiny magic, him good.”
But they’ve gone against the grain with that in the past so I’m not sure why they were going to apply it to ol’ Bwonsamdi.
But only one spoke in Patois and only one spoke in Standard American English
Only one is based on real life Voodoo Lwa, and only one is a Dino-boy invented by Blizzard
I think the accent is more that he more originated from Darkspear trolls’ lore than Zandalari. If Bwon were introduced as a solely Zandalari god I feel it would be a different situation.
I think it’s also derived from trickster = always bad, rather than chaotic but well-intended.
Though it’s not really on topic, this is Rezan’s VA.
https://wow.gamepedia.com/Richard_Pepple
Yeah for sure but even then, all the Zandalari speak with a pseudo West/Central African accented English, different from the Anglo Caribbean accented English of our “normal” Trolls
Rezan speaks just straight up SAE, using neither WAf nor Caribbean accent.
I mean, at this point its like…
Blizzard: Makes a preciously established character humorous and lovable, but gives him a tiny bit of a sinister aura
Wow community: Loves him and wants to see more of him
Blizzard: Shocked
Now if they did villian-bat him, would he just be another ‘I serve the Jailer because I’m evil!1!!’ character, and his ‘boss’ was originally supposed to be the Jailer? Hmmm
