Isn’t it entitled to say “I pay the same fee, I deserve the same reward”?
You do get your own gear/cosmetics from doing more “casual” content, that is why LFR has it’s own unique colour palette for it’s gear opposed to Normal/Heroic/Mythic.
Why should players get Mythic cosmetics from doing LFR?
The Mage Tower challenges were fun when I did them… but why the hell remove them in the first place? They’re fun, the appearances look great (for the most part)… just let people complete them.
… it’s sad when I have to tell people they’re no longer obtainable whenever they kindly ask where they can be found.
It was a solo activity that could be done whenever the Tower was available and that got easier as the expansion went on. Players were almost 100 iLevels higher with BIS Legendaries when the Tower went away compared to when it launched.
To make you get off your behind and rise to the challenge. Trying to normalize everything and make everything available in the game is part of why it stinks right now. When you make everyone the same, you give them nothing to aspire to.
Because the Mage Tower was built for Legions iteration of everyones classes. To ask Blizzard to then tune them for the current class design instead of putting in time to making a new challenge is counterproductive. You had fun? Great! You should be asking for another one.
Not sad for me. I follow up be reassuring them that the next time something like that comes up, they should try even if they think it’ll be a failure because something will eventually click. And when they get their own shiny reward that they can call theirs, it’s something that they get to celebrate and wear proudly moving into the next expansion.
This tabard I’m wearing was from pushing rating in Legion PvP. And because this set is so Alliance themed, it fits perfectly! And now I can have my own personal look because I decided to take on the challenge that was other players in the arena.
There are plenty of other sets that people can get in the game. Kicking and screaming “BUT I WANT THAT ONE” falls on deaf ears with me. If they want it, they can hit up the next challenge Blizzard puts before us.
Taking it away under the grounds of “exclusivity” takes away the very thing people can aspire towards.
I think people around here have to start realizing that quite a few people – quite possibly most people – don’t give a damn about any sort of relative social standing. It’s all about what they can attain THEMSELVES, not what others can attain and where you sit on the ladder.
Constantly comparing yourself to someone else is a fast track to cripplingly low self-esteem, period.
Except you’re missing the point.
People want the appearance you have.
In fact, they usually have no issue about having to EARN it.
… but they can’t anymore. For anyone who’s late to the party, telling them something is unobtainable means they just lost a HUGE motivator for playing the game at all.
Saying they can “get the next one” is meaningless… if anything, it sounds like hollow patronizing that makes them only feel worse.
That makes no sense. Because Blizzard is still putting out challenges. The current one being PvP. They didn’t compete in the seasons that I played in so they don’t get the rewards. That’s how it should work. Otherwise, there’s no point in trying at all.
Has nothing to do with low self-esteem.
Not at all. Again, having their own trophy that they receive gives them value for their playtime. If me having this tabard makes other people lose motivation to even try at all then I have to say that they didn’t have it to begin with. When I saw other players that had cool things like Elite sets it made me get off my behind and start grinding arenas. If me having exclusive items makes them stomp their feet and give up all hope I have one word for what they are.
What if the new challenge mode rewarded the old skin? Would that make it reasonable?
It’s not exclusive then, but still retains it’s original requirement.
I think Jalen’s point is a good one, the Legion Mage Tower artifact skins were balanced around the class design at that time, which is why they were retired in the pre-patch prior to BfA’s actual expansion as the class design had already been modified.
They simply didn’t have BfA’s class designs in mind when it was created. I’m sure there would have any classes that found it substantially harder with todays classes, and others who would have found it substantially easier.
Something which has been around since Vanilla WoW, has been quite easily soloable for several expansions, and most importantly – still obtainable.
Despite it not being useful, not even as a transmog item (the Outlaw Rogue hidden Artifact appearance not withstanding), it’s unique appearance and effects still make it a “special” item. While there have been quite a few contenders, it’s still (possibly) the longest sword in the game; it’s even longer than some of the biggest two-handed swords. The giant tuning fork look is quite unique and distinctive, iconic you could say. For those who have actually tried it out, the proc creates MANY tornados on nearby enemies to completely alter the appearance of battle.
Even though pretty much ANYONE get quite readily… it’s still something special for players to work towards.
Something doesn’t have to be attainable during a limited time to be special.
… if anything, even though I got WAY after it was even relevant, getting Thunderfury was probably more “important” for me than any Mage Tower appearance . Simply because it was what I wanted to get.
I got my Thunderfury.
I couldn’t care what anyone else thinks, I still got it for myself.
If you got when it was relevant, all that means is you got to enjoy it for longer; and that’s just fine by me. I would say the same for anyone who got their Mage Tower appearance after it was relevant if was still available.
If it’s there, people will go and seek it out.
Making it “exclusive” just results in a less-than-pleasant rush to obtain it when it’s relevant, with those who didn’t get it just feeling bad about not getting it if they missed it for ANY reason.
I’m open to that particular possibility, even mentioned the idea a few times myself in other posts & topics.
… though I still think the Mage Tower challenges themselves (even if the reward was shifted somewhere else) should have stayed. They were quite fun on their own and had some interesting backstory to them.
One of the main things with Thunderfury is that while obtainable it is not useable in todays game.
One of Blizzard’s transmog requirements that they have yet to revert is the inability to transmog to traditional legendary pieces.
So whilst yes the item is still available, it doesn’t necessarily hold any bearing on todays content including transmog (otherwise lets face it, every Rogue would be duel wielding them)
I agree that they had good back story and were fun Raelhorn, but I still stand by the fact that they were designed around a class implementation that no longer exists, and that has the potential to hurt the encounters on a mechanical level.
While some would be fine, there would be others with issues, and would it be fair on the classes who’s designs now made the encounters near impossible? or vice-versa?
It wouldn’t hurt them any more than outright deleting them from the game.
In this case, I’m of the opinion that even having the challenge as a shadow of itself is preferable to not having it at all.
That being said, some measures would be necessary to prevent them from becoming “impossible”… though I can’t think of any off-hand which would have that problem. At least not something which couldn’t (eventually) be overcome with gear.
There are several other successful games that whole heartedly disagree with you on that one. It is a game. It becomes a problem when other players feel entitled to get rewards that others put time into getting. I find making pushes and challenging myself fun in a game. Many others do too. Some of them including myself was inspired by seeing others in awesome gear that I knew I wasn’t ready to get.
So instead of kicking and screaming, I started my grind to becoming a better player so I can start getting cool things to. The exclusive sets and weapons that I have are reminders of the hard work that I put in within that expansion and because of that has value to me.
You paying the same sub as me doesn’t give you the right to the same exclusive items I have. You want things like the ones I have? Go get your own.
