The new Guild UI and Permissions...yikes (Part 1)

Meh. He bumps the thread.

But I would point out to him that we ALL like the game or we wouldn’t be here. We would have quit long ago. But because we like the game, we keep trying to point out deficiencies so they can be fixed. I really don’t understand his bizarre thought that highlighting issues = not liking the game. :woman_shrugging:

Finally.

Some truth.

I’m a bit torn about continuing my read-through and highlighting of posts I find interesting and/or relevant. I mean, it’s pretty clear that absolutely no one at Blizzard is reading this anymore, so my efforts seem completely pointless. On the other hand, I’m super-stubborn. (Or, if I want it to sound like a good trait, I could say, “tenacious.”) So here’s a particularly ironic post from way back in August of 2018:

Just to be clear, the above post was written when this debacle had only dragged on for a month. Now it’s been SEVEN months. More than half a year. And Blizzard’s just been ghosting us since the last Blue posted prior to the above quoted post.

People like to blame all sorts of things for WoW’s decline. LFR, Pet Battles, too many elves, whatever. You name it, and someone thinks it’s the worst thing Blizzard ever did to the game. I would postulate that the real reason WoW is slipping away is that Blizzard just doesn’t give a fig about it anymore–and this thread is one of the many glaring instances of their lack of caring.

People who care about this issue = Titanic 3rd class passengers.

Blizzard = White Star Line employees.

You’re drowning us and only care about your 1st class passengers (the executives and their bottom line).

Sure takes a long time for a CM to get info from the Devs…

More than 6 months apparently. I’ve never experienced communication like this before. Must be some sort of new fancy trend.

I’ve had to overhaul my leadership structure for my guild. Again.

I hate having to explain to people on my leadership team that I’m limited in what permissions I can grant them because Blizzard jacked the permissions. The standard guild UI is crap, we have information we don’t need (achieve points - really?) and zero response from Blizzard?

I’m paying $15 a month to be treated this way?

Sorry guys, I know this is unrelated but I have to do it.

I was.

Now I’m not.

Way to get me selling my for-special pixels on the AH Blizz.

I was SO under-motivated.

Great thing is, I’ve paid ahead.

I’ve saved close to $200 real life dollars already!

Oh, poor you Blizz…

You’ve LOST close to $200…

A real shame that…

Um, Druu… if you’re paying for your sub with tokens, I hope you realize Blizz gets $5 more than if you pay with cash. If your post doesn’t mean that you’re buying tokens, then I’m just dumb and not reading well today. Please forgive.

Actually they gained $5 for every month you “paid” for with a Token.

Well, you certainly have caught my attention!
The very last thing I want to do is hand Blizzard more (any) money esp right now. However, unless I am missing a very large puzzle piece here, I’m reasonably sure that Blizz is the one losing out on real money. I am buying said Tokens with in-game gold instead of my usual real life cash.

I have four active accounts.

That’s a somewhat substantial real life savings per month / year (at least for me)

I am not buying tokens with cash to make in-game gold. I am selling my stored up mogs, pets etc…that’ve built up in my storage guilds over the many years I’ve played Wow on the AH to make in-game gold to purchase tokens. That in turn makes my Wow subs “free” to me.

If I am not using any real money to pay Blizzard, how can they get more money out of me?

Isn’t Blizzard the one losing out on actual real life money?

Even though I am burning through a “lot” of in-game gold, it seems completely worth it to me, and so far doing so has saved me a decent sum of real life money I can put toward other things “not Blizzard”

Just in case, and to be absolutely crystal clear: I’ve stopped paying Blizzard using my real life money, and I have paid for all of my subscription(s) time for the next several months using in-game gold.

Am I missing something?

Thanks =)

Really? Hmmm.

I am curious as to what I am missing here.

How does that work?

I haven’t given them any real life money.

My money is still in my bank account since I did not give it to Blizzard.

Something to do with the token being 20 bucks rather than a 15 dollars for a subscription. There’s like…math and stuff I don’t feel like thinking about right now.

Every token for sale on the AH was purchased by a player for $20. When you buy it, you get $15 worth of Blizzard balance that you can apply toward game time or other things in the Blizzard store. Blizzard gets $20. You get game time. Blizzard gets $5 more revenue than if you bought the time yourself. The player who put the token in the AH paid the $5 difference so they could have more in-game gold.

Edit: Remember, the player who put the token in the AH already paid for their subscription. So Blizzard gets their sub money, plus the $20 they paid for your subscription. You’re not paying Blizz any money, but someone else is paying for you–and they’re paying more than you would.

Here’s another “blast from the past” (August 2018) that I find interesting:

Wouldn’t it have been great if they’d “exchanged ideas with us?” Right now I’d settle for them saying, “We’re happy with the guild permissions as they are.” I wouldn’t be at all pleased about it, of course, but at least they would have let us know where they stand. As it is, I feel like they’re playing fiddles while the game burns down around them (and us).

Thank you Brahmina for that very kind, lucid and very valid explanation.

Unfortunately, I never thought of that.

Well that sorta stinks.

Sorta

My intention was to deprive Blizzard of money, yet it seems I have only given them even more than usual much to my irritation.

However, I have learned of the joys of having four Wow accounts worth of extra “play money” available to me for other things.

What to do…?

Stated perfectly.

I wanted to do the same thing. I was already purchasing with tokens, so I switched to a 6 month sub. I don’t recommend it for everyone, because if there’s a chance that you’ll unsub completely, you’re still locking yourself into a sub.

But if you’re in the same position I am where unsubbing isn’t likely to happen, you can decrease the amount of money they get to like $12/month. And in your case, if you unsub on, say, three accounts, you can decrease their revenue down from $60 to $20 (for one sub via tokens) or $12 for a 6 month sub.

You have options. Just need to pick the one that works best for you.
