It does take some practice. The flick has to be quick too. Up vertical as you press SA and then quickly back down to change that upward speed to horizontal speed. There’s a rhythm to it and once you figure it out you’ll rarely press forward surge again. You can do it!

yeah see you know what i mean it just sometimes dosent go off and you can flick your mouse till the thing is black and blue it’s the practice it takes that’s the hard part
There isn’t much to be gained from golding all the races. I do recommend practicing it so that if you do dragon race in the future, you’ll have the tech to not have trouble with the races.
Ima ask cause a guide i saw said to put the bronze portal right under the first ring to help the process and do what your saying as well get that extra boost… in your humble opinion is that worth it? the bronze portal i mean

Personally I don’t think it’s helpful for dragon races. In my experience there is delay between being able to use movement abilities and the teleport. Kinda like a GCD even though I haven’t checked to see if that’s the reasoning. Sometimes it doesn’t go off especially if you’re trying to maintain speed. I forget it’s even an ability and never use it.
the way i’ve been using it is to place it right about under the first ring, then as the timer goes down you teleport over right before race starts, and it places you type of thing just a little better i noticed for outta the gate stuff. that’s basically what the guide said to do to help shave a couple seconds off. People on youtube comments said it was working but idk.

It could be useful if done right it sounds like. Another example of a decent use is placing it where the last ring would be and if there is long enough distance between second to last ring and the final ring it could shave off a second or two. In my opinion it’s still more complicated than learning the skyward ascent gimmick. Especially since not all races will get good use of the teleport, but I didn’t fly a single race that didn’t benefit from the skyward ascent thing.
I might try placing it by the last ring but yeah it’s just a tough race to beat
you are talking about the advanced and reverse races of which i have gold in every single one, kalimdor included
we are talking about the brand new challenge and reverse challenge races which do not have wind tunnels or green orbs which forces you to hold your vigor which is the exact opposite of what makes dragonriding fun

Also i found this weakaura that tracks your speed and how fast your going I am going to leave it here its helping me figure out how to do the accend part (I still suck at it and am strugging but still) If you use weakaruaras this will put a circle on your screen that tells you how fast your going at least

Forgive me for what I’m about to say, but I don’t think you’re doing it correctly.
On topic, none of these races are particularly difficult in my opinion. I’ve had gold in all of them since the second week of dragonflight on advanced. As soon as reverse came out, I did the same. I got gold on all 3 variants of the kalimdor cup races as well.
It’s not that hard.

Without trying to brag, I got gold in my first try for all but 3 of the races and thought they were actually way too easy, since I was often around 5 seconds faster than needed. I’m really surprised people are having so much trouble with them. I had everything at gold after 2 hours and wasn’t doing anything special.
The record times are really fair and if you can’t get gold, you’re simply not using the dragonriding system correctly. You’re probably using boosts as soon as you get them, are not using Skyward Ascent often enough, or not keeping up the momentum. The courses themselves seemed really well designed to me.
The only real issue I found were those stupid green orbs that block your screen with item notifications. Two of the races I lost were actually because I couldn’t see anything anymore.

The flick down thing to make yourself go faster… Not as easy as videos and people say it is… takes practice and knowing EXACTLY! when to do it which not everyone knows and has to learn. I am a perfect example of the flick down is not as easy as it sounds my vigor from over 1000 keeps dropping so yes it is as you said not being used correctly but its also not as easy as people make it out to be as stated above it clearly takes practice. Next thing as you even stated yourself… the items that block your screen can screw your day up very fast as you yourself learned. It isnt as easy as it sounds and not all races are like this specifically this flashfront flyover is a pain in the bootay and it always has been so it makes sense why its a struggle and why its hard for people. Also for someone who didnt come here to brag you sure sounded like it in your post here about telling everyone else how they are doing it wrong… you dont think people know they are doing it wrong and trying to figure out how to do it right? Unhelpful to state your not here to brag and then tell everyone “your just doing it wrong” sounds like bragging to me
