The Mandalorian and Grogu movie has a run time of 2 hours and 12 min.
My screening had 18 min of trailers.
It takes place after Return of the Jedi but before the Sequels. The latter is entirely dismissible.
There are characters from The Clone Wars and Rebels appearing in the movie.
If you know the basic premise of The Mandalorian show, you should be okay watching this. If you want to know how Mando met those characters, then watch the show. Chronologically, it’s season 1, 2, Book of Boba Fett episodes 5-7, season 3, then this movie.
IF you want Spoilers, wrong place bub. Let’s all avoid those until opening weekend is over. In other words, hold off until Tuesday’s maintenance.
My opinion? It’s a fun 7.5/10.
I saw it yesterday and I thought it was fine for what is, however its not doing well at the box office. It needs to make over 400 million dollars to break even and having making 165 million dollars within 4 days is actually terrible for a Star Wars movie. What worse is Disney went overboard with the marketing and probably has to make more than 400 million dollars to makes its money back.

I can agree with hat but they kind of had to. Just to point out that this would be in theaters and not straight to streaming. Heck, even little Jimmy Cameron had to yell at people to go to the theater to see his overbudgeted blue space furry movie, now with a crazy baddie that the internet was totally normal about. Granted, he was a total jerk about it and it was one of the worst ways to respond to the “when will it be on streaming?” question a Director could have given.
I am finding it funny how the last time we saw Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s son, was in the 2008 Clone Wars animated movie, RiP Tom Kane who played Yoda and the Narrator, which “fans” also whined and complained about. Even though the movie itself is a fun time.
It just proves my theory correct that Disney buying the rights only gave the Prequel haters a new target. If Lucas had kept them, they would still complain about the content being released. All because it wasn’t 1:1 to some third tier canon book or comic. Or told a story that wasn’t centered around Han, Luke, or Leia.
The budget is reported to be 165 (Disney does not always release the actual full budget, but using that number we will give them the benefit of the doubt).
Marketing is another easy 100 million (the 30 second super bowl trailer was 8 to 10 million on its own). So conservative based its 256 million total Disney has spent.
Lastly, theaters don’t show movies for free.
So generally a 2.5 multiplier is applied to the budget including marketing to figure out what the relative “break even” point is.
265 x 2.5 = 662.5 million to just hit break even.
Now for context, SOLO, the lowest grossing (adjusted for inflation) SW film out performed Mando and Grogu’s opening 4 day box office not adjusted for inflation.
It doesn’t look good. For me, personally, this is the first SWs movie I am not seeing in theaters.
