The problem with this is it means less players doing it. It means some people will struggle to find a group at all or will wait a long, long time. Especially those who get on after peak hours once everyone else has done their once per account per day thing.
This matters even more when there are other drops people want such as the forever-lovely-rose, the gas-mask, etc.
Look at the Doomwalker from the last anniversary. People were doing it all the time, constantly up until they hotfixed it to be 100% at which point it was almost impossible to find a group for the next 7+ days of the event. For something like that with one drop that was guaranteed it wasn’t as much of an issue. But for something people want to be able to find groups for consistently on their alts to get them those above flavor items (which really should be added as cosmetics usable year round but that’s a separate discussion) as well as to have their first daily chance at it. It can introduce problems for availability and queue time.
There’s a balance between incentivizing everyone to no-life farm it on 50 alts and encouraging everyone to do it just once per day per account.
We have a week to go this year. I’m sure they could do something for the current event if they wanted to. They pushed a fix for the doomhawk, they could for the rocket as well.
Lol whenever I see players get upset over a response or lack of one, all it reminds me is of the following:
“Posting impassionately, they say you don’t care.
Posting nothing, they say you ignore.
Posting with passion, you incite trolls.
Posting fluff, you say nonsense.
Post with what facts you have, they whittle down with rationale.
There is no win.
There is only slow degradation.”
It’s complicated from their side, because we’re a community frustated for their bad desing on the last expansions, the story it’s not the best and when you notice hotfixes for an anniversary mount and then this kind of response, you already have an example to look up, so why they don’t do something for the rest of the event? also it’s a known issue for years.
Actually they changed the minimum lvl from 14 to a new expansion max -10 minimum on patch 7.3.5 and they mention “we’re doing this changes because some players with max level characters have less chances compared to players with multiple low level characters”, actually that change didn’t do things fair, it only changed it to an even worst farm because you need to level up all your alts for each expansion release.
I have pretty much given up on ever seeing this mount,
But - just wanted to say it was refreshing (and a little shocking) to see an actual response from a Dev.
Thank you for responding to us lowly players Chimes!
I have the mount. I was ridiculously lucky to get it at all, as is everyone who has it. The drop rate should be higher, and probably bad luck protection as well. Reaching your goals in a videogame should not be a “nightmare is finally over” situation.
HEY, this is the DUDE who can do it!!! It is the new whatsamahoozit/whatever person taking over for that other one.
That gives me hope!
Why not make it even a 6 percent chance, like the Arathi/Darkshore warfront mounts? 6 percent lets you eventually get them; the only mount I don’t have from them, just doing them with this one character, is the Donkey from Krix (or whatever that kobold is called.)
Basically a person doing it on 3 toons would have a very good chance of getting it at least once during the event (if the rate was changed to 6-7 percent, like those warfront mounts.)
While you are at it, remove “school of hard knocks” from the thing that has prevented me from getting the Violet Drake all these years.
They signed a contract stating the drop rate can never be increased and it’s written in “CALIFORNIA LAW” which by forum standards is ABSOLUTELY PERMANENT AND CAN NEVER BE REVERSED OR CHANGED NEVER NEVER NEVER… it’s more permanent than the Earth and the Sun.
I was able to kill Doomwalker daily on a bunch of alts for the duration of the event. Just had to either join or list a group for the non-peak hours.
This is great to hear! Feel free to steal any and every idea put forth by the players. Bad luck protection, vendor option, boss tokens that can be redeemed after X number of kills, etc…
Really simple solution would be to make it purchasable with the tokens that drop from the event. Add a few activities/dailies you can do throughout Azeroth to get enough during the event to purchase it and make it cost % of X (X being total obtainable amount tokens of a character during the event) so that you can work towards it.
While not a “fix,” and I don’t fully know the complexity of it on the coding side, I know I would at least appreciate the removal of the 10 dungeons per hour thing. That alone would make this event just the slightest bit less tedious and it seems like something that could happen this year still. This minimum takes 4.5 hours.
Crazy what they discover when they play their own game. Definitely looking forward to the improvements to this situation in two or three years. (Am I doing this thing right?)
I never post on the forums, but this topic hits close to home. I’ve been trying for this mount unsuccessfully for years. It eludes poor, Eros, The Love Fool, to this day.
I remember seeing it once and only once with my original guild, The Dark Side - Ner’zhul, more than a decade ago when the dungeon finder was weirdly new, loot boxes didn’t exist, and account-wide mounts were wishful thinking. Of the five of us, one person wasn’t in the guild. The mount dropped and we rolled with each guildy rolling “greed” and yielding their shot at it. Yielding it in hopes that my “need” roll would score Eros his Love Rocket. Well needless to say, the non-guild guy won. I wonder to this day if that person still plays or if the Love Rocket goes unused, unloved, forgotten.
I felt guilty at the time since they gave up a roll for me. They felt bad I didn’t get that cool mount that I’d hyping since whatever version of data mining exposed it then. We all consoled ourselves with “Hey, it’ll drop next year. No biggie.”
More than a decade later, no such luck. It took a couple years, but I realized the introduction of account wide mounts and mulit-alt attempts was also futile. As I get older, I have real-life stuff which out-prioritizes 15 alts a day on at least 1 one-hour dungeon lockout. I get several tries in during the week, but perhaps only Saturday/Sunday can get in the full alt rotation.
Overall, the holiday events are an incredible way to make the world feel alive and engaging, and I encourage the devs to focus more thorough updates like secrets, dungeon alterations, and quest lines to these pieces of content. The Love Rocket is elusive. Other events are currency-grind heavy. Let’s lock the goodies behind more content rather than time and luck.
I agree about adding bad luck protection, similar to how legion legendary bad luck protection worked. I dont like the idea of buying it for a high amount of currency, I think it should remain a rare drop but have a higher chance to drop after every attempt.
Id also put world boss mounts in the same category. Basically it would work like this:
Attempt 1 chance is 1 in 3333
Attempt 1000 chance is 1 in 2333
Basically every attempt reduces the demoniantor by 1 (or be generous and make the chance increase at a higher rate than this). Right now attempting this drop 3333 times only gives you about a 60% chance of looting the mount while people with bad luck can go 10,000+ attempts without getting it (btw same goes for world drop mounts).
By making such a change the chance to get it by attempt 3333 is 100% where the average person would be getting it around attempt 1500 or so rather than around 3000. This would also let players know each failed attempt is helping their chances rather than meaning nothing.
