I was referring to the original, Sam Raimi, WoW movie, which was originally supposed to release in 2009 and then was pushed back to 2011, before ultimately being cancelled. Cataclysm’s leveling revamp was to tie in with the swarms of new players that the movie would have theoretically brought into the game.
Hence why I described the movie as “which never actually happened”.

So now before I would be like crap, sure I’m going to level from 55 to 56, but I dont get my new ability until 58 to yay new level new ability. Wow I feel stronger! And next level I’ll get even stronger!
lol. i don’t think that’s even close to a fair comparison considering how different the games are. I mean it doesn’t even consider the point of a level cap in either game.
A phone game like that would naturally have an extremely high, almost unreachable level cap because getting to the level cap isn’t really the goal of the game and doesn’t really unlock alot of new content like it is in WoW. The devs of that kind of game most likely don’t want the player to ever reach the level cap, thus it’s so high. Not the case for WoW.
In WoW, most people just want to reach level cap, perhaps have a good time doing it, and then start doing what they actually enjoy, the new endgame content only available at max level. So, for most people, the actual level they have to get too doesn’t matter, and in fact they’d prefer it be less ridiculous and if that journey was better paced in terms of what gaining a level rewards you.
Tbh man it sounds like you’re just salty about the state of Guardian druid. Surprising as how even with those things it would be the most boring tank to play in the game. One would think you’d complain about that instead.
But let’s just think abut what you said.
Really? Tanks CAN NOT FUNCTION without an AoE taunt? You must be a pretty crap tank to not be able to tank effectively without relying on an AoE taunt ability to help you. Heck, even pro monk players don’t use their AoE taunt ability frequently because it’s just not necessary.
Yeah, a healer being completely unable to heal more than 1 target is bad and puts that healer at an objective disadvantage in content that only requires 1 healer like dungeons. That’s why they changed that. What’s to complain about here?
Finally, the AoE slow thing. Christ dude, just get someone with an aoe slow in your dungeon group and stop worrying about it. It’s an mmo, cooperation to compensate for your individual weaknesses is a core concept of the dang game genre. It’s kinda a major reason they started prunning abilities from classes in the first place. I get you’re salty, but by just playing the game the way it was meant to be played it wouldn’t be an actual issue.
You’re correct on the “getting a reward every level” thing but they did not actually say you’d get an ABILITY every level. They said you’d unlock something new every level.
The same feeling remains, but that distinction matters.
Either way, the level squish is a healthy change at this point. There is plenty of worthwhile stuff they can give players as a reward for leveling up throughout the course of 60 levels as opposed to 130.
Leveled several characters since classic, through every expansion. I cared for all of two seconds and now? I support it because in the end? It changes nothing. I still did that work, I will have the memories but at the end of the day whether 50 or 150 my character is the same one I leveled before the squish.
There is no disrespect, and to think it is so is kind of silly. Its an over reaction and hyperbolic to think this is a direct attack against every accomplishment you have made in game to date. Especially over a direct quality of life change for all parties involved. If you don’t have alts then this especially doesn’t effect you considering you only spent time on one character.
Do you get as worked up when all the “hard work” you put into that main is destroyed when a new expansion makes all your raid gear null and void as well?
Don’t worry, blizz really wants to cosmetics crowd happy. They devoted a large amount of the con and QA questions to talking about how much work their art team is doing to add cosmetic options.
I’m all for finding solutions but this is not it. You don’t prune and squish only to add 10 more levels and more bloat that you know you’re going to have to prune and squish again in the future. They should do away with levels entirely and expand on gaining power through ability and skill levels or something. Then you’re constantly gaining as you progress.
Then you wouldn’t be playing an MMO in the first place. Sorry pal, that’s not how this show goes. If you want to keep your “progress” in games, you’re better off playing a game that isn’t online in the first place, because it doesn’t revolve around just you. If you genuinely think that the level 1-120 experience is good, then you’re either naive, ignorant, or both. There are so many problems with the current leveling experience, that even having heirlooms doesn’t feel like it helps. I’ve been playing since the beginning, and I think this is single-handedly one of the best decisions Blizzard has made in years. Ever since they pruned the need for Class Trainers, and the new Talent System, leveling has felt more like a chore than an actual experience or achievement. Sorry to burst your bubble, but - leveling hasn’t been meaningful for a long time, and if that’s your reason for quitting? You weren’t going to stay much longer anyway.
My question is: What will happen to our toons that are over level 60 when Shadowlands goes live? Will a 120 become 60 upon login? And those of us who love making alts: It’ll be even faster to burn through content than it already is? That’s my biggest issue. Currently, I feel every 10 levels or so after 60, I am pushed to move on to the next expac, unless if I choose to “freeze” my XP. I prefer the slower leveling in Classic. This just sounds like the speed will be even more overwhelming.
For a veteran player a squish to 60 means nothing, from your end nothing will really change except the level flex will be two digits instead of three, while from a new or even returning players perspective 120 (or 125/130 if we kept going) would have been a intimidating number.
Combine that with us having big reward gaps while leveling it made the flashy ding feel pretty pointless until you got enough of them to grab a talent point or the rare ability here and there, for the most part it was just a disappointment.
Yes, for ONE toon. Some people like to play with Alts too and having leveled several my self I can tell you the long grind gets harder each time So unless they change the boost to be account wide, the 110 boost you like to praise will do little in the long run for those who play with multiple toons.
