You know you only need 90g if your honored with your starting city. 18g for training and 72g for mount.
Lol, that wasn’t a “box”, it was a shipping container
No one, ever, fished up a box with all of that in it
If you get to the 40s and still don’t have a mount, farm wastewater bandits in tanaris. You could also run ZF over and over, which is very close by. This is much more profitable than the scarlet wings, but those are farmable pre 40.
I also found herb/arch at that level to not be a great money maker. Here is how I got my mount by 40:
Stopped buying skills from 35 to 40
Didn’t buy anything off the AH
Sold everything! Even cloth. Don’t DE, vendor it!
Farmed for a few hours at 39, just grinding mobs for trash loot to sell. Any place that doesn’t have a lot of people, quick enough spawns, and drops loot to vendor.
I did this when it was too early for an economy for the AH and so did it by vendoring everything.
Other tips: don’t list items on the AH multiple times unless you can make back the deposit + a profit when it sells. Generally list once and then vendor if it doesn’t sell. When I was farming mine the AH didn’t sell much so it was better for me to just vendor everything rather than lose the deposit, but you may be able to make some gold now.
After 40, rewards for quests and trash from mobs gets much higher in value, so even if you don’t get it by 40 you should have it within a few levels with little effort as long as you keep selling and don’t buy.
This is absolutely not true. You must be another one of those people that thinks if you didn’t personally do it then it’s not possible and therefore cheats. Guess what. People do a lot of things in life you haven’t or are unable to do. Rarely is it from cheating.
I would argue that gear depends on class. Do you as a hunter need gear to grind out mobs or is a mount more beneficial? When you get high enough to quest in places like badlands, you’ll understand the answer is mount. And as a hunter, you’ll be perfectly fine killing with quest items and any dungeon loot you’ll have collected by that point.
From lvl 32-39 I farmed scorpids, bassilisks, vultures, and the occasional satyr in the n.e. part of Descolase. Vendor all greys and whites. Constant killing, tons of mobs, no competition. Had mount money by 39. I am a mage.
Dath, I spend about an hour a day fishing in Steemwheedle Port in Tanaris. Winter Squid, zesty clam meat, raw glossy mightfish and pearls sell really well. Spotted yellowtail sells fairly and you’ll get a lot of rockscale cod that sells like crap that you can use as pet food.
Hunter never needs to buy gear ever evvvver while leveling atleast
I’m one level away from lvl 40 and i already have 120 gold saved up. What i did was just grind and skin everything and vendor everything, only buying the most important skills (i have 4 skills i actually upgrade at all). I have done maybe 10-12 quests on my way to lvl 40. I only use the auction house to upgrade my bags, i have 3 runecloth ones now and my weapon every 6-10 levels.
If you just grind and grind and grind you will have the money to get the mount easily before you even need it. Good thing i grew up playing things like Ragnarok online so i love just mindless grinding everyday.
Play a Warlock.
Whenever I was somewhere quiet that had lots of humanoids I would always set aside some time to do some grinding at that spot. I did pretty well at Dabyrie’s farmstead in Arathi. Close enough to a town to quickly empty my bags when they were full and the mobs don’t do anything annoying that slows you down as youre fighting them.
I spent gold on my toons on the way to 40 and ended up not getting my mount until about 41.5. The spot that put me over the top was the Tauren camps around camp mojache. Seems like they dropped good vendor loot all the time and lots of cloth.
I picked up skinning and vendored EVERYTHING except cloth and cooking materials, which I cooked and then vendored for a higher price. I had 88 gold at level 40 and borrowed the last bit from 2 friends. After level 40 the gold flows like rain and I paid them both back before 42.
At 35 I upgraded everything blue weapon agility armor, killed twice as fast. no money at 35 and have the money for mount just before I hit 41. Hinterlands mob grinding no need for a mount yet at 45.
Play wrong if you wish
I didn’t get my mount until lvl 47. No matter what strategy I used, it didn’t matter. Did skinning to help but as most found out most mats aren’t selling well, so I vendored almost all of it.
I also don’t like living in dungeons until BRD and beyond. I did a few but time invested waiting for groups wasn’t really getting me leveled at a reasonable pace. I may have been able to get a little more gold and marginally better gear doing every dungeon, but after lvl 40 the regular quest started rewarding good gold, and mob drops vendored much better.
That being said, as a hunter, keeping pet happy, ammo stocked, training for both me and pet, trying to stay up to date on food and drink… it just drained a lot. I have Aspect of the Cheetah, so it wasn’t too bad.
Unless one legitimately has access to a solid group that loves living in dungeons, I doubt many will have enough gold for mount at lvl 40 if they are playing straight, no borrows or gold buying.
Don’t feel too bad if you have to wait a few lvls beyond 40.
Neat. Killing twice as fast doesn’t mean you get more money by 41. You did it from grinding. You killed the same amount of mobs as you would have killed until 41. XP and gold per mob isn’t changed based on gear. Time to level is. You probably would have killed the SAME amount of mobs but actually ended up with more gold had you not stupidly spent everything on gear. You probably would have gotten it by 40. Lie all you want, grinding is how you did it.
Now, if you want to argue that buying gear saves time in leveling speed because of kill time, then sure. You still had to farm gold for a mount, and you started with less than you could have. And frankly, as a hunter, unnecessarily so. If your argument is that you have to have blue at-level gear to be an effect grinding machine as a hunter, then you a bad hunter. And considering you aren’t even 60 yet, I’m not totally sure what time you saved?
Anyway, you would have probably been better off not spending all your gold like a dope. The server 1st hunter on my server, and fellow guildie, hit max with a level 30 green bow, and he had a mount at 40. (Don’t ask me why he never upgraded it, its a whole thing, he’s against using guns and just likes bows, so that’s where its at. We teased him a lot for it. He has obviously upgraded it since.) The point is, spending gold on gear is nice for mains to do for alts for ease of leveling. Its not necessary and won’t help you get your first character your mount at 40. Or nearly 41 in your case, since you did it wrong.
^ This guy gets it. You, Vril, do not. Thanks for acting like an elitist and not getting it though. It was really entertaining for me.
You had to have spent money on something to not get it by 47. 47 is crazy. I don’t know what you did, but you spent it somewhere. Also, about the dungeon thing, it is very nice to have a preset group to do them with to save time, but I made more money just grinding mobs than I did in dungeons, even ones pre-made with friends. I know, I know, I’m a mage, blah blah blah. You are a hunter. You can gogogo grind, so don’t give me that BS.
That being said! Donpiano is right when he says don’t fret if you don’t have it by 40. Value from quest rewards and trash from mobs increases after 40, you’ll get it. Don’t beat yourself up over it.
I stealthed around stockades and scarlet monastery pick pocketing and murdering the bosses that didnt come with adds i couldnt handle, also had skinning and herbs which i sold or vendored mostly (AH market was basically at vendor price), avoided buying skills like poisons i never use. Sold cloth I looted from doing the stealth dungeons at the AH and fished for food so I didnt need to buy any whilst levelling. Had enough gold to buy all the skills I never bothered with and a mount at level 40 exactly
