You are so…good at the game.
Your small group of friends do not reflect reality.
The truth of the matter is this topic was only relevent in this dragonflight expansion with its garbage solo shuffle gamemode
The topic of healers not being appealing to a large enough audience is a MMO problem as a whole, not just a Dragonflight problem.
support quite literally is always the least popular role in literally every single competitive video game. Always has been always will be.
Which bring it back to the question I posed in my original post.
Like you said, the role isn’t preferred by a lot of players. To the point where newer games are steering away from having healers.
What can be done to change this?
What can (or should) WoW, specifically, do to counteract this?
Its not exclusively a healer problem.
It is a world of warcraft arena problem altogether. Outdated UI missing a bunch of features that create a major unnecessary learning curve.
Default Ui needs to include bigdebuffs omnibar and an accurate dr tracker and needs to include a baseline spectator/replay viewer so you can always be learning.
Just having these features makes the entire game much easier to access for brand new players.
As for healing, the balance needs to be better. Last patch MW and rsham leagues above every other healer. This patch mw and discs were kings for most of it but the healer balance is alot closer now after the nerfs other than hpal being complete useless garbage. Imagine being a new player trying to get into pvp and you think you are about to enjoy the hpal dream? Yeah jokes on you.
They had their chance to fix and modernize wow combat with the talent rework and them amber hearded the bed. All the did was accelerate power and mobility creep while simultaneously causing severe button bloat… its only going to get worse going forward its a wrap
You’re speaking for the entire community by saying the act of healing in pvp is the issue though.
I really love healing, I’ve mained a healer for like 19 years or something absurd now in WoW.
But I will say that healing when the game reaches 2 shot bursts, cc chains and insane rot over time like boomkins, it is not fun.
I also used to think that SS was fun for the challenge and I think SS S1 was better than S2 right now. It still feels like a punishment towards healers rating and gameplay wise lol.
Disc was op but was fun actually having relevant damage and more directly ending games.
Yeah I’m feeling that too.
Healing now is turning away even longtime healers not just failing to attract new healers.
Id say this goes both ways, anecdotally I normally enjoy healing but the vast majority of healers I run into don’t actually like the role. I’m sure some love healing and some don’t. Weird to say your opinion as concrete fact.
i mean
samesies?
yeah thats my point.

Healing regular 3s is fun

idk man

Your small group of friends do not reflect reality.

yeah thats my point.
I don’t think it was. You are the only one here claiming healer opinions as fact

I don’t think it was.
yeah it was.
And you quoting 2 sentances out of 20 wont change that.
I was just quoting the flow of the conversation to show you with your own quotes in context that you are completely dismissing people saying they aren’t having as much fun healing anymore.
Just because you enjoy healing (I’m sure others still enjoy the role too, I do too for the most part) doesnt mean a lot of people aren’t frustrated. This goes the other way too but you are the one dismissing it.

i don’t think ATV/king is willing to put that kind of level of resources into something that’s likely viewed as a low income mode due to lack of retention in the mode
this is the central tragedy of world of warcraft imo
pvp is an infinite money generation mechanic to add to a game. the ssbm meta is STILL evolving 22 years after its release. but the risk averse bean counters won’t invest in creating a pvp game mode without a dedicated 1 sad sack per 2 happy morons ratio, so we have either a permanent healer shortage or a silent majority of random bg players whose gameplay experience is never ever going to be free of the sabotage of bots and gear hounds

People were not crying about healing pvp in masses until this expansion
it seems like your memory of shadowlands is that nobody posted about healing not being fun. my memory of shadowlands is that people posted constantly about healing not being fun, and your responses that i do remember were variations on “get good”. i suspect you either don’t remember what it’s like to suck at healing or you don’t value the gameplay experiences of people who are unwilling to improve

it seems like your memory of shadowlands is that nobody posted about healing not being fun.
Like the 4-6 posts the entire expansion? Compared to the daily posting about hating healing shuffle in dragonflight?
Yeah and people also spam posted about casters not being fun and bad and melee being oppressive in shadowlands and that gave us resolve trinket and precog! Yay! game is so much fun now because blizzard listened to casuals!

value the gameplay experiences of people who are unwilling to improve
People not willing to improve in a pvp game about improving and winning more should have their experiences valued? what are you even saying?
We can agree alot of people like healing 3s. Alot of people hate healing 3s. Almsot EVERYONE hates healing shuffle.
trash gamemode
i heal pvp, i quit because i cant get the rewards, have ksm etc all healing
Do you have some evidence that healers are quitting in greater number than DDs? Or is it just whinging on the forums?

We get it, you’re a high rated healer and enjoy healing. For that very reason, the issue being discussed has nothing to do with you.
Why did I enjoy healing when I was a 1500 backpedaling holy paladin in mop? It’s because the class design and overall game felt amazing to play from a gameplay perspective. I think if you want more healers just make wow an amazing fun game to play with great class design 4Head. I enjoyed spamming arenas on my arms warrior and hpal. 2s 3s and 5s and I did ALOT of rbgs. Only expansion where I actively queues EVERY SINGLE BRACKET.
and I even queues random battlegrounds for fun! I didn’t care about rewards I played because it was fun!

The question at play here is “How do we make healing role attractive enough and fun enough for some players who are traditinally non healers to *start playing a healer.”
The simple answer to this question is make healers really really easy and really really OP. (Like s3 sland hpriest that had people who never healed before reroll hpriest enjoy healing)
Is this the correct solution? I don’t think so it sounds bad for the game. But yeah this would make healing more popular for sure!
