For racials one need not look farther than their bodyguard abilities in Nazjatar.
So a quick rundown of some that make great sense:
And in the real life wild this usually suggests some kind of night vision.
*And of course fast swimming and underwater breathing.
Gnomest/Evablossom
I mean I always had it in my head that the kelfin were going to be our new allied race anyway. I do not at all mind the Vulpera, but I felt more of a connection to the kelfin as a new playable race.
I think they did a much better job at writting the lore and character development with them which could be why. With vulpera we just kinda helped them as kind of a stereotypical set of damsels in distress. However the kelfin actively helped us and we helped them and helping them level in Nazjatar meant we say their character growth over time. I don’t dislike Vulpera either. I am bias with gilgoblins, but I think both should have joined at the same time and been partners. Cause they are like bread and butter in lore.
The issue with Kelfin as a customization race is without giving them any unique racials, you’d have a race of underwater people with gills that live in the deep sea able to drown. This is a reason I support them more as their own race, as they have different abilities, culture, and personalities compared to Goblins.
Plus, I still worry about customization races not having their own identity and so on, and I’d worry that we’d get a “Goblins now have Kelfin customization options!” announcement, but nothing shown in game that they were officially inducted into the Horde or having any sort of presence in the game. Not to mention they’d be called Goblins instead of Kelfin or Gilblins by NPC’s and such.
If they’re their own race, it also opens the door to more unique customization options and would work out best in the long run, in my opinion. Besides, there is plenty of room on that new character creation screen for new races, so I don’t see why we couldn’t see Kelfin on there…
Gilgoblins that can’t breath in water is almost as bad as eredar that can’t be warlocks.

Yea and I also want to see them actively helping the horde on future missions and stuff like that. If they are just customization that may not happen.
Nah. Kelfin would be way too different.
They’re aquatic for one.
Or give goblins kelfin customizations
The issue I have with comments like these is that lots of the time people suggest things like this because they simply don’t like the race being suggested. I’ve checked your post history and you don’t exactly seem that fond of gilgoblins. Plus I’ve stated a number of times why there are good reasons kelfin should be an allied race. Not a customization.
I’ve added several customization ideas and some of these have some unique geometry that could theoretically work with these race although some of these aren’t explicitly cannon. Over time I will add more.
Love the slit eyes.
One thing I missed. I may try to add this in later. Notice around the neck. turns out those are gills. I thought they were tribal marks. Both male and female gilgoblins have them.
Something like this I suppose.
Those Kelfins are kinda hawt.
And just think. Those models are all using the gilgoblin cata model as a base. I had to go through and add polygons, repaint the textures, fix all kinds of rig issues and then add all that other stuff. Fun project. You mentioning this helps me affirm I must have done a good job.
Oh nice! I didn’t know that they had actual gills on the model.
Yea. Its hard to tell at first. Gotta look closely.
To be fair, it isn’t that much of an issue. Blizzard pulls lore out of hats all the time, and we know that Kelfin are already mutated originally from goblins. A few more mutations would be as simple to explain as “Yep, this group of Kelfin has mutations that are different than this group due to them being in ‘xyz’ part of the ocean previously.”
Yea. Plus there was void elf npcs in game before void elves became a thing. They were rather obscure, but these void elf npcs didn’t have tentacle hair. They just had purple hues. Especially given that the models aren’t updated, I don’t think they are too far fetched. Especially if these are to be on druid form transformations.
Nothing that Gnomest has created above is really that far out. Theres a lot of room to expand on Gilgoblins and the Kelfin alone.
Unshackled for the Horde!
I always figured there was a tremendous amount of potential in them as an allied race that isn’t necessarily explicitly clear from the get go. A lot of people putting down the race don’t quite understand it.
Too many just see them as a goblin skin.
They fail to take into account that their aquatic nature alone makes them immensely different.
During the beginning of Nazjatar, Lorthemar even says that the gilblins of Nazjatar are very different. They are very different yet so similar in how they parallel.
