The kelfin love/allied race discussion thread ✿

Since Blizzard is potentially getting feedback on the forums, I do want to state once again that I feel Kelfin would be best as their own race as opposed to getting the Wildhammer treatment by being a customization option for Goblins.

Aside from them being able to be their own race with their own personality, customization options would be a lot better for them if they got their own race slot. Being slapped onto Goblins makes me feel that they won’t get to be their own race and customization options would be limited. Not to mention that Kelfin could have more class opportunities than Goblins if they were their own race, like Druids as mentioned throughout this megathread.

One of the most important points I feel is that, as a customization race a la Wildhammers, it is likely racials wouldn’t be changed much if at all. In which case I want to stress yet again that the Keflin, a race of underwater beings with gills that live in the deep ocean, should not be able to drown in water. It is a worry of mine if they just were thrown onto Goblins, as well as Kelfin not having a presence of any sort in the future. So as you can see, this is why I would prefer them as their own race as opposed to a customization race.

I’ll of course keep checking on the Unshackled, on Durotar’s shores and in Nazjatar, as we go through patches. I mean, they’re right there on the Horde’s doorstep. May as well let them in! :japanese_goblin::trident:

Some people were comparing this to the high elf situation and I heard someone say that if void elfs got high elf options why not gilgoblin options on gobins? I think this is more extreme though since gilgoblins have unique geometry and the high elf options represented on void elfs represent telgorus rift high elves.

Not really expecting much till next expansion, but its a good idea to keep an eye on it.

Here’s my support for Gilgoblins as our new AR :hugs:

I wonder if I am missing anything. I’ve come up with a number of good options for gilgoblins, but I want to make some more sometime. I am just focusing on other projects right now.

Would be nice to see some different stuff on different marine animals. Like I was having ideas on an gilgoblin paladin. Using bioluminescence. And another clan of eel based goblins that would use electricity as “the light”. I thought it would be cool to roleplay if I ever got into that.

The eel gilgoblins would have like lightning yellow eyes, dark irises. Maybe a longer head like the alien franchise creatures.

This would open up there skin tones to dark blacks, greys, browns, and yellows!

Inspiration from Sparky from lilo and stitch.

The head for the eel goblins would be longer and more sleek allowing for some cool play with hairstyles. And electricity along those long head with the hair could be cool.

If blizzard could make the eel goblins have a sect of underwater paladins that would be cool! As I was thinking of ways goblins could get paladins; If gilgoblins can follow an eel loa or other bioluminscent loa underwater it could open the way for holy electric magic users. Such as Akunda.

Since paladins have a tier set based on lightning magic

The elongated head pieces could look cool if we get a gilgoblin underwater tribe of eel people! Biolumiscence could also be a factor in why they believe in the light. And maybe the loa could have connections to the light realm. As we think Akunda and Rezan have as they have followers that deal holy damage!

The anglerfish hook tail would be a nice option. Especially for any gilgoblin light users such as priests or paladins.

Jellyfish would be a nice alternative as well. Lovely range of colours that pop out! Hope blizzard adds gilgoblins, as it’s one of my favorite disguises. Especially love the neon glow in the dark eyes, and the arm fins would be nice to customize. Would be nice to see some gilgoblins based on the looks of various sharks! Or at least shark teeth.

Kelfin on paladins feels so good with the toy. The colors match the spell effects, I have fun on my zandalari paladin turning kelfin for a bit. Would be nice to someday play that combo Gilgoblin paladin!

Combined with those plain black eyes could look a bit eerie at times, but pretty cool.

Would blizzard do this though? I have yet to see options this extreme, but it would be cool no less.

I personally can’t see them being paladins since I’ve never seen anything that indicates they may be interested in the light. Then again though. Vulpera got warlocks and we never saw anything that indicated they would be warlocks.

Also neat. I didn’t know such a loa existed.

I have a gilgoblin angler variant, but it needs work. I will post more details on it sometime.

Haven’t thought of this. This could make for some interesting options.

I LOVE this idea Terranox!!

Same. Want electric paladins! Akunda sort of does this for Zandalari giving us another holy loa. I think the Kelfin could do a similar take and just give more races different types of light faith. The underwater light worshippers could also get lore on how the light tries to explore the depths, and part of the lore of why kelfin could glow in the dark! The biolumiscence could be tied to a nature/light interaction. I like tying eels into this because you don’t normally think of them as a good thing, so It could be a nice take. I tend to love shaman for the lightning magic : ). Also the frost and lava flinging is nice too.

Which sort of makes me think of coming up with a new school of magic combining holy and nature magic, specifically holylightning - we can call it arc lightning. And it could fit with some zandalari paladins, and kelfin paladins. Seeing as most paladins are holy/fire users. Just a thought. For example tauren would use more holy/fire spells. The lightning paladins would have spells with holy/nature. And it could be a neat few glyphs that change magic types and spells. For paladins/priests.

Now that I think about it. Those ideas could work nicely for zandalari too, but adapted a bit.

Yea I believe so.

These people made a prelate class skin that I would very much enjoy in the game! Although I think they could have added a lightning paladin class skin with Akunda. I love the sunwalker stuff they did! Would love to see what this guy could do with a lightning paladin class skin. I also love how he used the sunwalker stuff for some of the alliance races like kul tiran and dark iron with slight color variances. I wish someone like him was working at blizzard making class skins! As of now it seems that paladins are too human based, and I would love to see this guys class skins for other classes like shamans or druids. Since the botanist angle for justifying druids to many races would be awesome. Kelfin being blessed by Gral right now is enough justification for me for them to be druids.

I don’t think goblins should be able to be paladins personally for a similar reason like monks. Both clash directly with the fantasy of the class.

Monks: Goblins society and personality wise go against everything typically expected in monks. They aren’t patient, often greedy, not close to nature, often very choatic.

Paladins: When I think of goblins I don’t typically think of them as being the righteous, justice touting soliders of the light.

Did you see the class skins for paladins and gnomes? They made them more of a scifi healer like those in overwatch! Using titan technology to heal. In that way I would love to play goblin and mechagnome paladins, in that fantasy. Not necessarily the light, but they can through some different magics to make them work.

I do think goblins can work for monks too. There philosophies wouldn’t be anything different then say goblin priest. Goblins can find ways to make it work. Just remember the pandaren peacefully chilling in Ashran within the goblin mini swamp. I also think mostly the brewmaster fantasy fits them. They would also think its cheaper to train goblins to not depend on weapons so they don’t have to pay security guards with more weapons!

Another angle I thought of is them getting interested in making kung fu films. And them thinking it will make them some serious gold.

Them not matching natures isn’t that bad considering they have malicious monks often portrayed in media. So they do not have to be orthodox monks, like thry aren’t for some other classes like shamans or priests.

Mistweavers with Kaja’cola could also maybe extra potent. Seeing as how monks had this whole campaign for stormbrew. I am sure Kaja’cola can be worked in by goblin monks to leave there mark on monkhood.

Thats not really a paladin. Its more of a tinker. Its the same thing with when people ask for mechagnome druids. What they are really asking for are tinkers that have transformations which seem animal like.

I do think goblins can work for monks too. There philosophies wouldn’t be anything different then say goblin priest.

Priests are able to channel the light regarless of what they believe with the right training and the priest espect of their culture likely came from their time while being exposed to zandalari trolls. The light is also something that you can be more flexible. However monks as the way we know them work in a way that directly conflicts with how goblins think are work. A goblin monk would be pretty much like having a fire elemental be an aqua mage or something like that. However I do think that gilgoblin monks could work since gilgoblins are basically the opposite of land goblins personality wise and societally.

Mistweavers with Kaja’cola could also maybe extra potent.

This sounds more like alchemy.

Yes my point is that maybe class skins could be a way to get some of these comboes within the cannon lore of the game. Not so much following the already present lore in some cases.

For example these class skin ideas would make paladins accessible to kultirans and even gilgoblins! And any Ankoan or Tuskarr we may get in the future. They could change the magics from holy to nature/frost to reflect the change and have basically a water paladin for example instead of a holy paladin.

These classes can maybe use ark lightning Holy/nature-thunder as there class abilities. Or Arcane and holy. Or arcane and nature. The point is it would expand the player experience.

I personally love the troll ones, but I would be interested in a more focused one to Akunda! Since Akunda and Rezan are the more holy based ones.

I personally think that gobln monks fit into the -bodyguard, brewmaster (especially with there alchemy racial association along with brewfest), the paid boxer/ pugilist, breathing fire while drunk (comedy) are enough to justify goblin monks. More so then say vulpera warlocks who barely got any warlock stuff to justify them for example.

I guess its more a matter of terminology. The titan guard, junkblade and mechaknight all just seem like tinker specs rather than class skins.

But you are forgetting all the other reasons I mentioned before why goblins directly clash with what it means to be a monk. I still say a “brewmaster goblin” is really more of a alchemist.

Yea that is the problem they tied monks to Pandaren identity. >.> I don’t see why any new goblin can’t just learn from them in orgrimmar tbh. I think some goblins would be able to do it. As we should’nt judge everyone in a given race to have the same views. Some goblins would be good monks, seeing as we have a goblin visitor at the monk class hall chilling above the restaurant. (I think some goblin npc occasionally is training with the other initiates in there too). Like I said they make more sense then vulpera warlocks… Don’t think we ever saw any vulpera interacting with demons for example.

As we should’nt judge everyone in a given race to have the same views.

I mean. One could headcannon any race to be anything for x reasons. Heck I cosplay as a gnome demon hunter and I’ve been an advocate for opening demon hunters to more races. Truthfully I wouldn’t be disappointed if goblins got either monks or paladins, but I’d sooner hope they be tinkers.

Some goblins would be good monks

Gilgoblins perhaps. I think they are the core answer to goblin monks. Maybe if we ever get playable imps they could be demon hunters.
