These are very cool and actually bring something new so I’m for it.
A lot of the time, people just look at the gilgoblin cata models and think lazy reskin races. I however see the potential in these if they really decide to put some good effort into them. There is an advantage to our cause that the gilgoblin models are cata. It means that there is room for them to improve significantly and their designs aren’t in their final state. If they were, then a lot of these ideas would be a bit more of a stretch. In particular with these two:
These are good examples of how to design the model in such a way that it would be more of its own unique race. However the first one I feel works better as a moonkin form since gilgoblins as far as we known don’t have tails, horns and fingers tips like that. The finger tips look like that because it is supposed to be kind of gecko like. Having the ability to climb in an adept way.
yeah HM, LF, VE are much more a reskin. We already have Light worshipping Draenei for example, it’s not a super different flavor.(not saying they shouldn’t be an AR, mind) An aquatic race is not something we have though.
You’re making me want to rip some models and play around in maya, stop that I have other things to do haha
However the thing I do worry about is that if they make them customization that they would be done very poorly like.
This looks good. Don’t get me wrong. I use it on my goblin regularly. However it is still still pales in comparison to some of those other ideas I have shown in the thread. Imagine if we could get tentacle hair, bioluminesnt tatoos/body details, glow in the dark eyes, fin customization and also those unique kinds of feet they have. Also for reference. I know that gilgoblins do cannonically have feet that look like that cause of this.
You’ll notice the feet here have webbing in the toes.
Gnomest/Evablossom here. That said. If they do end up just being customizaton, another purpose of this thread is to provide good ideas for it. Tbh, I also want to make some good ideas for land goblins. Like I think land goblins could use more tatoos.

Dooo itt.
Gods I want them to be more than some minor reskin.

I second this. It can take some time to learn, but you know what you are doing things can be done fast. Depends on the project obviously.
Gods I want them to be more than some minor reskin.
Many people would have assumed those to be an addition I made, but its interesting. That is a cannon feature of them.
The gills you mentioned earlier.
Thats such a nice touch for them too. webbed feet, the shoulder gills, and the fin ears are amazing things.
People often overlook these things or don’t know when they call them a lazy reskin race. That or they just have hatred for them to begin with. I think the reception to gilgoblins has been mostly positive.
The Gilblins are back?!
You have my support

They never left.
In fact they are in Durotar right now.
Now they just need to make them playable.
Yep! Shores of durotar. They showed up there 8.3. For all we know they may have cannonically joined the horde. Just aren’t playable. I am glad they showed up. This makes it worlds easier to campaign for them as an allied race and shows blizzard has not forgotten about them.
Truer words have never been said.
They should have been playable in 8.3 Perfect time to introduce them. Right as we helped them.
Them showing up is a good sign. Azshara is still out there somewhere and can be a threat to the Unshackled again, so it makes sense to work with and try to join the Horde. They already have a lot to offer to the Horde, and they could always move residence to the seas around Orgrimmar to help with underwater defense and the like.
Though, it is weird that we quickly leave Nazjatar without much of a word from the Unshackled and Ankoan. Moreso frustrating that we don’t see much with the Unshackled, other than them sitting around in Durotar, as unrelated events moving into a new expansion occur, where we’ll likely be spending a few years inside of the Shadowlands. It might be awhile before we see them do anything in the storyline.
Then again, it at least gives them time to get use to being on land. With any luck, we’ll see them again and have them join the Horde.
Many of the unshackled die fighting the naga. Who knows. For all we know we may see kelfin souls in the shadowlands somewhere. I assume they are anima based being like land goblins. So what I am going to do is to do a search on Gilgoblins that have died to the naga in Nazjatar. That said, I highly doubt if they were to be an allied race it would be this expansion. A future one perhaps, but that gives us more time to lobby.
I hope so, I was just in Nazjatar yesterday and I I love their voice lines you get for doing their companion quests
They have good examples of voice lines that would probably work for a playable gilgoblin race.
All right… I have some thoughts.
Their ears.
They’re water dwelling and have fin like ears that are large and wide.
So my thought is this. Sounds travels farther under water. So I bet Gilgoblins can hear remarkably far off things within the ocean. Possibly even communicate over larger distances while beneath the waves.
Might explain how they respond so quickly to downed seafaring vessels. Being able to hear the ships sink from rather far off.
Gilgoblins have their gills around their neck, but I think what they have on their ears serves some other purposes. It could be some kind of adaptive thing we aren’t clear about.
