I would think so the recipe can’t be bought on the AH and only made by an alchemist.
Rng is annoying. Keep at you and you will get it. I lucked out when I did it and got it on my 1st jar. Had no gold back then tho to actually make the damn thing

Thankfully haven’t tried for the drop; bought two of this mount on the AH back in Cata (one for me, one for the wife) for 21K each. Can’t believe the price is so high now.
That’s surprising. The mats alone (the ones that you can’t farm and have to buy) cost nearly 30K alone. That’s why I’m guessing they’re usually so expensive on AH.
I can’t exactly recall the whole skinny on that, but if I remember there was some controversy.
I can’t remember how it turned out, but there was some thought that people were taking advantage of a bug/dupe on some part of it, since as you mention they were being sold “below cost.”
I can’t remember if we ever found out, or what the resolution was; None of the players who bought them at 21 K were punished, of course, or had them removed. I also can’t recall if it was just people dumping them, since they had made so many.
I only remember that I STILL could not afford to buy them at that time, or make them myself

Congratulations! I managed to get mine back in Cata so I know that pain (Got Zin’rokh while it was still good too, so I really question the idea that the Night Elves are in any way ecologically friendly with the sheer amount of trash they left behind.)

Thanks for taking the time to do the research and letting me know! I’m currently in the process of mixing my first Vial (the transmute process is a lengthy one…), and the mats alone cost 30K, plus not to mention the amount of time it’s taking me to farm mats for Truegold. I couldn’t imagine why someone would sell them so cheap. Now I know 
I dont remember. But I gave up and just bought mine for 55k.
At the beginning of WoD, I picked herbs, and mined, as I was leveling.
Took me 5 days to get enough to buy it with just randomly picking herbs
and mining.
Interesting, I had no idea. Never looked into making them since I wasn’t an alchemist, just knew they were a cool mount with utility so picked one up. I’m sure buyers largely had no idea.
I think so. If I recall correctly the pattern is bop.
I already own the drake. I just figured it would be great for selling on AH

Hello my friend, nice to see that you have your recipe.
I have one question, and one only: Do you need to survey at least one site in unldum, to begin the mantid process, or you can just get the necessary archeology level, and start surveying mantid sites??
I’m currently at lvl 600 arch, and cant spawn a single uldum site, and since i dont know you have at least one harvested, i am here!

You trigger uldmum sites by digging up kalimdor sites. When you finish a site, a new one RNGs onto kalimdor. Sometimes it can take several to get 1 just to pop up.

Get some relic box items you rebuild, buy the thing in MoP from the archeology vendor to change all sites in pandaria to mantid for the day, go dig away.
Fastest way.
But RNG is a cruel mistress and I stopped after like a few hours lol

I know the drill, i was just wondering if you have to dig at least one site in uldum, in order to be able to solve one artifact.
The uldum sites are what matter if you omit the mop route that I mentioned.
Which takes a lot longer and more laborious.

I am looking for someone on the earthen ring server who knows how to craft this mount so i can give them the mats I’ve collected, and tip them and get the mount.
I have this friend who went blind (optical stroke, he lost one eye, and only has 10% vision in his remaining eye) and thought he’d never been able to play wow again that i have been walking through quests so I can guide him to where he needs to be to play, and I have been reading the quests to him, so he can enjoy the story of the new expansion. He’s actually gotten to the part, with the help of add-ons and my help, where he’s a decent player, but questing would be MUCH easier for us if I had this mount so I can have him hop on when we need to travel.
Does anyone have the hook up on this server? or know someone?
Strangely I got mine on the very first try a very long time ago…Not rubbing it in just big time RNG. Also got the headless horseman mount on the first run. But I have never seen the mount drop for the rare Eastern Plaguelands (Stratholme) dungeon.
