"From another post:
Before Khadgar there was only the Lich King to deal with but then he showed up and started:
You see that Dark Portal? We must go in.
You see that planet? We must go there.
You can’t see. We must go there. (Shadowlands)
You see that big sword? We are going."
They always have the option of making someone else responsible for that. The big problem here is that between what happened in MoP and then what happened in BFA they ruined the Horde. They ruined a faction to tell a story in a type of game where people are attached to their factions and their characters. And building doesn’t literally mean building. It means make it make sense. The whole Sylvanas turning into Arthas didn’t make sense. The Azerite catapults didn’t make sense. I could go on. It wasn’t even good story to make it worth it. And the pay off… was SL. Where we learn everyone was a robot. Great lore, lol.
Yeah, but aesthetically, they were leagues beyond what the rest of the Horde had to offer. They had human skintones, weren’t rotting, were slender and weren’t hulking in size, hunched, or bestial.
They basically combined human-esque aesthetics and proportions, edge, and an exclusive class. It was a perfect storm to overwhelm the Horde pop-wise, a storm the Horde’s never equalized from.
Elfs have been allied with the Arathi a whole heck of a lot longer than they’ve been in the horde. With the Arathi back in the picture they might as well be an official alliance race. The two groups are sworn to one another.
Silvermoon will be a neutral city by the end of the expansion.
And to me, that just goes to show how petty people were; Narratively it made more sense for them to be in the horde, creatively it made more sense since it gave the horde a race that could logically have paladins and fiscally it reversed the population trends while also opening up asian markets.
If The horde had gotten ogres instead back in TBC while the alliance got elves, I can all but guarantee this game would of died a decade ago.
If they do that, original Silvermoon would not be neutral. They can’t do that because it’s a starting area and quest hub. It’s also a capitol and they haven’t yet given any side free range of a capitol. I think at most they get an instance which will not be the real Silvermoon.
Okay but the Horde has never been about “aesthetics”. You don’t have to be a monster race to fit into the Horde. Had Thrall encountered the High Elves instead of the Tauren and they wanted to join him he wouldn’t have been like “mmm sorry Kael’thas you don’t really uhh, fit the vibe around here? Kinda too pretty for us you know. Sorry Garithos did that to ya but the Horde ain’t for your kind. Maybe if you were a Naga…”
