To laugh at tyrande and spit on all alliance there is our purpose. Every time teldrassil is mentioned we dance and drink.
Yeah, but there’s some giant trees there. Once you get a taste for something…
This was great
And when the War of the Ancients was over, the night elves cast aside that culture. They also exiled those who clung to the old magic that drew Sargeras to their world.
Those exiles became the blood elves. Moreso than the night elves who cast that culture aside, the Sin’dorei are the direct inheritors of those ways. Kael’thas even attempted a much smaller scale version of what Azshara wanted to do with Sargeras (even if the reasoning was different).
You can’t criticize the Night Elves for the Highborne without inviting the fact that the blood elves are their direct ancestors.
Edit - I’m not saying the Blood Elves are evil, demon-serving elves. I’m simply saying they stuck to the same culture that was willing to do so, and they did it in TBC.
I mean, for my part, nothing belongs in Ardenweald. If it were up to me, I’d have aimed that big, red blast that took out the Arbiter straight into the heart of that zone.
Baine is the spirit of the Horde.
I see plenty of trolls and undead in the heart of the forest, blood elves after that then orcs. Very few tauren
Yes, I think I was confused by this entry.
" It was then that the tribe’s mystics first began worshipping the moon goddess, “Elune”, whom they believed slumbered in the Well’s depths during daylight hours"
The damning part of the society wasn’t “magic” itself though, it was the corrupt nature of the society that bred and supported a tyrant that nearly brought the world to an end. The Highborne exile was a choice made out of fear, and ignorance, something the Night elves themselves concede to when they eventually accepted the highborne back into their lands and began learning that very magic themselves.
Correction, the Quel’dorei - but even they heeded the mistakes of their past, and went lengths to keep their magic hidden from prying eyes to avoid a repeat of the events that led to the War of the ancients, which they did pretty effectively.
And Kael’thas’ fall from grace happened on another planet, and the moment his misdeeds came to light his people turned and rallied against him, even his own forces on Outland surrendered their weapons and pledged themselves to A’dal, gathering a joint force that ultimately led to their prince’s demise.
But you know, Azshara still walking around without a care in the world, despite being the reason countless Night elves lost their lives in the War of the Ancients.
You can’t also ignore the fact hat they aren’t the same physical beings who were present during that time, thus not responsible for the decision making of individuals who have long since died. While those very individuals still exist among the Night elves, who themselves accepted those Highborne back into their ranks.
“Magic” itself was not corrupting, it was the culture that bred an individual who abused it that was corrupting. For example…
Queen Azshara was born with golden eyes, which were quite rare in night elves before the Great Sundering. Thus, golden eyes were commonly regarded as a sign of future greatness. Indeed, she was widely considered the most beautiful of night elves and swiftly became the most beloved monarch in night elf history. Strong-willed, manipulative, and incomparably beautiful, Azshara possessed far more magical talent than almost any other night elf. As one of the Highborne and sole heir to the throne, she had long been fascinated with the Well of Eternity.
Azshara’s coronation ceremony lasted days. Each night, the Highborne nobility lavished precious gifts on Azshara to curry her favor, but there was one she cherished more than all the others. A night elf named Lord Xavius presented the queen with a jeweled scepter, etched with delicate magical sigils. He promised Azshara that so long as she kept it close, it would bring her prosperity and great power. Azshara held the scepter aloft, and the jewels shimmered in the light of the moons like brilliant stars. The sight of the queen and her gift was so beautiful that it brought many of the attendant Highborne to tears. One of the first things Azshara did with the scepter was to use its power to enhance her legendary beauty. As the years wore on, the queen seemed to grow younger and more mesmerizing. A brilliant aura enveloped Azshara, enthralling those who looked upon her. The Highborne marveled at this strange phenomenon. A few even took it as a sign of divinity.
Magic did not corrupt Azshara, her position of power within the Night elf society is what corrupted her. She was queen, everyone adored and worshipped her, and this only made her want more power. Magic, was merely the weapon she used to attain it.
But the Winter Queen doesn’t like the Loa of Death hanging out in her forest of rebirth for some reason, that means she’s totally pro-Alliance despite the fact that she’s completely fine with all the other Loa sleeping in her pods.
You’re right. Alliance don’t belong in Maldraxxus, Revendreth, or Bastion. Bastion is arcane, arcane is MINE. You can have ardenweald. We own the rest of the shadowlands.
edit: The reason all of this is really happening though is because all of those conflicts are petty in the face of the threat of the jailor. The conflicts of “reality” are put on hold while the forces of azeroth and the shadowlands deal with the real threat.
You keep saying the Highborne that returned during Cata to rejoin the Night elves are part of Azshara’s group, but that is wrong.
They were a group who was supposed to be keeping records of all the Night elves arcane advancements and acted as a school to teach any Night elves that were gifted enough to possibly join the Highborne some day. They were centered in Feralas not with the rest of the Highborne and Azshara. When the demons invaded they protected their home and all their information as they were supposed to. The only reason they didn’t rejoin right away was the shift away from arcane magic.
Also most Night elves didn’t worship Azshara like a god, they thought she was a powerful arcanist and good leader. Seeing as she had been leading them for thousands of years and they were the most powerful group on the planet for most of that time it was warranted.
Most of the non-Highborne worshiped Elune.
As to the High elves, they were descended from the Lowborn Highborne, (if that makes sense) their group left because they were being used and then killed once they couldn’t open portals anymore. The Highborne that had drank the Azshara koolaid all ended up dead or as naga.
None of the surviving Night elves or High/blood elves are to blame for Azshara summoning the legion. About the only thing the Night elves of today could really be blamed for is not keeping tabs on the rest of the world, as they could have help keep humans from learning arcane magic in the first place which would have kept the orcs from coming and made it way harder for the legion to find us again. Though they were a little busy fighting off C’Thun and his bugs with the bronze dragons and keeping the corruption in the emerald dream from spreading.
Sure we do.
Lights a match
sighs, as he hefts up a jug of gasoline
We gonna have to burn down a whole forest now, or what?
The Burning Legion was actively searching for places with strong arcane magic users because it meant the planet had a high chance of being a titan soul world.
The Legion also traveled thought the great dark beyond from world to world killing or converting the peoples there. They were coming regardless, it was just faster to get someone to summon them.
It’s ironic that a majority of the Horde are natives of Azeroth, and the Alliance are majorly made up of “aliens”, but the Horde don’t belong.
Then again, if we keep going down the same story path time and again, maybe this is accurate. The Horde keep being written as worse than the villains we’ve killed.
Thanks Blizzard…
As for the OP: yeah, not fond of Tyrande again. This is another situation where I wish the faction barrier would just be nuked from orbit so my character can just choose to not be Horde. But the Loa and Bwonsamdi are also a presence there; and Ysera isn’t Alliance only. So I’m happy with the Covenant.
SL zones hold the souls of creatures from every single world and every single timeline in the game’s universe. They’re not Azeroth-centric (the first Night Warrior isn’t even from Azeroth). Thus, they’re not “Alliance zones” or “Horde zones”
Well, destroying things is really all the Horde can do after all.
I don’t remember many on the Horde saying the writing has been top notch. Outside of WotLK, the story has always been highly criticized.
I abandon common sense when playing this game! As far as I’m concerned they can all stay in Torgast. Thrall’s a deserter, Bain like Anduin is a hopeless idealist, Sylvanis like Tyrande have both gone nuts. and Jaina once again finds herself in a prison of woe, agony, and despair! Me, I’m just the schmuck that’s been deemed the errand boy because I can go to and from the maw without loosing my mind.
Though I do have to ask, since SL started we are no longer on Azeroth, so why is there still a line between the horde and alliance? This is what puzzles me.
Ardenweald hosts souls from the entire universe. What makes you think that one faction of one planet has more right to it than another? If anything only non-druids/non-shammys don’t belong there because it’s earth-magic based. It’s designed for souls who worked with nature.
