WoD was one of my favorites. I’m a last patch Cata-baby (most of that patch spent leveling and learning).
MoP and WoD were my absolute favorites! PvP vendors gave everyone equal item level gear, so you were always on level playing feild in terms of gear.
P.S.- MoP HAD THE BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!!! Going to chromie time every single alt through MoP just because of that LOL!

Personally I liked it better than BFA but that wouldn’t take a lot.
I don’t think it was overblown at all. Pruning, cut content, Trashran, selfie patch, idle rpg gameplay, laughable storyline.
Whenever someone tries to defend WoD their stance is basically “well I barely had to play it!”. Allow that sink in for a moment.

If I may assume: I must hypothesize that a large portion of PvP players remained subbed. Those queue times were always popping off lol. Loved those 6-13 second queue times for random battlegrounds like omg lol.

PvP and class design is what made me enjoy that expansion the most. Sure it didn’t have much content, but i would rather have good gameplay than boring content like BFA.

Nah. WoD’s only content patch was a zone cut from launch given to us like a year later.
I disagree. Only because of the sheer amount of content they cut. It could have been a really great expac. BRF is one of the best raids they have ever made.
I want a new garrison experience, but this time in the homeland. Let us build a fortress in our respective kingdoms or something. I want to invest in our homes!
I liked WoD. However at the same time I saw/see the total lost potential it had. Cut content, not much to do at max level, etc. The questing was great. The story was good but they did cut a lot out. Like showing how and why Grom changed his views. The zones and the music were great.
PvP was in a good place. I haven’t really touched PvP since. Ner’zhul went out in a 5 man. Ner’zhul. Went down in a 5 man. What? Kargath was the first boss in Highmaul and they changed it from he being defeated and leaving to him being killed. That’s two warlords who went out way too early. They touched on Orgrim but again due to cut content he just disappears.
I just take it for what it is and enjoy it.
Everything WoD offered was good.
The main problem was how little it offered. A two tier raid expansion with the second tier lasting for like 14 months is never going to be remembered fondly, even if was a great raid.

As someone who is currently playing thru it for the first time on four characters, I disagree.
I went from having a grand adventure, exploring and questing thru the World, to being an administrator, sending others out into the World, creating work orders and then picking up said work orders (who thought that was fun?).
What limited adventuring I was allowed was constant interrupted by the administering thru annoying, immersion-breaking pop-ups and a flashing garrison button.
The final two zones were all sectional missions, no adventuring at all.
Oh, and bonus objectives had no in-game basis, they just popped up in the side window, making them also immersion-breaking. (Was it really too difficult to create an NPC to introduce them? In several instances, there is an NPC right there.)
And this doesn’t even begin to cover the disappointment I felt at not being able to enter and explore Kalibor/Black Temple or Shattrath. Or the lack of customization in the garrison (I don’t pet battle, so why do I have to have a menagurie in my garrison?). Or not even having my own room in my own garrison. Or… well, this list goes on but you get the drift.
There is not one angle I can look at this expansion from and say, hey, it works for this. Because it doesn’t.
And these days:
- developing a garrison costs gold instead of making gold
- It is full of bugs, phasing issues and inconsistent scaling
Over the past couple of months, playing Warlords of Draenor has wrecked the amazing WoW experience I was having so, NO, I don’t think the hate was unwarranted.

It always sucks the most in the current iteration of the game.
WoD hate wasn’t overblown though because the hate for the game wasn’t about the game itself sucking, but the fact that the game felt abandoned after launch because they gave us very little content updates. Yeah, people say all the time “But the content we got was good…” and that’s just a stoned or clubbed to death discussion.
Nah, it sucked. Half our guild left. The classes sucked, PVP was atrocious.

Hey! You changed your mog. I like it.

That and it was the point they started taking out so much QoL stuff too… Garrisons were nice… but nowhere near enough to make up for everything taken out.
Well I think you need to leave for all of Hallow’s End.
hate for WoD wasnt overblown, its just BFA lowered the bar to a new low so now we look back and go, huh wod wasnt so bad.
Thats how bad bfa was.
